I recently rewatched it. First time I watched it I was a zerotwo fag but now realistically, she was a cunt and didn't deserve his forgiveness. She knew he was the kid from her childhood and still took out her frustrations on him, called him fodder and physically damaged him, she knew it and didn't tell him. On top of that shes filthy from pairing up with hundreds of pilots before him. Ichigo loved hiro since he was a kid, even if she didn't understand what it was. Why are you assuming that Zero Two's actions are supposed to be rational? She is portrayed as not being in a rational state of mind. She was run through the brain drain machine various times, she remembered her Darling but it was obfuscated enough that she couldn't fully reconcile Hiro and Darling as the same person and that doubt festered and turned into her crazyness.

Well, on top of all this, 02 is just kind of crazy in general. Her entire childhood up until puberty was endless tests and experiments that went way over the line into laser loli gif territory. Whenever she wasn't being experimented on, she was locked into a room, shackled to a wall, and left to herself all alone. The one time that she breaks loose and experiences actual human contact, it's taken away from her and dangled in front of her face as motivation to do whatever the goons tell her to. She also had to go through regular (and probably also still very painful) treatments to keep her dino side in check, since it starts to come out when she's in a heightened emotional state, which considering her life at that point was always. It's a miracle she didn't completely lose her mind.

She's visibly when Hiro recoils from her fangs. After their fight at the lake she smashes the mirrors and clutches her heart. She's going through an internal tussle.
Now, at the end of the day it wasn't right for her to lash out at Hiro, who was just trying to do right by her. But both of their mental issues were pushed on them, and that they both sort it all out for each other is the appeal of the show at the end of the day, I think.

Do you really? I certainly don't, and I certainly don't miss Darling in the Franxx, the dullest anime in the history of anime. Each episode following the boy pilot, his dinosaur wife and his pals from Plantation 13 as they fight assorted dinosaurs and aliens has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the sexualized imagery, the series' only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make mecha unmechanical, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Nishigori vetoed the idea of Miyazaki directing the series; he made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody, just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for hentai artists. The Darling in the Franxx series might be part of Abe's anti-extinction program (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-Gurren Lagann series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

The writing is dreadful; the script was terrible. As I watched, I noticed that every time the main characters' relationship is discussed, the show announced instead that the characters are "A Pair of Jian Birds".
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Nishigori's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that he has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Darling in the Franxx by the same Hideaki Anno. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are watching Darling in the Franxx at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to watch Evangelion." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you watch "Darling in the Franxx" you are, in fact, trained to watch Evangelion.
