I tried that too and it ended up with a slightly different dynamesh nightmare, it's not worth it. I exported the bust and am doing the hair in blender with splines.

While I agree that they're not similar, a sad story doesn't not make a character any better or worse. Kakine makes up for his lack of backstory by having an extremely dynamic plot role that ties into multiple story themes and influential characters like Accelerator, Fraluin, Aiwass and even Beetle if you count him. He can be utilized and written onto so many things that Ayu's sad story just feels so stagnant in comparison.

Would you call Fiamma more shallow than Ayu for not having a sob story? I doubt it. What you're arguing makes no sense here, bud. You're essentially saying, "He's already well-handled in the story, so he shouldn't be given backstory." How well he's handled already has absolutely nothing to do with the large blank spot in his history that's never been given any explanation. It's fine and how how good he's been as a foil and how his character has developed in relation to Accel and Beetle, but none of that changes how he was introduced as a cruel, smug, prick with an inferiority complex for really no particular reason. I think being told why would be interesting and wouldn't at all take away from anything that's already been told about him, so why not a backstory?

Also yes, I would call Fiamma pretty shallow. I think he's a better character than pre-Astral Buddy Ayu since her NT11 backstory was horribly written, but bad writing != shallow.

I think that almost nobody cares that much about Fiamma for them to waste time on a backstory considering some of the most popular characters in the series don’t have one. He’s just another big bad of the month who will had his moment and will occasionally show up to do minor things from this point forward.

This started because someone very condescendingly called the guy who even suggested Kakine should have one a few posts back a "fucking retard" as if the idea would ruin the story. It's at worst a diversion from the current timeline, which Kamachi has been known to facilitate seamlessly with 3 spinoff manga covering past events already running.

A backstory would be a good thing ; no one disagrees with you there. The fact that you think that it is inherently indicative of depth is the problem here. Kakine doesn't need a reason for being a vile scum with an inferiority complex because real life humans don't neither. SadStory+Bad Environment =/= bad personality, that's just very narrow minded and misleading in this case. Ayu was given such backstory to help you empathise with her, Kakine wasn't given this because his character role in OT15/NT6/NT8 were simply not the same. Not all characters are a product of their past, both Hamazura and Touma prove that as main characters, and therefore the lack of "why" in Kakines actions mean nothing to how shallow he is because he is someone that naturally rejects morality and labels, it's literally why he prefers being called by his name rather than "Dark Matter". Also, there are plenty of reasons for him to exhibit such traits, some are blatantly even given to you in the form text in OT15 where he himself tells Accel that people who commit evil acts shouldn't make arbitrary reasons justify their scumness.

Depth isn't defined by empathical experiences, especially not when the character that's being discussed is regarded as stubborn enigma.
