Despite being a brutal pit fighter Jack is a good guy.
He loves his mom, he and Baki gets along well despite the sibling rivalry, he's actually happy to have a little brother and remember that the only one who managed to stop Jack from going back at Pickle again was Baki telling him to sit the fuck down and accept his loss, he also wanted to fight Doyle in order to get a payback for Kosho so he could repay Kureha in some way.
Jack is a very cool character in his own right but Itagaki can't stop making him job and humiliating him for no good reason.

Baki was never grounded. Even before the "deep end" Doppo was destroying concrete sleeves, Shinobu was cord cutting and Gaia was straight up turning into trees and eating bear bones and drinking their piss. One of the first acts of the manga was Baki fighting 100 people and beating 56 of them. The ridiculous later on gets extreme, but the series was never, ever realistic.

It's not really. I did full-contact karate (non of the American McDojo bullshit) as well as Aikido but stopped doing Aikido because it's not effective and thus wasn't useful to me. Sure, the techniques work, but only if the sparring partner isn't actively resisting you. This is the fundamental flaw in Aikido - because it emphasises not fighting there's no competition (even in the dojo) and thus no way to prove what works and what doesn't.

This is something I spend more time thinking of than is probably healthy.
The main thing Doe lacks is stakes.
From the first panel, the only thing motivating the characters is their own boredom, because all the conflicts that actually matter have been resolved (if unsatisfactorily). There's nothing to really get invested in, other than pure spectacle.
Not to mention that Itegaki has taken his disrespectful jobbing to the next level. By focusing the entire arc on one fighter. Since Baki has to be the one to beat them, the only thing that the other characters can be allowed to contribute is as jobbers.

ANy starting point is good, after a while you will learn from other martial arts and come tor ealize that everything is the fucking same even if there are different names for the moves.
After all, the body can only move in certain ways, and it's only efficient to attack at certain points. The rest is rpactice and the skill to predict what your opponent will do.
I've been rpacticing Martial arts for 20 years, done Kendo, Judo, Taekwondo, Krav maga, Boking, Bushu, etc...

I agree somewhat, most style's techniques are similar, but the overall methods differ. I went from Hung-Gar kung-fu to Kempo Karate with little down and the philosophy of the styles were quite different. Enough to throw me off for a while.
Like some martial arts push strong rooted stances, while others push for mobility. Thats a huge difference for learners.

Itagaki should introduce a proper cast of rivals or more focused single character arcs.
The reason why the Maximum Tournament, the convicts or the Raitai arcs were good was because all characters had their chance to shine and there were complex dynamics and situations, whereas things like the young Baki, the prison or the showdown with father vs son arcs were good was because Baki was the explicit attraction, even Retsu's boxer miniarc was good for that reason.
But now Itagaki wants to do more and more arcs in the same way as Pickle's, with one main antagonist that has to deal with a long line of jobbing before Baki steps in to claim his victory, symbolic or not.
It's less about stakes and more about better narrative structures, even if this arc would hype a possible Sukune vs Yuujiro great fight people wouldn't be more interested because the structure itself is still boring.

Dou is in a way a spin off of Baki. The son of the Ogre concluded the story of Baki and his dad. Baki Dou explores other ideas and while the main cast is there, Baki and his dad are not the main point. In Musashi Dou the story spins around Musashi and boredom, the latter being the only enemy Yuujiro wasn't able to defeat. In Sukune Dou the focus is on him and from what it seems, traditions and the foundation of something sacred. Imagine it as Jesus coming back because the church is doing exactly the opposite of his message even tho they are using him as the base for the church. That but with Sumo.

Oliva did it to himself. Sukune didn't even attack. He just held still and Oliva bust his own ribs while Sukune held him in his grip. The entire point of the fight wasn't even that Oliva was weaker than him in a physical sense but that Sukune's body was more suited to fighting because Oliva had a weight lifters build and not a bulk build and no amount of strength gave Oliva the advantage.
If OIiva knew how to fight outside brute force, he might have won the fight but he's always played the brute force card and he finally met the opponent where brute force didn't mean shit and it backfired, like back in the Raitai when the random ass Chinese fighter ended up crushing him until he followed Yujiro's advice and began trolling him.

No. The entire point of the hand pocket was that Yujiro told Baki how to annoy someone and manipulate them into fucking up.
