If Subaru was naturally talented, didn't rely on save scumming. What would differentiate this story from any other Isekai?
All the arch bishops would have to be nerfed so that they could be beatable on the first try and if subaru didn't rely on side characters, then everyone would question what value they bring to the story (if any). It would just be a generic story where the MC one shots his way to victory.
I really don't understand this criticism. The whole narrative would be completely flipped and there would be 0 appeal after that. Are the critics just fucking stupid or are Kirito fanboys?
"save scmumming' really belittle what actually happens to him, anyone who thinks badly of his plot armor isn't paying attention to the mental strain it puts him through. Which means they didn't finish season 1 or are just stupid.
Luke Watson
You're right OP. Critics are stupid, as is everybody that would trade Subaru's savescumming and constant suffering for a God slaying sword or some super powerful power ups.
If you remove what makes Re:Zero, Re:Zero, you're left with another garbage isekai, made to appeal to eacapists that want nothing more than to self insert as a strong man and build a harem of girls.
Camden Butler
An Asian character that actually looks somewhat Asian...
Connor Foster
Nice reddit spacing, but Re:Zero is just as bad as any other isekai with its level of escapist shit. Not that it's bad just don't kid yourself.
James Cooper
It’s not that we want him to be kirito. We want him to get stronger through his own merits. That’s where the payoff is.

>What would differentiate this story from any other Isekai? The meido would never fall for him.
Luke Collins
He gets used to it pretty fucking fast to the point that he develops an easy reset button (can stop his own heart).
Jaxon Brown
Muh Isekai is ackshually BETTER because the protag doesn't have to follow the rules!
Jack Williams
>(can stop his own heart). Stop repeating that. It never happens.
Jordan Brown
>If this story was the same as all the others, what would differentiate it from the others?
True; "save scumming" isn't restoring from save when you die, it's constantly saving before every metaphorical throw of the dice and restoring if you don't get the optimal result. But I guess it rolls off the tongue better than "restoring from save".
Absolutely it's the same kind of escapism as any other isekai, but it's at least executed a bit better than most and isn't the worst kind of wish fulfilment.
William Johnson
He is getting stronger, emotionally & psychologically. You kiritofags just want him to asspull strength because you can't do that IRL. Why should Subaru deserve to be stronger than people who are naturally talented and have been training their entire lives?
That's what's wrong with most anime. That some random 16 year old virgin can suddenly get stronger than a 80 year old wizard who has been training in a volcano for the past 60 years by a deity. Grow up, he's a kid and it should NOT be possible for Subaru to be stronger than anyone but the lowest level of grunts. He should not be able to be on par with the strongest swordsman in the world after he only spent a month in a fantasy world.

There are already two rezero threads - why?

Asian people doesn't look like that, dumbass. Real human doesn't look lile any anime characters, period. And comparing anime to real life is stupid.
Dominic Wood
Why do you insist that some isekai and its main character are some sort of literary accomplishment?
Dylan Richardson
>MUH Dark Souls of anime
Oliver Smith
this anime is the antithesis to escapism though, the main point of it is that subaru is a still a pathetic entitled neet after being isekid and suffers massively because of it. he has to absolutely work his ass off to do anything and even then he's still weak and insignificant. that doesn't sound like escapism to me
Sebastian Carter
That’s unironically why it appeals to many people however. For these same people (myself included) this is why is inability to “git gud” is frustrating.
