What anime/manga has creeped you out the most? Not like jumpscares, but instilled in you a genuine sense of unease, suspense, discomfort, ect.
For me it was Texhnolyze, specifically the last few episodes, but I'm curious what other people's experiences with it are. I also remember watching Digimon when I was very very young and some of the scenes were (to my inexperienced mind) so surreal and strange that I was seriously affected by them.
Really? I thought that was more of a comedy-type manga.

When I tried watching Overlord and SAO, the meta-knowledge that people in this very board enjoy such things filled me with dread, don't know if that counts.

When Asakura shows up at the end of Disappearance of Haruhi.

Moomin and forever Moomin. And any son of mine will say the same for ages to come.
That one episode of Mushishi where a woman constantly gives birth to green slime clone babies of her dead child and she's just in total denial of losing said child.
Person-sized holes in the side chapter of Gyo: The Eerie Wriggling. The fact that these holes only allow you to travel in a single direction, twisting your body. You cannot move, only slide forward. The worst part is that it combines claustrophobia with an exposed back, meaning you'll feel the chilling winds on your back as you slide down into endless darkness.

>What anime/manga has creeped you out the most? Not like jumpscares, but instilled in you a genuine sense of unease, suspense, discomfort, ect. I'd have to go with Lain. Texhnolyze had a fantastic atmosphere but had enough raw humanity (even if a twisted, violent or fatalistic aspect of it) to soften the blow. Angel's Egg often came close too, but its similarity to some of my dreams weirdly gave it a sense of comfort. Lain had none of these, let's say safety belts, for me.
The worst part for me was that not even the protagonist had plot protection - even he was lured in.
Another Junji Ito one that genuinely creeped me out is the one where a girl gets (somehow) sucked down the drain in the last page. It's completely illogical but that makes it worse.

xxxHolic had a nice variety of episodes, some of them were comfy as hell and the other one's I found creepy. Like that one with a hidden room in the mansion and that ova with hands coming from the ground and kidnapping children.
Grisaia something. Towards the end of the first season (?) when the children got stuck in the forest. Never expected it to go so far with.. well everything.
