How can it have this high score? I've seen all the episodes and am planning to watch it through the end in hope the story will get good. However, it's probably most mediocre anime I've seen. Shallow characters, unconsistent and at times horrible and lazy animation. Good sound design means most people won't pay attention to. This might be one of the only anime's which I've found bad enough to notice. Big moments and fights feels super underwhelming because of it. Is it only because of cute Raccoon girl that the anime has such a high score, or is it just that everyone rated it really high in the beginning where the anime actually started off strong?

Once you get past the first three episodes, it more or less turns into a 'safe' isekai fantasy with romcom elements and decent animation. And thats usually good enough to cruise a fantasy series. And if this is the most mediocre fantasy series, you haven't watched enough anime (thankfully).

Watched a fair share of them. Never finished sword art online tho so can't put into the basket of mediocracy. I just feel that shield hero has no strong points. Bad sound, decent but incosistent animation, shallow characters and a story that never feels to unfurl and makes like 10 of the episodes feel like fillers. The art ain't bad, but nothing you will remember. Nothing spikes in this more than mediocre. You had like the Slime anime last season. Fine enough, the characters were quite shallow there aswell, but the animation and sound compared to shield hero is truly lifting it up from mediocre even tho it lacked in character and story

Could have fooled me. They seemed to be working together in the first and second wave. Maybe not directly perse but they were all attacking the same enemy. Basically different groups part of the same raid encounter. Having an actual tank would be pretty important. They must be shitty MMO players.

As for the country isn't the alternative basically them getting killed by monsters? Actively sabotaging your primary means of defense (the heroes) seems pretty fucking dumb whether you hate the guy or not.

Scores useally retains the score after they finish aswell, only slightly bigger/smaller. Watching the rating on one of the most popular anime site, and thus getting more votes for a more accurate score yes. Ofcourse people are overscoring/underscoring for silly reason, but every site where everyone can vote, it's like that. It only helps you telling what to expect from the anime. If an anime has an average score of 5, you will know most likely to stay clear of that anime compared to one ranked 8.

It is, but not in the game they used to play. See in that game the Shield Class was fucking broken, and not in the 'kill everything' way, in the 'this is literal garbage no one will ever use' kind of way. Imagine if Shuckle was an MMO class, that's what the Shield Class was.

Now of course its a case of 'useless at the start gets way stronger later' as with most things, but they're convinced this is the same game they played before and in that case, Shield is SHIT. In all honesty he's still not great when compared to mind control or time powers, but he's not as useless as they were sure of.

The weapons can unlock similar powers so if one can mind control, the others can. For the time travel power though, the only instance of being able to unlock such a weapon comes in a first come, first served basis.

This episode was probably the best-animated one in the series so far, even despite the CG dino. A fair amount of good effects animation during the action scenes. Even the character art and animation looked better than usual.

The animation for a simple walk and talk was fantastic, so many nicely done details and small touches. It's a shame the CG fight was so lackluster-especially that blood splatter-in comparison because its obvious they have some talent here.

There's been legends about "Demon lords" who might've been summoned heroes that lost their way. And you know how they handled that? Summoning more heroes.

If anything, the countries would rush to summon the new 4 heroes away from melromarc. I am not sure if the 3 hero church have those artifacts that indicate if the heroes are active but they did arrange for having artifacts that boost the chance of a summoning. Not to mention the matter of the waves make hero summonings even more likely to succeed. Which is why they were able to summon all 4.

Did the producers ever provide a reason why the Wave in the anime drops enemies out of the sky instead of crashing in from the horizon. Every time I see the S2 opening, I'm reminded they've taken a bit of the piss out of Cal Mira boss because of the change. Was it because it was like that in the LN or what?

The waves are literal cracks in spacetime. They could be anywhere. And yeah it's like that in the LN.

Yeah, I know that. I wouldn't be bringing it up if I didn't.
My point is that I liked the Manga's method, where they used literal cracks that, up until that point, only appeared on the horizon, so when Cal Mira happened, the appearance of the boss had a bit more oomph compared to how it will in the Anime.
But if literal waves dropping enemies was how it was in the LN then fine. The Anime has already shown to pay attention to some things that I know the Manga skipped over.

Again, I know how it works. Stop trying to explain how it works.
I'm talking about the depiction of the wave in the Manga compared to the Anime and how it'll impact Cal Mira. The Manga went the route of showing it as a crack on the horizon in the first two waves, and enemies emerged directly from it. Chapter 38 made a big point of Naofumi looking for the crack on the horizon right before the page I previously uploaded.
On the other hand, the Anime has the crack sending out those waves throughout the sky, dropping enemies everywhere. This means the appearance of enemies and the boss dropping from the sky in the Cal Mira arc is going to be a lot less impactful in the Anime compared to the Manga because that's how it always works in the Anime. Sure, they haven't shown the source fissure itself on the top of the sky in the Anime yet, but that doesn't matter much when enemies always drop from the sky anyways.

It was one point about how a different depiction will change how one scene will work for the arguable worse
A question regarding why the animators chose one depiction over another.
