The make up of the anime industry is a lot geographically sparse today than you think, and the only westerners that can't make proper anime are idiots and the ones that aren't trying.

Why is most Western art so bad? When I see the Western art on Sadpanda and Pixiv they're almost universally of poor quality, and only a handful of times have I seen Western art that looked at least decent. Yet ironically, it seems the Western artists are more defensive of their art (and even more against unauthorized sharing) than their Japanese equivalents.

Because it's not a western medium. It was born out of eastern culture and thought, not western.
Race and culture are fundamentally inextricable, and expecting a white european to have the exact same abilities and tendencies as a japanese person makes about as much sense as expecting a pomeranian to be a good hunting dog.

It's likely a cultural thing, something to do with a greater support for the arts in Japan than in some Western countries.

Because the west's understanding of what constitutes "art" has been subverted by the idea that art is all about "expressing yourself," and the notion that objective beauty standards do not exist.

The eastern art community isn't handicapped by such idiotic concepts. So they continue to either try to make things that are marketable or aspire towards greatness through art, which is what worked just fine for art for the last 3,000 years until *somebody* decided to flip western culture on its fucking head.

Western illustrated porn has always been so taboo that talented, professional artists could almost never do it as even a side hustle. The ones that did, didn't do comics. Just illustrations in randy mags. Meanwhile in Japan there's been a solid, active market for it a very long time.

Because of that the techniques in the West are way behind. There's never been a long, open discourse between artists on how to best depict such erotic situations. A lot of it is just aping Japanese techniques which comes off as ingenuine. The only good quality Western porn is furry porn because the combination of its long-standing niche, ardent market and the religious fervor furries have for their fetish which drives them to make their furwaifus real.
