if you haven't watched it 3 times you haven't really watched it
Spice and Wolf
Hyouka
Ping Pong
TTGL, Eva, Kill la Kill, and Eureka Seven.
Yes. Multiple, actually.
The longest series I've rewatched multiple times (at least three times from beginning to end, not even counting the reruns on TV in my youth) is Sailor Moon, all 200 episodes.
The most recent one is Cutey Honey Universe. Exactly three times: Once when it aired, once all of it at once a few days after it had finished and then about two months ago after buying the BluRays. Only 12 episodes though.
Are there actually people who don't rewatch their favourites?
Eva, k-on, kill la kill and the little witch OVAs
I watched SNK s1 7 times and Fate/Zero 5 times.
They were the only ones on my tablet as I lived on mountains for a few months.
only because i've watched it with people who haven't seen it multiple times. akira and space dandy as well
Yep. Akagi has the prize for the most though. I can't get enough of it.
I've watched Code Geass way more than 3 times
No, I just rewatch the cool scenes. I do reread shit though since you can read a series faster than watching it.
This. Now I'm tempted to go for my 4th watch.
Hajime no ippo.
i have watched Flip Flappers at least 100 times
If a series does not get mentioned in this thread, then it's obviously shit.
I don't even remember any show that I watched twice
But why, user?
K-on.
I watched a lot of anime like eva, lain or shamploo, re zero 2 times cause they're great but k-on is the only one i can't get enough of.
I enjoy Saki a lot so I've watched taht 3 times. I also watch Candy Boy every Christmas, it's just part of my Christmas comfy ritual. I'm not sure I'd call either of them 'compelling', though, so, not really OP.
FLCL
Evangelion (5 times)
Madoka (4 times)
Yuru Yuri (4 times)
Nichijou (3 times)
Darling in the Frannxx (3 times)
Also I don't know if this counts because its part of a series rather than a full series, but I've seen Diamond is Unbreakable 3 times.
OPM S1 and Yuru Camp so far. I think I will end up watching Endro! several more times too.
Soul Eater, Samurai Champloo/Cowboy Bepop, Toradora, Konosuba and Haruhi, there are others. Sometimes instead of watching new seasonal anime I’ll just rewatch old shows for some reason
Attack on Titan
One Punch Man
Death Note
Princess Mononoke
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
>anime that gets shit on the most is actually the only anime worth watching
>all the hunterchads and pseudo-intellectuals who circlejerk their anime are nowhere to be found here
Hard to tell, I always forget what I watched and how many times, so I rewatch random shit if I feel like it, but I believe I watched Evangelion four times and maybe pic related. Not sure about the rest.
Kill La Kill, for Satsuki
there have been several anime i've found good enough to watch 3+ times.
but the better answer to your question is what anime should you never even watch once.
>pic related
Sora no Woto and Baccano get almost yearly rewatches from me because they're compact. I've rewatched Kino no Tabi a few times.
I ended up rewatching Apocrypha like 4 or 5 times because of watching it with different people. Hated it on sight, it only got worse.
I have seen Free! S1+2 more than 13 times. I like swimming and working out and it was Free! that made me start. Everytime I go back to my homeisland for the summer I watch them(sometimes multiple times a year). And no I not gay, I've fucked girls and Gou is my waifu. Maybe bi. Does just looking at pictures of the Free! boys count? No wacking off ever but the collection is quite large.
I don't even know how many times i rewatched rebellion.
Trigun
nostalgia is the only think to have made me able to do that and it was with pic related.
Dragonmaid
Vampire neighbour
Non non biyori

Eva

I'm very embarrassed about that.

I watched Berserk 4 times, Hunter x Hunter 3 times, Perfect Blue 5 times.
No regrets.

>Berserk 4 times, Hunter x Hunter 3 times

>Perfect Blue 5 times
Is it good?
I don't think I have watched anything more than 2 times and don't intend to do so any time soon.
Eureka a cute A CUTE !!
season 1 of OPM. Probably will rewatch in its entirety when this season is over. Also Samurai Champloo (3 times). if we are including movies, I have seen spirited away maybe 5 times and Akira 4 times.
evangelion
I usually marathon FLCL in one night yearly, just to keep the juice fresh
If anything Space Dandy is worth infinite rewatches but I just never get around to it
>Is it good?
Weird question, i watched it 5 times of course i'll say it's good.
it's fantastic if you like dark, psychological thrillers

Usually not my cup of tea, but I've started downloading.
Why haven't any of you bitch niggers said space dandy?
About time
Cool, I hope you enjoy it is much as i did
Also Death Note for me. I've shown Death Note to everyone I've dated that hasn't seen it. So 2 people in high school and then 3 more times as an adult. It's not the best anime but it's my favorite. I always show them the dub. The overall quality of the Japanese is probably superior but I feel like the English version of Light is unmatched. But it could be nostalgia too.
Easy
Watched FLCL like 4 or 5 times probably
I've binge rewatched LWA like 10 times because my daughter always wants to watch it again and again. The anime is amazing but at this point i'm more fed up of it than of Frozen.
This, watched it at least 7 times since it came out, Rebellion even more often and I still find new things I haven't noticed in that movie.
I think I've watched eva nearly 10 times now.
Sakura Trick, it's the only one though not my favorite
I rewatch my waifu's anime every so often.
Free! is the worst anime I have ever seen.
Gunbuster. I watch it almost every year.
Did you like the new ones? I still never saw em.
evangelion, monogatari, madoka, ttgl
>rewatching Eva

Madoka and NGNL, including films
When I saw Eva years ago I was so obsessed with it I saw it 5 times within 6 months because of my autism. It became hard by the fourth rewatch but I kept grinding.
Spice and Wolf
Parasyte was the only anime I watched 3 times
It's so detailed that every time you watch it you find something you never noticed the previous watches.
I thought, and hoped, people were just pretending like with VE, next you're gonna tell me those people are serious too?
I've watched Hyouka 4 times and I plan to watch it many more.
Yeah, but since after the first time I watched it I read pretty much everything I could find, by the fourth or fifth time the density of new stuff wasn't worth a rewatch at all, and it was painful to know how after episode 15 it's a downwards spiral for most of the characters.
I've been meaning to rewatch it for the scond time soon, it's top comfy.
The law.
Fun and lighthearted show where you get rewarded for turning off your brain.
>it was painful to know how after episode 15 it's a downwards spiral for most of the characters.
Literally watched the series from like episode 12 or whatever because I found the earlier half too boring. The drama at the end is what makes Eva so good. It goes from a neat mecha deconstruction to something far deeper philosophically.
My favourite episodes are towards the end, after 15 the quality goes up and then 19-24 is even greater. I'm just saying it's depressing.
Insomnia's a bitch, huh
K-on
Plants need a little rain to grow.
I never watched anything twice. I might look for a specific scene on youtube later.

I watched entirety of Hidamari Sketch times now
And there's a high chance I will do so again
>Not enjoying the melancholy feel of the first 6 episodes
What's wrong with you user?
FLCL, Ping Pong and Your name
It was good to watch the first time, but the real engaging parts come well after asuka is introduced and when the tension between eva pilots increases to breaking point.
I still love the vibe those episodes give and they never get old for me on rewatches. Maybe I'm just more enamored with the direction.
I have watched Girls und Panzer 3 times, Girls und Panzer der Film at least 5 times and Nichijou also 3 times probably
Too many, I'm a NEET and watch a favorite again like every time I finished something shitty. Probably at least 10 titles or so.

JoJo Battle Tendency
Hellsing Ultimate
Pop Team Epic
Same for me except Eva. Have yet to fully rewatch that.
No.
I'm an attentive fag and didn't get a lot of enjoyment out of the rewatches I did.
I watched all my favorites twice but much to my regret they never gave me quite the same satisfaction, and there's few details I overlook the first time through.
>Girls und Panzer 3 times, Girls und Panzer der Film
That's horrifying, user. How did you watch no-plot the anime and same-no-plot the movie so many times.
Is this some kind of suicide attempt?
I've watched White Album 2 at least 4 times now.
How the fuck can you guys do rewatches.
Everytime i'm trying to rewatch a show or a movie, i can't shake that feeling that i could be discovering something new instead
There's just so much shit to watch, and i'm not just talking about anime.
FLCL
>Everytime i'm trying to rewatch a show or a movie, i can't shake that feeling that i could be discovering something new instead
Funny: Most of the time when I watch a seasonal anime, I can't shake the feeling that I could be watching something that I love (and that's better) instead.
K-ON! and Hyouka
I'm not keeping count, but I've probably watched Madoka + Rebellion 20-30 times.

Haibane Renmei, Eureka 7, Ichigo Mashimaro

Also Lain
Sword Art.
I've watched that series (in entirety) as follows:
>1st time
>2nd time immediately after I finished it the first time.
>3rd time before S2
>4th time
>5th time before the movie
>6th time before S3
Then I watched S3 it felt soulless, so now I am waiting Unital Ring and for SAO to reach a close. Something happened with the Alicization adaption and it was dry as fuck.
This but unironically,

SAO
Aahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Now THAT was an anime!
this but I spent the second time actually paying attention
A good anime can make you discover something new on at least one rewatch, be it narrative nuances or just appreciating clever technical things. I always enjoy analyzing the things I love and what makes them work for me. I often get more out of this than watching even more trashy stuff. Though you're more likely to do it on a regular basis if you've really watched a lot.
The classics really: FMA(2006), Outlaw Star, Ghost in the Shell, Kaiba.
You should be
I've never seen GiTS, is it good even compared to today?
You should be watching it instead of asking stupid questions.
do you have a specific torrent bundle you can recommend?
Absolutely! The first season you want to think about the idea of memes and how they affect the world around us. The second season of it could almost be an allegory for the times we are living in. This includes the refugee crisis happening in major parts of the world.
Princess Tutu
Movie or anime?
Movie is basically a 2deep4u art movie that is hit or miss
TV anime is an entertaining sci-fi show but no masterpiece by any means.
the og dragon ball
It has some good points.
The reason why Hollywood got on board with making their movie was because the ideas in the show are so relevant today.
thanks anons
I rewatched GitS a few years ago, it's one of the very few DVDs I still own from the '90s. It's got the same problem as a lot of groundbreaking works in that a lot of the stuff it introduced has been copied endlessly by everyone else in the years since so you can't feel how novel and mindblowing it all was at the time anymore.
The visuals hold up well, but the pacing is frankly painful and I still don't like the ending. If someone had made it today it wouldn't be considered anywhere near flawless.
I was 13 when I first saw it back in the mid-'90s and I can't express to you how amazing it was in that context though.
Teekyuu and Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou.
Darker than Black is somehow my most rewatched anime even though it isn't my favorite.
It's a shame filthy casuals got me first into anime, I would've appreciated the 90's classics first instead of 2010~ nonsense

A few, actually, with various reasons.
>Evangelion + EoE
I've watched it like 4 times during different stages of my life starting with my first watch when it aired here on TV and I saw it by chance (I was around 12) and the latest rewatch being last year (age 26). The different amounts of life experience and different perspectives resulting from that make it a different experience every time and I love it. Partially because of Nostalgia goggles, too.
>Madoka + Rebellion
There's so many different ways to interpret what's going on that it's always a fun rewatch
>Flip Flappers
To date one of my favourite anime although it did lose some of its greatness during the last few episodes. But once you know that perfect illusions are different people's subconscious it's fun to interpret what's going on in that particular crazy LSD trip
>Kill la Kill
Mostly nostalgia goggles, it's still fun no matter how often I watch it. The same goes for Gurren Lagann.
>Afro Samurai
Having Samuel L. Jackson voice Afro and Ninja Ninja, as well as having Wu-Tang members and other rap legends responsible for the soundtrack makes it incredibly stylish and fun.
Yeah, I feel pretty lucky, the first sort-of anime I saw was Robotech back in 1986 which I was obsessed with when I was a kid, then later I saw a lot of the '90s classics like Akira and GitS and Cowboy Bebop, I don't think I even saw any anime that didn't turn out to be enduring classics until I was well into adulthood. It was only after college when I started torrenting all kinds of stuff for my friends that I realized the horrible truth, that tons of anime came out every year and most of it was flat-out awful. I thought anime was just all uniformly really high quality? It's funny to think about right now since I'm here on Yea Forums looking for new stuff to watch because I'm not excited about much of anything in the current season.
If you think about it though, it's good to be a young anime fan these days because there's decades of truly great material out there to catch up on. And if something casual and low-quality brings you in, you've got nowhere to go but up.
this and flip flappers
>that tons of anime came out every year and most of it was flat-out awful
the unfortunate reality pill that newfriends have to learn the hard way
after hetalia's silliness, everything felt like a good anime so I don't know if my judgement is accurate
>Code Geass

>Soul Eater
>Nuku Nuku
>Hayate no Gotoku
>Seto no Hanayome
>Galaxy Angel
I've watched an episode of Galaxy Angel almost every single day since it aired in 2001ish. I've probably rewatched the whole series 20+ times
Death Note but unironically
>Cutey Honey Universe
How did you like the show compared to the other Honeys?
I've watched FLCL 5 times and the new ones are complete trash
They're just very generic, tropey stories that slap on the themes of FLCL without actually understanding why they were in FLCL or what made the original interesting in the first place
I think the worst part and best example is how each of them treat Haruko, neither of them have any idea how write for this character so the first one writes her like a teenage girl who got broken up with and the second one writes her like a magic fucking genie that grants any wish the MCs have. It's some clownish bullshit.
Not even to speak of the fact that neither of them fit into a canon with each other and barely fit into canon with the original, which makes the entire endeavor feel pointless.
Basically what I'm saying is that neither of the FLCL sequels should have been produced at all, and since they pretty much add nothing to the universe of FLCL there's no point in watching them.
When I was 14, I used to watch EVA every month. 12 episodes in a row. Watched it at least 7 times. Didn't rewatched it until last year and it was even better than I remembered.
Try to make the most of having undeveloped tastes, don't let people shame you into not enjoying things you'd otherwise enjoy.
Once you learn more about storytelling and animation and such you can enjoy things on a deeper level but it also ruins a lot of unsophisticated-but-fun stuff out there, don't be in too much of a rush to do that because you can't really go back.
Also never be afraid to say 'objectively this is trash and its flaws are numerous and severe but I still love it'
good to see there are still some quality posters on Yea Forums
you rewatched the entirety of logh 3+ times?
Steins;Gate 8 Times and always on christmas
I do prefer it to the other anime adaptations, even though I do like (and rewatch) all of them. It stayed truest to the themes and characters of the original manga and managed to expand on them in a meaningful way. It had my favourite versions of Tarantula and Natsuko, and was the first ever to feature legacy characters like Naoko and Eboji.
On the thematic level it works extremely well when you apply a metaethical interpretation (which I generally tend to do).
It has some problems when it comes to pacing, but, as often with series, and as my rewatches have demonstrated to me, those problems tend to disappear when you don't wait a week between episodes but watch them back-to-back.
As for the others: The original Cutie Honey (1973) is still very much worth watching, even though it sometimes feels "old". It has the same minor pacing problems (I've recently watched it one episode per week and it shows in the second half) and it is a bit too strictly formulaic. But it has great aesthetics, is very entertaining and lovingly made.
Shin is probably the one with the highest production value, looks incredible and is a great watch. But it's a sequel to the original and works best when you view it as that. I don't like where they took Zora for it, but that's another topic altogether.
Flash is basically Sailor Moon season 6 with different characters. And for some reason, it works. Gonna rewatch it soon when the subtitled version is completed. (It's being released on nyaa right now. Search for "Cutey Honey Flash" with Y, not IE).
Re:CH is the one I enjoy least of the adaptations, but I still like it a lot. It went more for a flashy comedic route and Anno did reinterpret lots of things. Jill and Panther Claw weren't really as interesting as antagonists as they should have been. Still, very well animated, great design, generally good aesthetics and direction.

I end up rewatching shows a lot since I only see like 2-4 shows each season.
I don't watch them all at once, but I'll also occasionally watch some one off Mushishi, Natsume, Hidamari, and Working episodes since I can just watch one episode before bed or something.
It's good practice for learning another language.
Now if only those filthy Italian fuckers would hurry up with their subtitles so I can go for Round IV.
I watched Inuyasha on tv like 6 times when I was a teen
But I never actually watched the last season.
Steins;Gate is one of the few I've rewatched once and I only did that because I bought a 12-pack of Dr. Pepper and marathonned the original series before watching all of Steins;Gate 0, that was one hell of an emotional rollercoaster of a weekend
I should probably rewatch more series, the only others I've rewatched even once over the past couple of years are Fate/Zero and One Punch Man, I don't think I've ever watched anything more than 3 times

You somehow managed to outautist me, weren't you groaning at the thought of watching the show again by the fourth time or so?
Im actually watching R2 for the first time atm, so I can go watch the movie in a few weeks. Should I be expecting a train wreck? I heard mixed stuff about s2
I have, but it's usually pretty tough. Some of them are shows that I watched when they were airing, and they're just not the same when you binge them all at once. There's two that I never saw week-to-week which I have rewatched, but those are special circumstances.
Most often the case with rewatches is that I try rewatching too soon after I saw it the first time and get bored because I already saw everything and it's too fresh in my memory. There is one special case where that somehow wasn't the case though
>Boarding School Juliet, Bunny GIrl Senpai, and Zombieland Saga
>Twice Each
these are the three that I watched while they were airing, and I ended up rewatching too soon. Ended up falling asleep and missing almost an entire episode sometimes, but I remembered what happened well enough that it didn't really matter anyway. I was glad to know that picrelated is still complete kino on the second run-through.
>Darling in the FranXX
>I don't remember lmao
I binged this one a few months after it had finished airing, and I've rewatched it quite a few times. Sometimes it was just stretches of 5-6 episodes, sometimes it was the full 1-15. During the month and a half after I first binged it, I didn't really watch much else. A lot of the time, I continue to rewatch singluar episodes just because I feel like it. It's a really nice 15 episode show and I enjoyed the hell out of it.
>Eva
>2 times
Binged this one, then rewatched it in its entirety about a half a year later. Maybe that's the limit as to how long I have to wait before enjoying a rewatch? hopefully, because I'm planning on rewatching it again soon, as well as a few others.
Again, I have an issue with being completely bored during a rewatch due to having seen the show for the first time too recently. To prevent that, I've been watching a fuckton of fresh shows that I haven't seen before, currently on Log Horizon. I line up said fresh shows with a tournament format, to make things interesting.
also, I'm really glad that this thread didn't get derailed by cynical shitposting. Usually, if the OP has anything to do with certain infamous shows such as FranXX, the thread very quickly becomes a cancerous shitfest that's better left to fall off the board. Things turned out okay this time though.
DitF is shit and it’s not the main topic so it’s basically ignored. If you can watch it and rewatch it all the power to you, but you’re probably brainded desu
ive seen ttgl more then 15 times now
Samurai Champloo
FMA 2003 when I was 15. I was fucking obsessed with it and even spent a week binging the show+movie multiple times. The only show I'd probably do that with now is Natsume Yuujinchou, I've seen at least a few episodes 5+ times now since I'll just choose an episode at random then get absorbed and marathon like ten episodes from there.
I'm temped to re-watch Berserk 1997 and Lupin III Castle of Cagliostro
Thinking about watching the 1998 anime adaptation of trigun. is it worth a watch?

It's so dumb, but I love it.
Code Geass is the only show that keeps coming up that I somehow avoided watching all these years. Is it still something you'd recommend watching in 2019?
I've been trying to catch up on various older shows I missed lately and so recently I watched Guilty Crown (ehh) and Oreimo (I knew it was coming but still WHAT THE FUCK)

Obviously Toradora every year.
Mostly it's movies though, not series that I rewatch (like Ninja Scroll, Honneamise or Porco Rosso).
As for series I watched Mononoke five times, because even though the twists and turns of the story were no surprise any more, the delivery and presentation was entertaining enough.
I like rewatching series I liked at least once.

>Is it still something you'd recommend watching in 2019?
It's not like it has an expiration date. Good shows are good no matter what the current year is.
Same. I legit tear up at some points still
Certainly not Darling in the Franxx, the dullest anime in the history of anime. Each episode following the boy pilot, his dinosaur wife and his pals from Plantation 13 as they fight assorted dinosaurs and aliens has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the sexualized imagery, the serie's only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make mecha unmechanical, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Nishigori vetoed the idea of Miyazaki directing the series; he made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody, just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for hentai artists. The Darling in the Franxx series might be part of Abe's anti-extinction program (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-Gurren Lagann series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.
>a-at least the writing is good though r-right
"No!"
The writing is dreadful; the script was terrible. As I watched, I noticed that every time the main characters' relationship is discussed, the show announced instead that the characters are "A Pair of Jian Birds".
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Nishigori's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that he has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Darling in the Franxx by the same Hideaki Anno. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are watching Darling in the Franxx at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to watch Evangelion." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you watch "Darling in the Franxx you are, in fact, trained to watch Evangelion.
I've rewatched Code Geass every year since like 2009/10

Absolutely jian. What next, you're going to accuse me of making waves?
memers call it a train wreck. And also because the writers care more about making things as crazy as possible instead of trying to keep things grounded in reality. So characters do the most absurd things. I wouldn't call it a train wreck. I would call it hectic but entertaining.
Look at all the delicious hate. Makes me want to watch it now. Haters who follow a series so long, and are overly critical of it tend to secretly like it.
E.Y.E anime when?

It's not the best show ever but I've seen Angel Beats a few times. The show is pretty nostalgic to me.
Gurren Lagann and FLCL as well.
Samurai Champloo and cowboy bebop.
100% nintendo onions
not anime but CGshit
Done properly it would be glorious.
Just imagine lots of hand-drawn mechanical and architectural autism, with a dash of 80-90s cyberpunk OVA aesthetics on a high budget.
So pretty much never.
Good man.
Not to mention the plot being the craziest trip

I like funny shows
I hear the ED all the time for sure.
This and this at the same time. Whenever I try to rewatch something I feel like I could be discovering something new that I will fucking love.
Yeah, also it's like adapting a VN with multiple routes, and all routes are important to the plot.
I guess a strong Texhnolyze vibe would be part of it.
nope.
>Are there actually people who don't rewatch their favorites?
I don't since I will find some flaws that ruins my nostalgia.
pic very related
Accel World and Gundam Unicorn. Also much of Monogatari since the characters talking to each other is enjoyable enough in itself even through repeated watchings.
THE LAND IS CLOAKED IN DEEPEST BLUE!
Steinsgate and Eva

Oh yeah, I forgot monogatari and GuP and Wolf and Spice due to watch togethers with Yea Forums
Eva, cowboy Bebop, space dandy, konosuba, TTGL, outlaw star.
One Piece. I truly wish I was kidding.
Eureka 7
Shoujo Ramune
How and with fillers?
How many episodes a day? That's a long ass show.
>One Piece.
Why?
>I truly wish I was kidding.
Especially considering this: Why?
AO
Inferno Cop.
at least like 8 or 9 times by now.
You've seriously watched all of One Piece three or more times? You're not just talking about the first season or something?
I usually discount extraordinary claims made on Yea Forums but I'm afraid this one might be true
I've reread some manga, but not a lot of anime come to think of it
3 times? umm, maybe Madoka, Made in Abyss, Houseki no Kuni, Girl last tour..
I usually rewatch random episodes from a series when im bored, specially if it's just a comedy like Hinamatsuri or Yuru yuri, or a comfy SOL as Yuru Camp
fuck what they say i like it too
Code Geass, NGE, Hyouka, Diebuster/Gunbuster, Gundam, Gundam Unicorn, probably Gundam Origin soon, too, Macross Plus/DYRL, OreImo (lol), Eden of the East, Metropolis, okay... if I start naming movies I'd say too many.
I could watch Penguindrum or Lain again.. maybe some others
But I could really start Code Geass any year and have fun rewatching it all... It's not perfect and it could use some editing, but the characters are great and I guess it just can be fun to watch. I might get sick of it one day. the mecha had its moments, especially toward the end.
I've watched Kemono Friends and Ghost Stories at least five times. Someone send help.
Kemono Friends is pretty comfy, I could see keeping that on repeat
Now that I think about it the only anime series I've seen more than 5 times is Elfen Lied, for some reason that series makes people say 'wow this is fucked up, I need to show this to my friends' and I wind up rewatching it with people
I never do that i tried doing it with Higurashi but i still remembered everything and it's no the same as watching it for the first time.
Unironically Asobi Asobase
>it's no the same as watching it for the first time.
That's the point though: Rewatching something, you will notice so many details that you missed the first time around. You're not overwhelmed by the big plot points and flashy effects, but can pay much more attention, approach it with a way more academic mindset and gain a whole other level of enjoyment. You might understand plot cohesion better, now that you know the bigger picture and, at least when the thing you rewatch is well-written, appreciate the narrative structure differently.
You can understand minor themes and symbolism that you might have missed before. You can pay attention to things you usually don't pay attention to when you watch it for the first time, like sound editing or animation technique (at least I don't think about those initially when I watch something new).
That's why rewatches are so damn rewarding - provided the thing you rewatch is worth it.
I rewatch comedies and slice of life as background noise or something to distract me when I'm feeling shitty if that counts.
monogatari is so fucking boring and useless. it has no meaning.
You're a fucking brainlet. I notice everything the first time.
I've watched many a couple of times.
Three or more ? Seto no Hanayome because it just cracks me up, FMA back when my tastes were refined and classy and Slayers S1-2-3 because it's that good.
>I notice everything the first time.
Oh, sure. You certainly do notice everything you're capable of noticing. The more you actually are able to understand, the more rewatches or rereads you need. That's a pretty simple hermeneutic principle.
But there is hope for you: The more different things you watch, the more you broaden your perspective, and thus, at some point, you will gain the intellectual capacity you need to grasp more of the things you already believed to know. (It's called "growing up".)
I’ve seen Ping Pong 5+ times
Its really not as cyberpunk intellectual jargon the movie will lead you to believe in the TV anime. First season of SAC is like CSI with cyborgs and the 2nd season is more geopolitically focused, especially concerning Japanese nationalism and militarism.
>Seto no Hanayome
Mangaka commit suicide a long time ago. Ever since I found out I couldn't laugh anymore. I just felt bad whenever I looked at the anime.
Reminds me of that quote from Gigguk:
>anime is trash but so am I
Did you finally realize Smile threw the match?
3+? Prob some porn.
>as background noise
My Japanese is not good enough to watch anime while doing other things. I have to actually pay attention to understand things, and preferably have subtitles with it.
If I hear stuff in the background that I only understand bits and pieces of, I find that rather annoying.
I still think some anime is actually too good for the trash bin...maybe I'm being too generous.
Also that motherfucker got me addicted to Domestic na Kanojo
Locodol
Great show with a dash of idolshit, I Iove it
I watch a random Oreimo episode before going to asleep
Code geass is the only one so far
I think Ive seen GitS SAC front to back atleast five times now, and that doesnt include times where I just pick an episode out at random to watch
I've watched Oreimo three times. I've seen madoka twice and UBW twice, I'll be making it three for those two soon

Attack on titan
I've watched Kill la Kill around 6-7 times, Thunderbolt Fantasy S1 around 4 times, Miira no Kaikata 3 times and Overlord S1 3 times. Few series were watched twice but usually I just watch shows once, maybe some really good episodes I repeat watch now and then.

Cowboy Bebop

Any Lupin series
Basically if it's episodic and especially if it's comedic chances are I will have forgotten most about it in 1-2 years thanks to the high amount of details being introduced every episode and dropped in the next one since that's what makes a show, well, episodic. And so every few years I constantly refresh my memory and have a good time with those. But I don't remember ever rewatch a plot heavy anime with long arcs like say, Hunter X Hunter. I just don't feel like it.
>flcl
It's literally a polished turd.
It's good to see a lot of anons know what's what in here for once.
People, the more you watch and learn, your ability to grasp, notice or appreciate things you've already seen improves if you aren't a moron. Now, the usual user (moron) thinks this means as you see more anime, you start to refine your taste somehow so that you only like better and better anime. No.The real magic and the 4th panel of the enlightenment meme is when you go back to things you formed an opinion on years ago and realize what it's really like vs. your clueless initial impression. This is what makes a classic a classic. It is also why, after enough time, you will feel embarrassed about how clever you thought you were when you shit talked Sailor Moon or Kill la Kill.
More simply, there is always something you missed, especially when it's dense material with a lot of foreshadowing that you literally can't get 100% of on the first watch. This can apply to dumb comedy as much as 4deep5u material.
Personally I run the gamut from insufferable faux-intellectual edgelord at times to reasonable normie to braindead retard laughing at the dumbest shit. Due to this, I have repeatedly (perhaps obsessively) watched:
Sailor Moon
Akira (and the other big 80s-90s mini anime boom big ones...GitS, Ninja Scroll etc.)
Haruhi
Lucky Star
Aku no Hana (I mentioned edgelord right and it's genuinely good on rewatches but gruelling deliberately)
KlK never gets old
Amagi Brilliant Park and for similar reasons Konosuba are fun over and over
What I usually don't rewatch are things with suspense or tweests that just feel like wasted energy once you know the twist or reveal. I liked Death Note but once I saw the entire plot, I'm not sure I would watch it again. All those little layers of detail you might find in something else are kind of the whole point of the show so they are teased out as you go and ironically, nothing is left to realize on a second pass.
Good lord, how Haruhi fucked with you using this.
>Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040
>Full Metal Panic (currently rewatching IV)
This guy. This guy right here gets it.
>I've watched FLCL 5 times
Jesus christ. Forcing myself to sit through that dreck just once was bad enough. Also progressive and alternative were better than the original.
Aww yes, truly a man of high culture
I'm with you there.
Madoka (36 times), GuP (8 times), Sora no Woto (6 times), K-ON (6 times), Steins;Gate (3 times), probably something else I'm forgetting. I have also seen parts of Monogatari 3 times but not all of it.
I feel like I'm pretty much hitting the rewatch cap with Madoka. The past 3-4 times, I don't think I have gotten anything new out of it. It still has a nice atmosphere though and basically the music, voice acting and Inu Curry's parts are enough to make it a cool experience every time, even if the novelty factor isn't there anymore.
I've beem meaning to watch this, have it downloaded and everything. No good?
Eva and one piece for me
>my most rewatched anime
Same here. The episodic first half of S1 has so many little things hidden in plain sight, the rewatch value is almost infinite. Even tough Suou sidelined Hei, I liked S2 as well, because it was even more depressing than S1. But my favorite part will always be the in between Gaiden. That was peak Darker than Black.
Probably YuYu Hakusho.
ive rewatched yuru yuri, non non biyori and most of the monogatari series many times
Code Geass and Steins Gate. Probably Attack on Titan when it finishes the Basement season.
Almost every comedy show gets a rewatch every few years
>Madoka (36 times)

>Madoka (36 times)
Damn. And here I've only watched, my favourite anime, Evergarden 4 times. I need to get on your level.
I forgot Black Lagoon, which means it's time for a rewatch too.
You see the pattern yet Yea Forums? The only anime worth rewatching is shit that came out a decade ago.
Bullshit. People named lots of stuff from the last few years.
And a decade ago was 2009. Right in the middle of the worst era anime has to offer (by far).
Well if you've already seen a 2018 anime 4 times, I'd say you're well on your way. Just keep at it for another 7 years.
I can't rewatch things unless i'm showing them to someone.

Oh it's good.
You'll simply never be the same.
>In general any anime that's over 10+ years ago. I did not exclusively mean 10 years ago
How about you say that, retard? When someone says "ten years ago", it's commonly assumed that he doesn't mean "thirty years ago". And in anime, there's a huge difference between 1990 and 2010.
And while I haven't counted, stuff from the last 10 years seems to make up more than 10% of the things named in here, despite your claims. If anything is underrepresented, it's anime from the 60s and 70s.
desu i have watched MIA more than 6 times now but only cause i re-watch it when i show it to people and answer any questions they have about it . its pretty comfy

Damn, maybe I don't love K-On as much as I think I do. I was really crazy about Clannad though to the point where I thought it was a masterpiece minus the ending that didn't translate well in the linear anime medium. I still think it's a great show, though the failures of Maeda Jun's more recent shows have certainly left a bad taste in my mouth regarding to the Maeda Jun/Key nakige formula. Also, the art style didn't age well.

Why is my wife Violet Evergarden always involved in these coincidences?
Cat Soup. I sometimes need to remind myself that anime can be good.
Eureka 7 is the only one that I can think of where I've watched it 3+ times for personal enjoyment. There are a bunch that I've watched 3+ times due to introducing others to anime (Fate/Zero, Psycho-Pass, Baka Test, Madoka, TTGL, Shin Sekai Yori).
>sakurasou
Comfy as fuck. Sure, it doesn't really have any amazing displays of cinematography or a complex plot or even all that memorable of characters, but it is an amazingly relaxing and easy to watch series.

I think once is practically mandatory due to how influential it is, but, yeah, I'd agree that it's really not very good. I could understand a bunch of rewatchs if you were an anime scholar or some shit, but for some random gaijin hobbyist? Ridiculous.
That's a very faulty logic. Why the fuck would I rewatch newer anime when I've seen them much more recently? Relife was pretty good, and I love the HF movies, but they're recent and I remember them well, so no point in rewatching them.
It's crazy. So hyped for the move.
I wish I could bring myself to rewatching TTGL, but I know it won't be the same experience as the first time ever again. Unless I somehow get amnesia.
I think I've seen pic related five times fully, something weird and amusing always happens in the first minute and then you can't not finish the episode.

I did it with flcl and end of evangelion just to figure out what the fuck is going on. I don't mean the seishun coming of age, muh hedgehog metaphors, but what is actually happening, gave up after a while. It also happened with the kyousogiga onas but with those actually actually well made and use show don't tell well enough, so i could figure just from those few minutes most of the setting that gets so horridly info bumped in the anime.

Did you not see me purposefully omit 7-11? I was on the verge of dropping it after 11, I barely gave a fuck anymore. The episodes I've mentioned are actually good, especially 5,12 and 13.
Pro-tip: If you have to pick out individual episodes that you can consider "actually good", that's a pretty good indicator that they are, in the context of the show as a whole, still not worth it.
Its my go to depression show. Why do you think so many people here watch it?
You watch enough seasonal shit and you'll realise that sometime there's more new content in old good shows than in crappy new ones.

Fate zero as historical? Man this shit is hilarious.
Fuck off, stop moving the goalposts. Plus 1-6 works as a full story and so does 12-15 kinda.
That seems like an easy to reaxh conclusion. I was never able to really get into seasonal anime because I just forgot about the shows due to lack of enough interest.

R2 is great. Akito movies are the trainwreck.
Eureka Seven and Kyosougiga
Good thread, everyone.
I liked to read what shows others hold in high regard and rewatch regularly. Of course, I do not agree with everyone's tastes, but I won't hold our differences against you.
It was a largely cozy thread and quite enjoyable. Thanks, anons. And thanks, OP.
TTGL is a trainwreck. The ending where they go into space is just garbage.
Cheers user
>aliens asspull
This. I can't believe they repeated that shit with franxx.
Ending is one of best in history, try again.
The space bullshit is plane retarded. Why do all trigger/gaina shows have to have dumbshit endings like this?
>doesn't recognize the copypasta
Well anyway, you got me. I do like the show, in fact it's because I like the show that I made the edit to the copypasta. I have however, only watched it once. I do intend to rewatch at some point and will read the manga when it is complete.
>Kyosougiga
It's garbage and the MC has autism. Wish I could get my time back from watching this shit.
>Eureka Seven
This is great and the new movie was amazing.
This shit was so cringeworthy. I don't know why anyone would put themselves through it more than once.
>aliens asspull
I never understood this. Maybe it's because I know aliens are real and in fact have some alien ancestry myself, but I never think of aliens being behind it as an asspull in fiction because I know we are are actually behind everything in reality.
>Rezero 3 times
This was a masterpiece especially the first arc.
