Ripple was only that good in part 2 to me, when characters did specific gimmicks with them and it was more often than not used as a conductor type thing. In part 1 it felt like it did whatever was called for at the time, pretty sure they even stretch limbs and turn some rocks into a kite at some point. Even then it was probably for the best to cut it put after part 2 before the series turned into DBZ with everyone fighting in roughly the same way, Ripple Kars was a great place to end desu. The spin also atleast kept t a general rotation theme and most of the wackier shit it did was aided by Jesus and or a stand.

I think the fatal flaw with Giorno that's the source of his inadequacies is that Araki wrote him less as a character, but more a metaphor. His entire schtick revolves around being a parallel to Jesus. He encourages and inspires others. He manages to deduce problems everyone else can't. He always near sacrifices his life to save and hold up others. And he literally performs miracles and gives life. Now while I do enjoy sniffing out Araki's theologically based theming, it got too in the way of writing a compelling character. Everyone who says Giorno is a gary stu is more than correct because is a literal mirror of one of the biggest gary stu's in human civilization, Jesus Christ. He does a much better job weaving in christian themes in parts 6 and 7 but I appreciate and enjoy the thought he put into Part 5 despite its flaws, people really sleep on deeper subtext to a lot of Araki's writing.

Part 3 is horrible. The stand abilities are boring. Character spotlight is distributed horribly. And for all the supposed motif of people going on a life-changing journey that will bond them forever, they barely ever interact with each other aside from character-irrelevant joking.

There are two Jotaro and Polnareff arcs in the second half and they completely fail to show us what their relationship is. And after a tidy finisher of Polnareff's character arc, Araki decides that Polnareff is going to get MORE spotlight while Kakyoin gets to be the one taken out of the story. Both failing to give Kakyoin the focus he deserves and doing a disservice to how well Polnareff's arc was handled in the first half.

Wrong on so many levels, the episodic contents of part 7 is actually very relevant to the plot unlike part 3. It's not just the adventures of Johny and Gyro where they collect the corpse parts while defeating the villain of the week. Through that "episodic" content we witness the evolution of Johny's ability, Gyro's character, Lucy's steel butt clenching infiltrations etc
Also even if they weren't plot relevant, the mini-arcs are still better on average than stardust crusaders, sugar mountain's arc is my favourite in the whole serie.

Each episode following Jotaro the boy Stand user and his crusader pals as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the part's only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of onomatopoeas, all to make Stand powers not stand out, to make action seem inert.

The problem with the Spin is that its tied to real-world concepts. Like a spinning ball having a lot of power when thrown fits with what we know of life. Even the idea that energy traveling in a spiral can energize a body is believable (it reminds me of Galvani's experiments on cadavers). The issue is that the Spin gets more and more strange as the part goes on and becomes hard to understand what it exactly is. Like why does the Spin let you make your body rock hard, or what is going on with the Golden Ratio.

Hamon feels more like Ki from other series so when it does weird shit it's easier to accept for the reader. When Joseph does something with it we're not trying to tie it to real concepts.

Compare to 7 which is extremely consistent from beggining to end, and has a pretty good climax (albeit it utterly shits the bed with the final boss), it just overall feels better.

People like it because it's early and middle chapters are quite interesting and Johnny is written as a believable person. I really like the part but I hate Valentine's last fight it's so boring so many chapters just jumping universes and nothing happening .
