I don't see how those are gray area.
Medaka Box is career and unrealistic.
Broom Broom is mostly realistic and definitely high school.
One Outs is career and about as realistic as Ippo.

>Broom Broom
I should have just written Bakuon!!. With 2 motor sports anime there, it's not exactly obvious which one I am talking about.

Just discovered Ao Ashi on mangadex and why is it so good?

KnB isn't unrealistic.

They basically go super saiyan when they get IN THE ZONE

what about free!

>he hasn't seen actual players get into the zone
youtube.com/watch?v=M-8FksMVAdU

Have only seen the first episode once when it first aired

But KnB is a battleshonen

Eyeshield 21 is my favorite sports manga.

>fucking midget teleporting around a volleyball court
>realistic

Ironically everything in unrealistic/super sports actually extensively references real techniques, not to say they are actually realistic themselves. Just that their overblown/overexaggerated portrayal of sports are based in real techniqurs

Read or watch Haikyuu?

Attached: laugh.jpg (620x775, 257K)

Major will always be my favorite. Such a comfy ride.

diamond no ace is in my top 3 best sports manga

Me in elementary school

Read bear's manga.

Attached: D4jhB-tU8AA05GD.jpg (1000x1200, 111K)

How is that ironic?
Superman is literally based on real humans. Originally he could not fly because his powers were literally "anything a normal human could do, but super". That doesn't even IMPLY that he's realistic.
There is no correlation between "based on something real" and "realistic".

The best sports anime

Attached: 5253231.jpg (640x902, 152K)

that "chart" is shit, and i doubt haikyuu is realistic.

Attached: sports.jpg (3184x2180, 1.79M)

Anime is good enough that u can get away with watching then reading from where it left off.

Mostly, I really recommend reading though

"Cute girls playing cute sports" is my favorite subgenre. We need more of those, of all kinds of sports.

Attached: alotofballs.png (1280x720, 896K)

My favorite sports manga (and one of my favorite manga overall) is Slam Dunk, and I don't even like basketball. I used to really like Ippo, but it just got kind of bad over time. Ace of Diamond is also super cool, but I have yet to read/watch after the third years retire. I've been really getting into Haikyuu recently, thou. Just started the Spring Interhigh arc and I think it's fantastic.

Are there any good, realistic football/soccer manga (or even anime)? Only weeb media related to that sport I've watched is Inazuma Eleven and aome random episodes of stuff that aired on TV. I actually used to like Inazuma Eleven back in the day, but I couldn't really get into Ares.

Ippo is more realistic than gay volleyball. Well at least it was.

Ro-kyu-bu wouldn't fit anywhere so this chart is bad.

Too many special moves and too much reliance on knockouts

Will eyeshield 21 teach me about American football or do I need to know the rules

I love Ashita no Joe a lot, but the stuff with Harimau was ridiculous as hell, not saying it makes the show unrealistic or bad, though. I know it was something to try to get the “wild joe” back, but it just ended up worsening his punch drunk syndrome, it went too over the top.

Where do shit like AoKana and Two Car fall into?

whats top left?

there was also how countering a counter further multiplied the damage so that in one fight (I can't remember which) so in the end when they both countered each other it was said they did 6 times the damage or something

Physical sports anime are just bad.
Mental sports is where it is at. Pic related.

Baby steps is one of the best sports series out there

easily the best sports anime

Attached: 1534920780285.jpg (1920x1080, 293K)

I don't remember the rules ever been stated but it's been so long since i've read it. I think Hiruma just tells Sena to run and he does. It's not that hard anyway.

The ending of the manga is so shit though

Didn't it get axed?

What other series get to the levels of The New Prince of Tennis? The first one was unrealistic but the follow-up is on another level.

It's realistic compared to shit like KnB or Prince of Tennis.

High school realistic, but it focuses more on the personal drama than the sports as the show goes on so, who cares. S1 was ok, at least, and the animation is of course very good.

Legend of Koizumi easily surpasses it.

>i doubt haikyuu is realistic.
It is, and it's also based around the author's experiences as a high school volleyball player.

>The New Prince of Tennis
I keep forgetting that's a thing. The pacing is so fucking slow for a monthly manga

Attached: 87afb5d3.jpg (1600x1200, 660K)

It's as much about swimming as K-On is about music.

Yawara!

What are your thoughts on Furudate's art style?

Attached: p.png (1775x1300, 1.09M)

Medaka is a sports anime? the fuck? It's a shonen battle anime.

it's ugly as sin. I can't read Haikyuu

Yes, it jended in the middle of a tournament and Maruo never archived anything.

wrong tag

I don't understand the redirect.

>"dude it gets good after 20 episodes trust me"
>it actually does
Once the Interhigh started I couldn't put it down. A shame is not more popular overseas but it seems to do great in japan so whatever.

Attached: 51de29dc8c54af9bac47cb0fa741bd8c.jpg (500x694, 332K)

It's amazing. Expressions, in particular, are great.

haikyuu is cliched garbage

That subgenre gave us the best sports series ever so it'd be nice to have more of them.

Attached: ace.gif (500x279, 809K)

You can admit you dislike it only because it's popular, user.

Attached: happy gendum.png (531x502, 434K)

I love Ashita no Joe but come on, it’s not realistic in a boxing sense. Rikishi downs a bull with one punch, and Joe fights a savage monkey man that was raised in the jungle and fights by doing acrobatics off the ropes.

I don't know about anime, but these are my favorite sports manga.

Attached: sportsmanga.jpg (2930x1082, 1.27M)

It was really hard for me when I made the jump from the anime to the manga, but I've gotten used to it and actually really like it now.

Yeah that was weird too. Still a great story though.

S1 is definitely about swimming. There's an entire episode dedicated to teaching Rei all about swimming butterfly and the competition tension is an important part of the whole season. Yes, it's also about the Rin drama and water autism and muscle fanservice but you can't just say it isn't about swimming.

I don't even remember S2 or the movie so I couldn't tell you about those. They're probably about the drama.

Ahahaha this is so true, the Inter High was great and the first race started the competition in the best way possible, but I think the series started to get interesting earlier on, when Manami got introduced. It's a shame the 2nd year is garbage :(

youtube.com/watch?v=HotdsZgjpSI
I really need to catch up.

How's the manga? It's over 400 chapters long, is it still keeping it's pace?

What’s the one on the far left? Looks interesting.

GaruPan is an unrealistic sport, rather than superhero players
Giant Killing is realistic, but follows a former professional now a manager

Attached: GIANT KILLING - 25 - Large 27.jpg (1280x720, 115K)

The next chapter will most likely be the end of the 2nd Inter High. Also, I think the anime is way better, especially for the first two seasons, since almost nothing gets left out.

Finish S2 and continue with the manga, got it, thanks user.

K-On is also definitely about music.

Not really? The team is pretty much carried on solo running plays and the occasional obvious passing play, they pretty much never use actual playbook plays except when they're trotted out as a "secret move" the team has trained for, foul play is nonexistent and there's an actual arc involving a team who is carried by having a monster of a player deliberately injuring the opposing quarterback to the point where their future as an athlete is possibly ruined while the team in question sees absolutely no repercussions and everyone just solemnly looks on going "hurr amerifuto is an impact sport this is the reality of the game", the most I can really credit it for is a few games make playing the clock a big deal which is what settles like 70% of the professional american football games.

But it's a great series, most of the stuff it gets wrong it gets wrong for dramatic effect.

Don't use emoticons on Yea Forums.

Summit of the Gods

Yep, the change in art in the third season almost made me drop it, I dunno about the current state of english translations though, they might still be on the 2nd day

Why?

or what :)

Attached: sachiko 2.jpg (500x432, 35K)

It is one of the few rules remaining from Yea Forums's elitist phase of the post-07 explosion.
There are a variety of other reasons, like the fact that they are ugly, or that they are associated with certain demographics, but mostly it is really about this connection to the past.

Read it, I thought it was pretty mediocre when I watched the show with how often they reuse clips and the art in the manga far exceeds the anime quality. Now it's something I look forward to every week.

I have to say, being barred from using XD and D:< and the like forces me to try and explain myself better, but I'm sure being an elitist faggot has more to do with it. It's just part of the feeling of community. We Don't Use Emotes Here. We, us. It gives it a sense of belonging.

Yeah but I browse on Yea Forums to see if there is something interesting about anime and manga, not to be a part of a community, no disrespect, I won't change the way I express myself for this reason

>no disrespect,
What you have just described is disrespect. You may not be aware of it, but that's because you haven't really thought about what respect actually means.

>No offense but I refuse to follow your rules
Well, you do you I guess. But don't be surprised when instead of talking about fun biking anime people talk to you about using emoticons instead.

The Summit of the Gods. It's great, but as far as I know there aren't any English scans (aside from the first four chapters which are actually scanlated, and not very well). You can either find complete scans in French and Spanish, or you can purchase it in English (~$100 for 5 volumes). I wish someone would scan it in English because a lot of people are missing out.

Attached: thesummitofthegods01.jpg (1280x1748, 759K)

I really hope you understand that there are no actual rules

Up until about 2 years ago I would have confidently told you that posts with emoticons get deleted. It's a shame how moderation is getting more and more lackluster.

All groups of people develop rules if they exist for a long time. Of course they're not hard and fast rules of the kind that get you banned, but all groups have expected behaviors and not following them makes you an outcast. Nobody would have replied to that post with anything other than opinions on Yowamushi Pedal if only this person hadn't used an emoticon.

>No Eyeshield 21
Why must it be so forgotten???

It ripped off Slam dunk too hard and all the characters are bland other than that one guy, Oishi I think

I will never get over Keijo being cancelled.

Attached: keijo-6878767.jpg (1200x936, 198K)

I really liked Katsu. It was refreshing to read a Mitsuru Adachi manga NOT about baseball.

Yeah. It's my favorite of his works despite it being cut short.

I hope we get another season of Major 2nd

Summit of gods. Average at Best. Its good with backstories but the character reactions and the survival elementos suck. And dont even try the climber, its even worse

Sports arent mental. Stop with bullshit bout mahjong and chess being sports

>the character reactions and the survival elementos suck
What do you mean by this?

Is anybody following the current Daiya no Ace adaptation? How has the season been so far?

Shit taste lad

Kokou No Hito is a literal masterpiece once you get passed volume 5, and as someone who climbs he gets literal every technical aspect of it correct, do you just not like stories about an individual ?

Is horse racing a sport? Are horses athletes?

I came here to wonder why Eyeshield wasnt even on this list, but I see there are anons with good taste in this thread already.

The two things that kill Major for me are the way the drama is written (very soapy) and the way that the author continually relied on external factors (be they injuries or other people meddling with him) to challenge Goro rather than actually writing some interesting opponents. It got old.

Bakuon isn't even a sports anime, its just girls doing nothing but occasionally driving to random places.

>Only one person mentions Inazuma Eleven
How fucking gay can Yea Forums get?

double dead

bakuon was surprisingly good

Attached: american car wash.webm (800x450, 2.99M)

should i read this or slam dunk first? how do they compare? i know real is about wheelchair basketball.

Do you consider karuta a sport?
Consider your answer carefully, although Chihaya will cry regardless.

Attached: a01242.jpg (1280x720, 123K)

You should definitely read Slam Dunk first.

Is street fighting a sport? Would it be a sport if the setting was changed to a sactioned arena?

Attached: 1530671607522.png (311x450, 403K)

Technically it is, but I consider it more a game with some physical activity, like curling.

People talk about chess and e-sports being in the Olympics, but pros from these sports don't want to be associated with traditional sports. They would only be even more discriminated and ridiculed than before. They are different kind of competitions. Leave them separated.

Attached: kagami.jpg (332x303, 58K)

While I wouldn't call Eyeshield 21 the best sports manga by any means, I have very fond memories of it. Sena could be a better character, but I still like him.
Still, I think the Haikyuu is the one that best captures what it feels like to play sports in high school and Ippo was my favorite Until the second comeback match, of course.

Attached: eyeshield 21.jpg (1024x750, 265K)

I am surprised there aren't more karate stuff from japan.

Attached: l_nt_170526dorukara01.jpg (710x1000, 378K)

>but pros from these sports don't want to be associated with traditional sports. They would only be even more discriminated and ridiculed than before.
Someone hasn't heard of chessboxing.

>chessboxing
The comic from which the sport originates (Froid Équateur, part of the Nikopol Trilogy) features a main character that has a similar getup to Joseph Joestar in Diamond is Unbreakable.

Attached: 158.jpg (1290x1665, 906K)

On a scale from 1 to tanoshii, how realistic is tankery as a sport?

1. The sport would be outlawed due to how much it pollutes the environment.

Eyeshield ruined all other sports manga for me. They just cant live up the the standards that Inagaki and Murata set.

However Mai Ball was very enjoyable for a couple of other reasons.

There's a guy in Kuroko no Basket that never misses a shot, and can score from any point in the court. Not even NBA pros have 100% accuracy.

Not at all. It only works because of magic carbon handwaving all the issues.

That's only if you pretend the Manga ended an the Christmas Bowl.

Yeah same here, still loved this Wonky ass manga even though its mostly K-1 shit

giant killing is a bore honestly

Newfaggotry but cute.

This is a sports anime, right?

Attached: Nasu.jpg (316x450, 41K)

Yep, but I would say it is a bit more focused on the drama rather than the action.

Nobody mention Ace of Diamond? People pretty much hate on Furuya but it's a realistic sport manga as far as I'm concerned

Hinomaru Sumo is the best manga/anime about fighting games so far

>football
There is Giant Killing if you haven’t tried it yet. I didn’t get that into it (and now it’s at fifty volumes) but it won a big manga award.

I didn’t like the anime as much as the manga because of the pacing, but the first interhigh has so much energy from beginning to end. Even though the art is kind of weird it worked really well for the series too. I want to read another sports manga that has a similar vibe to it.

Attached: E3D99818-0671-41DD-85B2-06B2EB0A5BE3.jpg (1000x1620, 1000K)

Is Harlem Beat worth checking out?

Is food wars a sports anime?

First interhigh was great, but sadly second is just blantly repeating every part of the first one but with usually opposite outcome.
My boy Mido again got shafted near the end vs Imaizumi, will he ever end interhigh? If only he had decent team instead of 4-5 noname fodders.

I dropped it during the second interhigh.

>Bakuon
>realistic

Yes, God, Angels, talking dogs and cats, motorcycles who turn into humans and can fly and a time-travel helmet certainly spell "realistic".

Who rugby here? with japan gaining ground in the rugby world more and more rugby anime will come out.

Attached: all out.jpg (1897x2049, 278K)

Ice hockey anime never ever

It is unrealistic but the concept of zone/flow isn't.

Oh wow, Reborn author did a hockey manga? Kind of curious yet fearful at how bad it is.

That's like pointing out that each word of a lie is in the English dictionary and has a proper definition.
That's not the point. It's the use of those words that makes the lie.

inazuma eleven would like a word with you

maybe try to read the thread first?

It's more of a drama with the sport as a backdrop. They don't really go into detail about the actual game and more so into how the pro scene is run and how it affects the players.
