If I remember correctly. Red was the universe's overseer. It exists because Red perceives it and writes the story. A lot of shinanigans and battles occur and towards the end Red makes the perfect universe and becomes identity (god). Mao bangs Blue, Purple and green, but then tries to save Red from having to be god and then Hero makes it so he is the one who becomes the identity. Which sums up to being a meta ending with Hero being normal japanese student who wrote the story of the demon king Daimao who remembers everything that happened.

I miss this show.
