The show makes a big deal about the fact that music and culture is now made by AI but doesn't show you any of it. They don't show you how the culture feels manufactured and how that drains creativity from the people, how utterly void of soul the modern music is so people either don't listen to music at all or just think they're all the same, or how culture is now all about catering to the lowest common denominator.

It just assumes you'll think that's a bad thing and root for the two protagonists even though their characters and music are ironically the most artificial and lowest common denominator things in the show. They're so completely bland and inoffensive.

All those things are part of the show's hook. The show needs to establish its world and it failed to do that. The show needs to give you a reason to root for the characters and it failed to do that.

And I'm saying all of that stuff should have been shown already or at the very least given a bit of focus in a few scenes rather than just some characters going "This is how it is." Something as major as AI taking over music and culture isn't something you show later or even something you CAN show later if you've written the world believably. The world feels like a Disney film where everybody is all smiles despite all the dystopian elements.

The rule in visual storytelling is to show the gun on the wall for a few seconds to keep the audience interested in seeing it come back. This show has told the audience about the bullet hole only and expects you to hate the shooter.
