It was awkwardly executed but ordering Euphy to kill japanese was his original plan for Euphy. It makes perfect sense as the event greatly benefit Lelouche by getting rid of Euphy and also stirring up anti-britain sentiment and support for Zero even further as he kills Euphy.
Lelouch knew deep inside that Euphy’s plan simply won’t work out in the long term. At best, a brittle peace will last until Euphy’s death and the Nip’s life will turn to shit again as Britain tighten their rule again. However, his feeling for Euphy was getting in the way and he gave up his plan because he couldn’t execute the plan to do such thing to Euphy. The geass, which is the power of one’s true wish, goes out of control and activates right then to execute Lelouch’s true wish that he was suppressing inside of him.

This was the moment Code Geass became R2. It's the exact kind of goofy shit that happens all the time in the 2nd season and you don't question those because the show has lost its mind by then. How come Lelouch's Geass never evolved to where he could hide it again, like he could originally? Charles wound up with a Geass in each eye that he could hide, but Lelouch could never hide his Geass after it had spread to both eyes.

Possibly down to the unique nature of each Geass like how Mao's could never be turned off to start, possibly the difference between CC and VV

I'd go further and say that the 2nd half of the original series NEEDS a sequel because the ending was way too feel good and boring. It should have had a fucked up ending where nothing went right. Instead, it said "rebel against the world and you'll fix everything" which is total bullshit. Every person that tries that fails. Why is Lelouch so perfect that he avoids that when earlier in the series he made a mess of things for most of it?

Things go well in the end mainly because Lelouch and Suzaku stop half-assing how they were going about achieving their desired results, and take the most direct approach possible.

But it was hardly perfect. The Zero Requiem might have helped stalled the worst of the conflicts going on, but it's stated that it didn't end war forever, just that now nobody wants to look as bad as Lelouch.

"Hey let's introduce this massive conflict because geass powers suddenly activated by accident at this particular moment", fucking lazy writing. Starting a conflict by pure chance is as bad as ending one Deus Ex Machina style. Conflict should have happened because lelouch made a mistake along the way, like for example one of his commands weren't thought through well enough or it was too ambiguous so one of his subject makes a mistake which trigger events leading to a tragedy.

No it isn't. Lets take the betrayal and the UFN meeting to include Britannia. The betrayal only works if every person in the group has their IQ drop into the low 20s. The first problem with the 'evidence' as presented by the Black Knights sworn enemy and known manipulator. First he claims that Zero has magic that can enslave anyone to his will. First, if Schneizel believes this to be true why would he ever present it to a group of people that could be brainwashed and could immediately kill him under Lelouch's control, he has no way of knowing what parameters have been set by the Geass let alone if they'll believe him at all and not just kill him for trying to stage a coup. Second what reason do any of them have to believe this is true, Ougi shows up with a Britannian spy whom he has known connections to, and Toudou has discounted Asahina before, because Asahina has never trusted Zero. Moreover the casualties of the cult raid would make it abundantly clear that whatever qualms that captain had, they weren't attacking defenseless researchers, the destruction and loss of life was justified. And again as far as the Black Knights are concerned the evidence about Euphemia was fabricated. But the best part is that they don't question how if they are brainwashed by magic yet turn on their controller. And after all of this they just get some random people to go along with it and get no push back despite the inner circle escorting around the 2nd Royal Prince and his entourage to go and apprehend their beloved leader. They try to zoom by this so quickly that no one will question it nor that anyone won't spill the beans on Zero not actually being assassinated.

And then you have the UFN meeting which is set up like something out of NuGoT. Yeah just give up those colonial territories you control, I'm sure there won't be any problems afterwards, that shit always works out fine in the end. Fuck R2

The answer is "we have to get to the ending and Zero can't be with the Black Knights anymore." That is why they put Tamaki in charge of recharging the Guren's energy filters, even though he should be comically over ranked to be doing that. Kallen couldn't be around because we need plot to happen. Don't question anything we already have the ending planned out we just gotta get there.

Not like they were barred from trying, but obviously things like the network forcing them to "start over" with R2's beginning episodes and other factors really fucked up the chances for the story to play out better.

given that R2 was meant as a Route 2 for things to start for the second season, since there was originally a planed Route 1 of the stage 26 phantom script before being discarded, I had hoped of an idea of a R3(Route 3), like still keeping in events of how Lelouch got his memories but perhaps both Kallen and C.C. in bunny girl outfits, as well as it could reveal that Euphemia was in a coma like state.

Who knows. I get they wanted Ohgi and Villeta from the get go, but they really could have done better so the relationship wasn't more invasive than Shirley's dead ass antic.

I've been watching anime for many years and have seen way crazier stuff. This is nothing.

I don't think the show was ever supposed to be realistic in tech, if such a thing can be said about any mecha anime that isn't only barely above current robotics levels.

This is hyperbolic. R2 has a few over-the-top parts, but nothing more outlandish than this particular twist. Geass R2 does become more rushed and the pacing suffers, true enough, yet the actual main events are...not that hard to understand when you can see it all.

Even if it hadn't happened, Lelouch would still get a Geass evolution sooner or later, and Euphemia's plan would still end up going poorly after maybe one "let's give it a try" arc. All the twist did was skip to an outcome (Suzaku hating Lelouch even more and Lelouch abandoning the idea of working with Euphemia) that, one way or another, wasn't going to be avoided. At most, it'd have stretched out into the first part of R2 and little else.

This is absolutely true. People who claim a fictional world can't have coincidences or chaotic events, when they happen all the time in real life, are kidding themselves.

Lelouch and Suzaku already had a real conflict. Euphemia's plan was never going to be a solution for more than just a small number of Japanese people.

Euphemia's going crazy and her death simply pushed the conlict forward, but they would have still pushed it forward in other ways. Just taking more time to reach the same point.

The conflict, therefore, didn't start with Euphemia. Her plan was more of a red herring.

Geass was very entertaining but the show itself is only like 7.5 out of 10 in hindsight. It had too many accumualted issues to be truly great. Still, I enjoy rewatching it.

Doesn't change the fact that all they get to convince him is a few fucking audio recordings and a random bitch's testimony. They could have handled it better in making it clear that their allegiance to him was faltering greatly, and perhaps have had a bit of civil war with the likes of Kallen and some others defending Lelouch until being convinced otherwise by his actions when he resurfaced as the new emperor.

I could argue against the first point, but I will accept it would be more interesting if they had a small civil war arc or something like that with a more even division of forces/loyalties.

I find it hard to argue on the first point given that as people have said, how do they know the things are 100% legit? You'd think they could have gotten visual footage of Lelouch's confession to Suzaku at the shrine. If the damned robots can spot people from several kilometers away, why not a camera or recorder from one of those getting visual proof along with the audio? As for Villetta, she does offer some collaboration I suppose, but the fact that Ohgi was constantly hiding her does beg the question why nobody got suspicious Ohgi himself. This is especially true in season 1 since he really had no reason to be trying to dig up secrets on Lelouch/Zero compared to season 2.

Which was demonstrated by 2 subordinates of Toudou whining like assholes for their entire screen time when they weren't trying to suck Toudou's dick of course. It doesn't help that Zero is shown to be almost universally beloved by the nameless redshirts. It ALSO doesn't help that none of the inner circle even bother questioning whether or not if being a mind slave is worth it so long as they get Japan back. I mean mass murder is okay, but I draw the line at being mind controlled to pursue the goal I was already pursuing! None of them even question how they are able to plot against someone who enthralled them, it was just a lazy writing to move the plot along. Just imagine if Lelouch showed up to the UFN meeting, provided sketchy evidence that he was Zero and the world's leaders all suddenly fell in line with him. It seems kinda ridiculous right? But that shit worked on those idiots running on the Black Knights.

Because the writing staff figured that if they were to just make things exceed a certain point of ridiculousness they could count on their droning fanbases to spin the events into some masterstroke of writing.
