Her development is weak, her character is flimsy, her design is extremely bland and she contributes very little to the story. She's trash.

At this point in time, Ram has unironically had more story time and plot relevance. Not to mention she was more of a character than Rem in the first few episodes of the anime and a lot of early adapters fell in love with her sassy, tough-love mentality and charm way before Rem turned from a spooky villainess type into a teary moeblob playing our heartstrings so well.

Ram is a kickass character who would be a fan favorite if Rem wasn't pushed so hard and overshadowed her for the length of time the anime covered in its latter half. A highlight of the upcoming anime will be Ram sucker punching a weretiger with a shoryuken.

Regardless of the confession for Rem, it still seems like Emilia is the one who comes first in his mind. I don't doubt that he loves Rem, people can be in love with several individuals at once, but if it comes down to having to make a choice between having a monogamous relationship with Rem or Emilia there doesn't seem to be much of a doubt that Emilia would come out on top. The LN didn't completely murder it. It just horribly disfigured and crippled it. It's still a pretty good story - just wholly and in (almost) every way inferior to the other option available.

The anime is actually really solid as an adaptation of the LN, save for some cut content related to Rem. I just wish it was a WN adaptation instead.

Rem got a ton of dialogue, detailed backstory, shitton of screentime and consistent character traits. Emilia was shown to be kindhearted, sympathetic and passive. Both got fleshed out plenty however Emilia's backstory and destiny still aren't really clear.

A pure evil villain has Motives that are frivalous and indulgent, but detrimental to the rest of the world which he's indifferent too. Despite this, this constantly upbeat and charismatic behavior, while seeminlgy unjustified, makes it hard to hate this character. His unearned confidence is abrasive, though, and when he comes close to defeat and starts to break down mentally it's just as satisfying to watch.

So if you take that kind of character, and force him to restart every time he dies, it puts him in an unending cycle of selfish confidence, Mental breakdown, and reluctant heroism which leads right back to selfish confidence.

This puts the story in an odd situation where they not only have to set up the expectation for a fantasy isekai adventure for Subaru before turning that on its head, they have to set up the audience's expectation that subaru is in any way a standard Isakai hero who's destined to fight the world's main villain (instead of the obsessive fanatic servant of the worl'ds main villains that coincidentally does heroic deeds on his way to making her become the ruler of the world).
In order to set both of these up within the span of the first episode without making the story too confusing, the setting of the world is made as generically as possible as far as Isekai fantasy goes, and waits until after the first arc to build on any world lore or interesting side characters. This is the Riskiest fucking move the show does since the main appeal of an isekai genre is exploring the world it takes place in. While it's understandable to be frustrated watching this show, the real payoff slowly starts to sink in after a while, which is why it ended up being so successful.

I like the idea of subaru being a pure evil villain trope, except he's simply wearing the mask of a hero. He does revert to that pure evil nature akin to the joker in the ayamatsu IF which makes us know that with enough push, Subaru would become the ultimate evil in lugunica.

They're edgy and a huge stretch, but it's still the author stretching the characters to an extreme yet still possible angle.

Subaru becoming a full on villain would be kinda lame honestly. I like him more as a highly flawed hero who deep down still wants to do the right thing.

The very point of the IFs is to illustrate a world where the circumstances vary slightly - so saying Subaru is out of character is ridiculous when it's a "what if Subaru was the kind of person who would make Choice X but otherwise the same; where Choice X is what makes the difference". They do tend to be edgy - although that's kind of the point sometimes - and some of them are straight up bad, but they're generally not OOC, save for the variations that are the point of doing them in the first place.

I predict the last arcs will have Subaru be seen as a villain by Lugunica because he keeps doing what he thinks is right(trying to save Satella, allying himself with the likes of Meili and Roswaal) and as a result Reinhardt will be one of his last obstacles since he always does what a hero would do. Eventually the people might become scared of the Emilia camp and ask that Reinhardt stop them, and Subaru won't back down because his development will force him to do the right thing even if it makes everyone hate him

If you thought the anime was good, read the WN. Everyone who had read the web novel agrees that the next web novel arcs are 1000x better than anything in the anime. And at the very least look for translations of content cut from the anime since some seriously important shit got cut

meh Subaru was pretty consistently likable and sympathetic. The fact that he's fucking stupid tends to be annoying with the autism Rem conversation (what a retarded way to reject someone) and the disaster in the throne room among a few other small things. Subaru is true of heart which makes him likable but flawed in so many ways that it makes him realistic.

he didn't really get everything he wanted in the end.... His future is uncertain and Emilia didn't even reciprocate his feelings (makes sense cus Subaru had many deep connection with her that she didn't experience). However the shit with Rem pissed me off and I'm not sure if it's harem pandering bullshit or if it will add to the plot and characters.

He has all his progress in relationships with people reset multiple times. And he remembers it all while to the others it never happened. It's not like he can repeat it genuinely either. Must be maddening.

A bit, but for the first half of the anime he's an energetic, silly, and genuinely caring character. He's also keeping up his act as the charming, competent, and motivated hero. I see no reason to hate him until he drops the facade, and even then hating him is a bit of a weird response; I think the logical thing is to sympathize and root for him to become better, whilst understanding that he is deeply flawed and has fallen back on acting like a total twat.

When Rem tells Subaru the Fantasy she'd built up in her head, it does two things: it gives Subaru the respite he needed without having to run away, and more importantly, it makes Subaru realize that even if other people can't restart after death, they still dwell on the future and think of entire lifetimes that might never happen. Rem Reminds subaru that he isn't alone, That's the main take away of that speech.
