What is weaker, a giant moth pokemon or an actual monster-looking yokai in traditional Japanese fashion like Tezuka himself conceived? I would like to know the reason behind this change, and also why this character got completely ignored for all the episode only to appear at the end and get killed by Hyakki, when in the manga she had a more active role.

I'd have to give Tezuka's design a slight edge, but they're both lacking to me. Woulda preferred a mothmonsterwoman, more along the lines of those giant caterpillars with chubby baby arms.

His Gurren Lagann episode had an artistic sense to it, something that would be terrible in a conventional sense but unique when you appreciate it in its own environment. However, the episode is part of a mecha series - where poor quality animation would typically get any studio eviscerated publicly.

Those were good. Tezuka came up with some original ideas for the demons in Dororo, probably also motivated by being a worthy rival to Shigeru Mizuki.

Is it really the directors fault? Animation this bad seems more likely to be the result of a complete lack of budget. Which is just odd, since this isn't exactly a unimportant episode.

You need to learn more about how animation is produced. The leadership of a director and their subdirectors, as well as how long the animators had to work on it and who the animators were are far more important than budget.

There is no way in hell this production has anything other than standard if not larger than standard budget. Doesn't matter how much money you have if the people working on it are rushed and incompetent. Just look at tales from earthsea from studio ghibli. They gave Goro Miyazaki every shred of financial support he needed to make a film as good as his dad's yet it turned out to be a dumpster fire because he was not competent.

I don't know why people think this? only 3 episodes into the second half, and a break before it even began, and the previous was part one - the set up - to this latest episode, which is understandable having a bad reaction to.
