I think the biggest problem with CGI in anime is that nips can't into frame matching with fluid CGI animations. When you animate a 3D object, you give it smooth movements that could be rendered at any frame rate. The problem arises when the key frames of the animation don't align with the movement of the CG, usually because the artists are lazy and don't want to account for the actual frame rate of the animation when manipulating the 3D models. If DP is actually smart, they'll do snapshot animation of CG horse models to align with the key frames to make them look more natural and then rotoscope over them to match them with the characters.
