A lot of these are new classics, the 2000s produced very memorable series and stories

This, although I would generalize it to around the turn of the millennium. So much child suffering here. Apart from OP's Noein, there's also Figure 17, Now and Then, Here and There, Shadowstar Narutaru. They just don't make'em like that anymore.
