It's worth it. It made me look at the Hunter exam with a completely different perspective. Same with GI.
Honestly, the change in tone from Greed Island to CA feels jarring, but in the manga, it feels like just another story. It makes it better when everything turns to shit. The artwork is difficult to get through at times though, but the paneling is great.

Inspired by it, sure, but Togashi didn't even follow through on his own setting for the series. The whole hunter thing is pretty much brushed off and forgotten until after Chimera Arc. That's why I said Toriko is HxH but superior in every way. It's what HxH would have likely been if Togashi was capable of following through on his ideas. He's basically JJ Abrams of manga. He can come up with interesting ideas, concepts and mysteries but is too lazy and unfocused to develop any of them. That said, Dark Continent is definitely ripped off from Toriko.
