Alright, finally caught up on this series.
I like it a lot so far, maybe in part because I absolutely eat up this tropey, shouty, friendship bullshit.

But a part of me kind of feels like the pacing is way too fast for it? At least, up until this recent arc. Even though we're 200 chapters in, I still don't really feel significantly attached to most of the characters. Outside of the major plot points, like the Elves, it feels like Tabata just tosses shit at your face constantly and hopes something will stick. Even the Black Bulls, while I love to see them fight and interact, it doesn't actually feel like I got to know them too well, even in their supposed "focus arcs", because he does the very primitive method of fleshing out a character where you give them a sobstory flashback.

There's also a lot of really questionable mess he does, like having the transparency magic traitor, who we hardly ever saw or knew before that very point he was revealed as a traitor, or Magna completely lacking a backstory in the first place, or the many times a character does something as a result of apparently having been told to do something offscreen that we just never saw. He just loves expending attention on these literally whos, too. I don't give a shit about Charlotte and Rill is just Luck but with paint.

It's definitely fun so far though, but holy shit I wish Tabta knew how to sit the fuck down and write a little more organically.

yeah he definitely gaps character development, but hopefully some of the details will be introduced into the next story with the diamond kingdom.

Zora and Gauche share spell types and personalities. Vanessa and Charlotte share a backstory. Noelle's family drama informs Finral's entire arc.
They're meant to taken in as a whole.

I'm caught up and it still just feels a little ridiculous. Not even just Ronne not being important, the whole "devil" thing. It's over-the-top, I guess, but it's such an unbelievably boring route to go. To have emotional conflict and misunderstanding built up between two races and then trivialize most of that with the whole "okay but they were actually both being manipulated by the REAL SUPER EVIL BAD GUY" is just such a safe way to resolve things. Pulling a generic super evil true final boss out like that just feels like a betrayal of what I sat through.
