If his physical heart stops beating, the bomb goes off.

An old man wearing a t-shirt that has “heart” printed on it has to stop his own heart in a last prayer for humanity, setting off an atomic bomb that blossoms into a giant rose, the symbol of love. It's as wonderful as you would expect from such a layered story, thematic elements resonate across multiple facets of the symbolism of the "Heart".

I recently finished a read through of Erasmus's "In Praise of Folly", which was heavily recommended to me by my fellow Hunterchads. I especially enjoyed the satirical, but deliberate and intelligent critique on the mindless cycle of repeating traditions in 16th century Europe, and found it especially applicable for the modern era.

I remember the section of the work where Folly marches all about, praising herself over and over, declaring that life would simply be dull and empty without her, despite her honest pointlessness. This reminded me heavily of the wayward Boku no Boredom fans who continue to, week after week, endlessly praise their awful series, despite it being clear to the rest of us that any semblance of "quality" and "integrity" the series once possessed now being long gone, the fans simply following and supporting them out of a mindless tradition.
