Reasons why HxH is the uncrowned king of Shonen Jump:
>1) Author is not biased towards his main characters. >2) Seamlessly weaves in and out out of genres, going from tournaments to mob wars to MMORPGs to the epic rise and fall of an entire civilization to politics and a new era of exploration and colonialism >3) Fights and conflicts are well written. Motion and stances are given extra attention. Psychology, tactics and information warfare are all a big factor. >4) Togashi is willing to delve deeper into his themes, instead of just putting stuff at face value like how One Piece does it with slavery, cannibalism etc. Example the big bad with the incredibly high powerlevel was killed by a cheap NUKE, deconstructing the concept of powerlevels. >5) Female characters can look extremely pretty with a different set of looks. No sameface syndrome unlike Oda. >6) Explores far more types of stories and challenges, making his work both interesting to read and very unpredictable. Biology, history, language, adventure, exploration, culture, video games, ruins, medicine, philosophy, math, toys, nerd hobbies, wildlife preservation, etc etc.
Can all the hunterchads/tards just yamero already? I don't care if this series is high art or onepiece level pulp, I just want to shoot the shit about it with other losers on the internet.

>Seamlessly weaves in and out out of genres, going from tournaments to mob wars to MMORPGs to the epic rise and fall of an entire civilization to politics and a new era of exploration and colonialism
>Establish rules regarding your magic system >Break them twice within a single arc >Start the arc establishing rules for that ability and likening it to Nen >Suddenly the rules don't apply anymore when it comes to healing the MC because Not a plot device-chan likes MC's best friend >Huntertards will defend this and call it deconstruction I don't think Gon-san was an asspull but Nanika 100% was
Yea I don't think it's an asspull, but it definitely shows how the writing favors the mc's. Also >Author is not biased towards his main characters >Main character is able to become a super specialist who has perfect control over all five elements
Logan Cooper
But it shaves years off his lifespan bro it's balanced Though I think authors having a healthy bias in favor of their main characters can be good under certain conditions desu

A lot of shonen do the shave off lifespan trope, but has it ever actually become relevant in any of them? The only one I can think of is death note

is kengan asura a shonen manga?

The Chimeran Ants arc is one of the most boring shonen arcs I've ever read. I get that everyone gets fleshed to fuck and the narrator gets his money's worth (anime) but fuck me, a whole episode where everything is going slow motion while the narrator describes to you how the punch is being thrown and the motivation behind that punch is where I draw the line. What's the author doing anyway, has he resumed it or he ded?
Jonathan Peterson
>a whole episode where everything is going slow motion while the narrator describes to you how the punch is being thrown and the motivation behind that punch is where I draw the line. Literally the best parts of the arc you dumb pleb
Jonathan Sullivan
This. I fucking love how big and epic everything becomes when you see it in slowmo while narrator slowly describes to you what is going on from neutral standpoint
Elijah Nelson
I'm trying to imagine the kind of person that's capable of doing this everyday for the last year or so.
Killua getting over his psychological urge to "run away when he knows he can't win the fight" by literally ripping a needle out of his brain is seen as an easy cop-out given that there was almost no build-up to Killua suffering from this problem in the past.
Gon's overpowered adult form might come across as this considering how out of nowhere Gon reaches the King's power.
Hisoka coming back from the dead after his fight with Chrollo. While it's true that Nen can do a lot of things, the particular method Hisoka used to revive himself (essentially, post-mortem Nen CPR) still required a good deal of artistic license – biology in order to work.
The fact that people eaten by the Chimera Ant Queen get reborn as Chimera Ants and can regain their memories. This seems to only come up when it's convenient for the story, and fans accuse this of another example of “death is cheap” in this series.
For some people, the entire existence of Alluka is viewed as this trope due to Togashi cheapening any real repercussions Gon would have had to suffer from as a result of what happened to him in the Chimera Ant arc. Instead, Gon ends up getting completely healed in the next arc thanks to a newly introduced character.
JANNY ARE YOU OKAY, SO JANNY ARE YOU OKAY, ARE YOU OKAY, JANNY? JANNY ARE YOU OKAY, SO JANNY ARE YOU OKAY, ARE YOU OKAY, JANNY? JANNY ARE YOU OKAY, SO JANNY ARE YOU OKAY, ARE YOU OKAY, JANNY? JANNY ARE YOU OKAY, SO JANNY ARE YOU OKAY, ARE YOU OKAY, JANNY?
JANNY ARE YOU OKAY? WILL YOU TELL US, THAT YOU'RE OKAY? THERE'S A THREAD ON THE FIRST PAGE AND HE DABBED YOU, A HUNTERCHAD, JANNY HE CAME INTO YOUR REPORT CUE LEFT HISOKA, SAYING "FUCK YOU" AND THEN YOU CRIED TO THE MOD TOO YOU WERE DABBED ON IT WAS YOUR DOOM

It's always the same generic pasta that lists stuff randomly and says they are done better than others. You can apply the same format to any series you want, it doesn't say a thing about it. 1/10
Could anyone help spoon-feed me the Japanese scan for this page it's from chapter 300 I'm trying to confirm if Ikalgo says 心中 / lovers suicide when referring to dying. Just watched episode 127 around 16:40 the translation is written as "no, Killua was prepared to die with Gon" but I'm pretty sure I'm hearing him use the phrase 心中 like used before . Help a guy out here.
1. Shonen is a demographic, not a genre. And battle shonen is not really a thing, it's just made up label by brainlet weebs. Toradora has fighting, I guess that's a battle shonen too.
2. Yorknew isn't a thriller and crime happens in literally every arc. Yorknew just has a different setting. One Piece also had mafia shit, that didn't make that part crime thriller. You're using labels you don't even understand. Take away the new setting and it's still shonen characters doing shonen battles. Also, gangs exist in literally every shonen too so it's nothing new.
3. Having gore and weird creatures =/= Horror. Or else you're saying Toriko is also horror.
The fact that you can't explain why those arcs are those genres and resort to just making a pic with labels show that you know nothing. I'm looking forward to your very valid and rational response to this. One that will totally not prove I'm right and you're a brainlet.

Not that user but >1. Shonen is a demographic, not a genre.
Technicaly, yes. But semantics change with time and people accept "battle shonen" term as something DBZ / Naruto / Bleach alike.
>2. Yorknew isn't a thriller and crime happens in literally every arc.
>Thrillers are characterized and defined by the moods they elicit, giving viewers heightened feelings of suspense, excitement, surprise, anticipation and anxiety
There's many moments in Yorknew Arc that can be described that way, pic related for example
Yeah i would like to know too. It always feels borderline seinen
Jaxson Taylor
You clearly don't know what a crime thriller is. Yorkshin and SW are propelled forward by ever raising tension with mini payoffs and misdirections which are reminiscent of a thriller (this is true of most of the series but especially so in Kurapika arcs). Kurapika's abilities also enrich the crime thriller undertones with their emphasis on interrogation, theft, imprisonment, etc.
I agree with this. We would probably have to deal with less hiatus issues if things were cut up.

>HxH Average or below average manga memed by minority shitposters to make it look and sound "cooler and more intellectual" that barely gets releases. I think it's sadder there's a fat man in the basement who thinks he's reached a level higher in his life by writing a 1000 word shitpost or the fact that he thinks reading a comic book will be even remotely helpful to his garbage reality. This applies to all other "muh god tier manga" manga/anime posters as well.
Get a fucking life, honestly. It's not rage inducing but saddening to see you.
Plagarism like Togashi doesn't exist, and he knows full well if he released regularly he would be eating lawsuits because he fully owns his IP. He has no publisher to fall back on to pay the fees so he'd be financially destroyed in an instant.

>the big bad with the incredibly high powerlevel was killed by a cheap NUKE, deconstructing the concept of powerlevels. How is a character getting killed by a powerful weapon a deconstruction of powerlevels?
Merem was the main villain of the main arc. A main character like that getting killed by a nuke is something that has never happened in any other shounen in history.
Angel Wilson
That's subversion, not deconstruction.

No. Killua leaving his mansion after having a father-son talk with Silva is a subversion. Meruem getting killed by a cheap nuke is deconstruction

Not sure if it's really shonen but it's pretty relevant in AoT

It´s not willpower, friendship, life force or magical artifacts that saves humanity. It´s technology, it´s the unbelievable malice and viciousness to use any means possible to stand atop the food chain and defend it´s title of evolution`s finest. It´s technology, with the sole goal of killing everything it touches, originally designed to kill it´s creators, namely humans. HxH as a whole but especially this arc is a deconstruction of shonen.
Pitou & Pouf were responsible for those deaths, Youpi never killed anyone.
Liam Russell
You have no knowledge about shounen history that's why you don't see the obvious deconstruction intended by Togashi during the Chimera Ant arc. It was a critic and text-book deconstruction of the DBZ tropes. Togashi went out of his way to make it obvious by giving Meruem a DBZ design, by including an old pervy and funny man that gets serious and strong when needed(Roshi/Netero) and systematically deconstruct the happy-go-lucky shounen protagonist Goku with the character of Gon. When we read or watch a shounen arc where the villains are fighting the heroes for world dominance, we always see a line that divides the good (heroes) from the bad guys(villains). We are always given a lot of heroic deeds committed by the saviors of humanity, while the villains are always portrayed in a bad light. HxH deconstructed that by showing that humanity can actually be way more evil and malicious than everything else. That humans can turn into real monsters, while the supposed monsters are able to become human. HxH as a whole but especially this arc is a deconstruction of shounen.

>says 5 times the word deconstruction in one post How does he do it
Grayson Watson
Main point of a deconstruction is to call attention to aspects and potential flaws in assumptions that tropes essentially are built on in order to function. Everything is an argument, and every argument is built on assumptions. Therefore, a trope can be seen as a kind of argument, and a deconstruction's job is to take its underlying assumptions and critique them. Meruem / Netero fight is critique of powerlevel concept, just like pic related is critique of famous villain trope
>See pic related Done. Is that supposed to disprove me in any way? >Why would mangakas "shoelick" each other? It's a Japanese thing or a way of paying respects. I see Hiro doing it for Oda (or literally everyone), tons of them doing it for Araki, same with Kishi, etc. It's like praising a coworker for doing well on the job. >The comment is answer to MINORITY SHITPOSTERS. Enter HxH threads. Here we have—sincere excitement! appreciation! "How can this be?" Because the thread rejects the rationalist paradigm completely. Detractors say "lol you'll just get a few chapters of scribbles," embodying (whether right or wrong) the rationalist paradigm, but the thread rejects not only the statement but the rationalist form of the statement, and by its rejection of rationalism finds the only possible escape from irony. Thus the thread can be full of nothing but positive vibes and good energy. The ironic "heat death" of the universe/site/culture has been avoided by "quantum tunneling" out of the rational and into the superrational.
In short, and I am completely sincere in saying this, HxH threads are a prototype of the transformation that needs to occur in order save not only imageboards everywhere, but in all of Western civilization, to escape ironic cancer.
Based. This page is ridiculously good. It is the perfect example of how beautiful paneling can trump complicated and overdrawn work. It has to do with the amount of black used, and the only difference between the two sides is the dragon. This is the calm before the storm.

Very interesting post. The HxH fan just comes off as an incredibly curious person who's extremely interested in the whole world. It's a really admirable outlook imo, and one that I try to follow somewhat (tho not directly because of HxH lol) - for example I've recently found myself incredibly interested in biology & ecology thanks to a course I took in Botany to satisfy some gen-ed requirements & now am pursuing a minor in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology because of how interesting I found it.
Really, one of the many messages at work in HxH, imo, is that the world is an infinitely fascinating place full to the brim with very different people, ideas, and angles - and that to really enjoy yourself to the fullest, you should go out there & explore that world as much as you can. In that respect, people like Kite, Ging, and Netero are fantastic emblems of this theme, that the core of what it means to be a "hunter" is something you can and should strive for irl. Always seeking something new, looking for different perspectives and enriching your own abilities and understanding by challenging yourself. Biology, history, language, adventure, exploration, culture, video games, ruins, medicine, philosophy, math, toys, nerd hobbies, wildlife preservation, etc etc - there's a near infinite amount of things to see and do and you should explore them to the fullest.
basically all hxh threads, though it's pretty based how much they can circlejerk each other.

Daily reminder that the ONLY events that come up when praising the Chimera Ant arc are maybe 5% of the fucking thing
The other 95% is steam-pressed shit and you all fucking know it, which is why you never bring up fucking Rammot or Cheetu when you discuss how Togashi deconstructed your assholes
The payoff is good but the arc is DBS level until the very end
I'd rather have a show that's consistently okay than a show that forces you to tolarate inane fever-dream like shit for 50 episodes
Owen Cook
The panel composition during the CA arc was something that reached perfection and I've never seen something so well crafted in my entire life.

I can't believe you went there >Meruem He designed him like Cell because at the time that was and still is one of DBZ most memorable villains arc and he's a hack >Roshi/Netero nothing alike, Roshi served a completely different purpose in training the main and supporting characters, Netero was brought in as a plot device and power level wank to defeat the main of that arc, Roshi is still around because he's a liked character and despite being way surpassed by all of his student's (yes even yamucha) his worth is still his comedic factor and the fact that even in old age he still has a few things left to teach (DBS Tori handjob moment) >Happy go lucky Wow Gon got mad when kite died even though he's supposed to be happy go luck that and is completely unique than when Krillin died and Goku got mad and got different hair
as said before it's not that HxH has no decons it just that it has way less than you idiots try to bring up and the series is just a decent shounen that's it, it is in now way "intellectual" if you want that go read Seinen which is free from most cliche's and tropes.
Hudson Morales
Normal? You understand that Hunter x Hunter is not just a manga, its not just genre deconstructing, its not just one of the greatest stories ever told. It is proof that man can achieve greatness in all its meanings. The story we have been discussing, months on end, years on end, it is evidence of a true understanding of nuanced and complex themes. A culture within itself.
Ryder Martin
Wrong. Rammot and Cheetu depict how the themes of individualism and human nature began to take shape. It was truly unique to see how some chimera ants were clearly collectivistic in nature (mostly foot soldiers) while others like Colt or Rammot had a consciousness and clear unnatural human desires while at the same time being very different from one another, showcasing their individuality. This whole part of the Chimera Ant arc was a clear representation of the philosophy of desire, and a distillation of individualism vs collectivism.
Cell is a memorable villain? Nobody gives a shit about him, the only relevant villain in DB is Freeza. Cell is a nobody compared to Meruem.
Netero was build around the old pervy martial artist trope and then he was deconstructed by Togashi.
Goku took revenge some some fodder without needing any power up. Krillin's death was nothing to worry about because they knew they could bring him back and Goku never went throught the sages of grief like Gon did. His revange was childish and written by a low IQ author.
You don't even know what that post is saying you subhuman cretin. Hunterchads lack content? I have the greatest story ever made, whenever I want it. You think ill ever get bored or reading it? Of enjoying its many adaptations? Or the discussion I have with my fellow Hunterchads? Youre mad.
This. When I come into a Hunter x Hunter thread there's a lot that crosses my mind. The legacy of the greatest shounen ever written. I mean consider that for a minute. This amazingly well written and extremely complex piece of literature has been going on for several decades now and is still going. Not only that but it is still popular, still gaining new fans and keeping old ones happily around.
Logan Wilson
Only against very VERY particular people and if he fucks it up and mistakes someone for a member of the phantom troupe he kersplodes.

He still can't use nen though. So he's basically dead weight.

You left out the part where this is repeated ad nauseum for 40 episodes without any actual substance or cleverness behind it. The fucking cheetu abomination interjects and spams about 12 episodes by doing fuck all, having no real dialogue or motivations except "HEY WANNA SEE HOW FAST I AM", and is about as much of a complex individual as a greasy asshole
The showcase of individuality is Sonic-level, "CHEETA ANT GO FAST", "LION ANT VERY PROUD", it's fucking bullshit and kindergarden-level
I think there's an actual scene where the Ants get into an argument and Colt outright spells out your entire individuality spiel in 30 seconds, we fucking get it, it doesn't have to take 60 episodes
Freeza is more popular and an Author/fan favorite that doesn't make cell a "nobody" even among the DB fandom on this site and other people ask "Where's Cell" in jest because out of DBZ big four: Vegeta,Freeza,Cell,Buu he is the only one not currently present in the canon.
"deconstructed" you keep using that word, I don't think it means what you think it means
Freeza was not "fodder" and if you didn't speed read/watch you'd know that earths balls only let you revive ONCE and Namek' balls already had their wishes used up, We honestly don't know if he grieved because he was written out of the post namek explosion so Toriyama could use GOOD writing to make it that once the new wishes were made we find out he's alive, at which point he wouldn't need to grieve because he'd know they'd have brought back the others.
Gon trying to kill an innocent girl now that's childish, Gon refusing to accept Kite being dead that's childish, Gon even getting mad over the possibility of Kite being alive in an obvious life or death situation with your enemy is fucking childish.
Ryder Campbell
>CHEETA ANT GO FAST That was his undoing. He was only interested in fighting and having fun. im finally giving in, i want to watch the anime first. should i start with the 1999 adaptation or just go to 2011 adapation. ive heard that 2011 version lost some soul compared to the 1999 version
Official Hunterchad-approved method to experience HxH:
Read the first chapter of the manga. Watch the 2011 anime until the Tournament part of the Hunter Exam. Watch the Tournament in the 1999 anime. Watch the Zoldyck arc, Heaven's Arena and the beginning of Yorkshin in 2011, up until Kurapika shows up. Watch Kurapika's entrance to the Nostrade family in 1999 and continue all the way until Paku's death. Print a copy of the cards from the Hunter wikia and read them while watching Greed Island in 2011. Pick up the manga starting when the Ant Quen shows up until Ponzu dies. Watch the anime from then until the Palace Invasion starts. Read all of the Palace Invasion, except for the Netero battle which you should watch. Pick the manga again after Netero dies and continue until Welfin's confrontation with Meruem. Watch Welfin confront Meruem in the anime and continue until the First Voting in the Election Arc. Then reread the start of the Election Arc (yes, you have to read this part twice to truly get it) all the way until Gotoh's death. Then watch the anime until the end. Pick up the manga and read the Viz Translations starting at 340 for all chapters except for 375 and 388, which are better in MangaStream
>make shitty collage in 5 minutes >name it "speedreader salt compilation" >one piece faggots rename it >post in literally every thread >don't realize the irony

How does one become a true and accomplished Hunterchad ?
Well, I can tell you my experience, if it might help. It was 5 years ago when I was 46. I had read all the philosophy I could get my hands on, but something felt missing, I wasn't getting anymore value from my studies. That is when I decided to go into the mountains with nothing but the full collection of Hunter x Hunter volumes and a laptop with wifi. I sat in one spot and would read the entirety of HxH while BTFOing shonenbabies on Yea Forums in between each volume. On the first day it took me 18 hours and I collapsed from exhaustion, but I persisted. I did this everyday, and two years later I could read all of Hunter x Hunter in under an hour, which just left me more time to BTFO shounenbabies on Yea Forums. When I finally came down from those mountains after 4 fruitful years, I was at long last a Hunterchad.
Holy fucking shit I've completely missed the "do not make me repeat myself" thing. Jesus, how is it possible for one arc to have so much deconstruction and parallels?
Dylan Rodriguez
Chimera Ant Arc so rich of themes, narratives within a narratives. So many parallels, themes enveloping each other in perfect synthesis. Manga peakes as an art form when Togashi wrote CA
Is the "insect arc" any good? I just finished volume 18 and the only good parts were with the Troupe. Greed Island was a drag and the art style is the laziest work I have ever seen in a manga.
Christian Jones
Pariston awakened something dark yet beautiful in my heart. The drive to completely destroy my opponents for fun. Just like Pariston i constantly put more hurdles in front of my goals just to make it more fun, so that the inevitable victory will become infinitely more enjoyable. Just to see those addlepated looks on my enemies' faces after i completely destroyed their world. It is what makes me truly feel like a Hunterchad.
The best thing about Greed island was the dodgeball game for sure, but sadly Genthru wasn't that of an interesting villain. But the chimera ant arc is pure kino. An interesting arc where it's crescendo will hit the highest peak in anime history.
I like the manga and its concepts, it's just that Greed Island was the weakest part for me (like a generic isekai). As for the art style, there are panels he will go full-detail into gore, up to the smallest drop of blood. Then there is hundreds of panels in the same volume that are literally white panels with no background. Just talking heads. This is present in every manga, but HxH is obsessed with this laziness. Compare its artstyle with another shonen, Soul Eater, which is infinitely more pleasing to the eye when scrolling through pages and doesn't have speech bubbles covering half the panel.
David Perez
Gon doesn't reach the king's power Pitou states that Gon's fang could reach the king meaning him may pose a threat not outright match him.
Colt mentions his sister way before it was stated that ant retain their memories.
Illumi has been show to have a control over killua and is shown to use needles. Killua's father was will to let him leave with gon with confident that Killua will choose the assassin lifestyle. Killua has been shown early on to be the cautious one. Killua's head needle is believable.
Ryder Rodriguez
Nah Genthru makes sense for the setting, he's not some grandiose evil god he's just an asshole with game mechanic manipulation as his specialty. The point of GI was to build Ging and the other proHunter's characters and show the hypocrisy of the society the characters live in, not deeply explore those characters.

Literally nothing happens in that episode and that's the best moment from the arc for you faggots? Just go read a book if you want to suck the narrator's dick so hard you absolute melts. Imagine a 20 minute episode that moves the plot forward about 2-3 mins. Don't you have a brain to know what's going on? I like HxH but you dick suckers are too much.
Jayden Jenkins
The narration is one of the strongest point of the anime, carrying a powerful analysis of humanity and several messages: to not group people into categories such as evil or good, friendship and the appreciation of the little things in life. Exposition wise, there is an external narrator at times, which explains in more detail several situations, as well as the characters thoughts and some of the passages spoken by the narrator were so memorable and beautiful (e.g. the humans in the sky line), and the narration served to create the feeling that you are reading some intricate tapestry of prose.

The best shounen arc of all time is the CA arc but everything before that is painfully average shounen shit. Why people go ape shit over HxH is because of something like the recency effect. It was relatively the most recent, and longest, arc of the series the most people attribute the entire series being as good as the CA arc.

Look, the lead up to the invasion is alright. I get the whole setting up every single character's motivation and thought process, but doing that in a middle of a fight or when they're trying to get somewhere (the fucking stairs) just takes so much away from what's currently happening. I already know what they're doing and why they are doing it, I don't need the narrator to pause the episode just to go into more detail. I already understood the character's struggle through what THEY SAY and what THEY SHOW us. I get in the manga Togashi was going through some shit so his art wasn't as good (not even bad desu) but they could have fixed the pacing. The epic moments where 10/10, the build up to the invasion is 10/10, the invasion itself with side characters was just slow and boring to an extent. You can't tell me you enjoyed every single little bit of the arc and think that it has no major flaws whatsoever.
Jesus Christ dude, I'm not that bad. Literally seeing Netero's backstory and the fight build up was what kept me going.
Ryan King
Yorknew and Greed island were both kino, fuck off.
Liam Howard
The CA arc wouldn't have been that good without all the other arcs to foreshadow and build up events and characters. It was the culmination of the two MCs character arc and it started way back in the Hunter Exam.
Charles Carter
You have to understand that HxH 2011 was a weekly show and they broadcasted 10 minutes, then cut to commercials and continued with the other 10 minutes. Then you have to understand that the manga had very little dialogue and it was mostly internal monologues or narration. So there was no other way for the 2011 team to adapt it. Then you have to understand that HxH is targeted to a wide audience, so they have to explain what is happening for brainlets like you who would otherwise miss a lot of stuff and subtle themes.
Lucas Peterson
>Then you have to understand that HxH is targeted to a wide audience, so they have to explain what is happening for brainlets like you who would otherwise miss a lot of stuff and subtle themes. So you clearly didn't read what I wrote you condescending fuck. It's okay I guess, there wasn't a narrator to explain it to you about 3-4 times. All I'm saying is there over-explaining something can deteriorate from the current going ons. Clearly the narration was for you seeing that you can't understand a character's struggle without some dude telling exactly how you should feel or else you would have messed it because you've got the attention span of a toddler. Ever heard of the phrase, show don't tell? Anime is not a book, there's a reason it's called adaptation. I wouldn't have minded the narration if everything kept going at the same pace instead of slowing down to the point where a 20 minute episode is actually a 3 minute episode stretched with the narration making up most of it.
Evan Lewis
Spare me your sarcastic remarks, subhuman brainlet, because I know for a fact that you'd have missed a lot of stuff if it wasn't for the narrator. Give an example where the narrator "deteriorate from the current going ons" or an example of the narration being useless while describing a character's struggle.

believe it or not I'm starting to study genetics because of hxh and because I already know some botanics from last year and the magical medicine from pitou was very interesting.
Also believe it or not I went to chemical engineering because of some minor character from black ops 1. No need to say that this is incredible stupid to do, at least college is free in my country so I don't have a huge debit now.

EVERY FUCKING TIME HxH is the subject the fandom only talk about Chimera Ants. Without that arc HxH would be just another battle shonen. A boring one, btw. So, yeah, CA is 10/10, but HxH is 8/10.
Kurapika is arguably neutral good. He chooses to work within the mafia, obviously not lawful. Pariston is chaotic evil. As Cheadle said: The thing she hates the most about Pariston is that he never says what he actually means and never does what he actually wants. The Bomber blew up people because he wanted to win Greed Island. His motivations were clearly defined. That means he can't be chaotic evil. More like neutral. To be honest I wouldn't even include him here because he was a forgettable antagonist.
Joshua Jenkins
I would argue to Kurapika isn't good, but rather neutral since he doesn't respect the lives of those in the phantom troupe.
gon is probably more lawful neutral than good. there's numerous instances where he does or would do things that are way worse than anything bisky, cheadle, and leorio would do.
Eli James
But he doesn't disregard human life like Razor, Netero or the Zoldycks would. His darkest moment was killing Pitou, someone who definitely deserved it.
Isaiah Myers
chimera ants had only 2 good things: the invasion part and the ending fights. all the rest was a snoozefest

Do you all meet up somewhere and suck each other's dicks while discussing how amazing this piece literature is?
In the middle of watching it now, and it's such a shame that we'll never get a fully realized manga. >Heaven's Gate, The Floor Masters, the Tournament Festival >Rest of the Spiders >People who were "resurrected" by the Ants >apparently tons of mobs and groups like the Phantom Troupe around >Kurapika vs. Chrollo It has such great world building, but I feel like we'll never get there. I want to be wrong.
Wouldn't it be funny if Chrollo got an ability that totally counters Kurapika's chain?
Adam Ward
so how much closer are hisoka and chrollo now on powerlevels with black voice and gallery fake gone? does it even matter with the unknown amount of other abilities kuroro has and his 300 IQ?
Isaiah Gomez
We never actually saw Chrollo fight Hisoka, he just outsmarted him with his 200 IQ strategy. I wonder what kind of abilities he could use to fight Hisoka.

When you stop the "I need excitement every minute i watch a show" mentality. Enjoy the buildup and messages the show is trying to convey. And when shit does starts going down, you will enjoy it even more. Your attitude is the exact reason why youngsters aren't able to read a book anymore. They need the constant flow of dopamine to stay engaged, while a story that only runs on exciting battles and visuals will leave a hollow feeling when it's over. But when you truly follow a story to it's fullest, that's where you start to feel the real satisfaction. A satisfaction that you can't get from a quick wank.
will Yea Forums never tired of trying to shitpost, only to get destroyed by HxH scholars?

You huntertards say it's a blessing from god and it deconstructs everything, but it's boring like any other shonen. I can't bring myself to give a shit about any of the characters, they all look horrible and childish, and it feels like a saturday morning show that I can find on kid channels.
Thanks, you convinced me to finally drop this overrated shit.

I'm talking about the Meruem after the fight with Netero and regaining his memory. He didn't feel like ruling the world anymore and actually wanted to better the world. The guards are just evil because of their nature and pouf specifically tried to steer Meruem back towards evil.

saying "guards are evil", is like saying that tigers are evil
Kayden Campbell
Allignments are all about the perspective of the observer. Sure, Pouf might believe he's doing the GOOD thing, but for us, the observer, we see that he's obviously evil.
Don’t like >5. Hisoka >4. Miluki >3. Weird annoying scout ant from CA >2. Weird spider ant that shot webs >1. That one weird clown at the beginning of the show that got his tag taken from gon while gon was only using a fishing rod. Your list is meh, you outed yourself as a hisokalet.
Oliver Edwards
Was Chrollo vs Hisoka unironically the best fight of the series?
>Actual tension because the lives of 2 beloved characters were on the line >Good length of 6 chapters >Good mix between dialogue and action >Easy to follow, but still allows the reader to theorize on the possible outcome
Yes it was but Hisoka should have stayed dead. I already know how it will end. Hisoka will die again by Chrollo (don’t even need to elaborate because he takes L’s on the daily) and Kurapika will try to kill Chrollo and it’s then revealed that while Kurapika was with Chrollo he somehow managed to steal her chain ability and it’s even stronger and Chrollo binds her up and she gets raped by the PT and is never heard from again. Meanwhile Killua, Gon, and the rest of the gang head to the Dark Continent.
Jordan Gomez
>muh cheat codes Yeah yeah buddy hisotard lost fair and square the only reason he is alive is because Machi saves his sorry ass and she will be killed soon too for aiding and abetting.
Aiden Martinez
I doubt Chrollo will survive this series. He's the physical manifestation of Kurapika's rage and will be dealt with.
It's the greatest fight of any manga this decade. Both from a story telling point of view and from an artistic point of view. An early shot of a severed head being weighed against a bowling ball underlines Togashi’s sense of mythic whimsy, while the minimalist evocation of an angry outburst reduced to splashes of ink demonstrates his strong eye for visual drama. Strange monsters melt through the walls of a ship, while Hisoka’s design shifts dramatically depending on the goals of a panel. And yet, in spite of all this visual eccentricity, there are still plenty of panels demonstrating Togashi’s grasp of the fundamentals. The clear impact of Chrollo landing his first clean hit. The dynamism of Hisoka making a desperate bungee gum escape. The beauty of a page framed as one continuous cycle, a trick he pulls off both through dramatic shading and through the natural curvature of the arena.
top 5: 5. Franklin 4. Bisky 3. Pariston 2. Chrollo 1. Leorio Bottom 5 5. Pokkle 4. Kite's ecology team 3. Prince Tyson 2. Zushi 1. Mule
Noah Thompson
Chrollo will kill her after he kills Hisoka and Illumi and that will be that. Kurapika stands no chance considering she almost lost to Uvo. Only way she has of winning is if Hisoka, Illumi, Kurapika, and prime Netero all jump him at the same time and he’s by himself and gets surprise attacked. Even then I see half of those motherfuckers dying. He just has to many abilities and is hard to read as well as just so much raw power.
Just finished Episode 135 of the anime. Why can't they just be happy? Why couldn't he protect her with all the power he had? Why did she have to die? I need a hug.
Will CA even be half as good if I've been spoiled on almost all important scenes/character deaths?
Jason Reed
Spoilers barely matter in general desu You might know who will die, maybe even how they will die, you might know the ending of the story, but the journey itself matters more than the events you got soiled on It's the same for every series and every media in general, so the answer is yes, it will be as good

HxH is not some "epic plot twist" kitsch where the enjoyment comes from "what happens next". The thematic construction, writing, and composition are what make it special. And those are enjoyed more with every subsequent viewing.

If Togashi was unbiased towards Gon he would have died when Kite did. Instead he had Gon live and show us his “full potential,” so to speak. If Gon won’t achieve that potential then he never had it, so it’s very obvious that by the end of Hunter we will see Gon in that form again. Learn to read.

Ging will be the main character of DC arc and most (if not all) of the cast are adults. It will be pretty jarring if there's an arc after that for Gon/Killua. Togashi should just end it after DC and say that the manga is about hunters and not just Gon/Killua/Kurapika
Berserk was literally never good. It's the original cuckold appeal shonen manga. >b-but it says it's a seinen on wikipedia! Yeah, just like One Punch Man is a "seinen". Both OPM and Berserk are for children and manchildren only. Only grown ups can truly appreciate the greatness of HxH.
That's why you don't like HxH.
Asher Nguyen
I know people will think you're baiting this honestly the truth. Putting the "seinen" seal on your manga doesn't make it automatically good, OPM for example is just shitty battle shonen with the same joke getting abused ad nauseam. It's boring and only appeals to the lowest scum on this earth, meanwhile Togashi's HxH is using this medium to its fullest potential by exploring different angles of experimental storytelling.

The author certainly had absolutely no idea of what he was doing for half of the story. Most of HxH is >wouldn't it be cool to have a video game world in this manga? >Wouldn't it be cool to have mafias with superpowers? >Wouldn't it be cool to have aliens which are basically ants and who are Cell but not exactly?"
I hate HxH because it lacks focus and the few characters that are good are completely underused. It has barely a story to tell, just "cool ideas" that the author found fancy at the time.

I did a 4-year BA in philosophy. Never went in Hunter threads on Yea Forums because I didn't want to spoil myself on the show. A friend of mine convinced me to watch it and during the Chimera arc I kept telling him how much it reminded me of Hegel's theory of consciousness. Lo and behold I come to discuss HxH on Yea Forums and there's a common opinion about Hegel and Western philosophy being relevant to the show. It was funny because someone other than me must have picked up on what I was seeing in it. I'm not saying the show is "on par with" Hegel's writing, just that it's strongly reminiscent of it and possibly inspired by it in some way or other. But yeah there's a lot of philosophical nuance in this story, I wouldn't hesitate to call it a masterpiece in the classical sense of the word.
