The second one (and dual audio) wouldn't be as much of an issue if you didn't need to remux an MKV anytime you changed something. I wish you could just remove or add audio/sub tracks or edit the sub tracks like the container is just a folder filled with the files.

Some people like having what is essentially an archive of the bluray disc. If you don't want that then download another release that's smaller or reencode the large release yourself.

Erai-Raws never again.

It's actually a blessing because if it's dual audio the chances that tons of normalfags seed on a public tracker will always be higher.
Also just switch the audio track to jp once and never look back?

I don't really see the issue with Coalgirls beyond the bloat which honestly isn't too bad compared to other releases. At least they don't degrain, over sharpen or do any other nonsense that could otherwise be achieved with the proper madVR settings.

Wew. I don't think I've ever seen that much bloat. Unless, it's been done to preserve grain.

Attached: GOODS-00077964_051.jpg (240x300, 27K)

I don't even think the official blurays have that much bloat.

Do you have any Coalgirls stuff downloaded to check the bitrate? On bluray releases they generally use up all the space I think.

Well yes, they do. There's very little compression (if at all) on BD's. At least to my knowledge.

I was going to use K-ON as an example since that's one of the higher quality things I have downloaded right now but I can't find out the bitrate on its blurays. So for Redline, the copy I have is 1080p and a little lower than 10GB. It has a bitrate of 13,500 kbps. The bluray has a bitrate of around 30kbps, which I think is standard for blurays. 20-30kbps. That's about the difference between most releases and the bluray discs. Blurays also have lossless audio in multiple languages. Coalgirls releases probably have bitrates closer to what's on the disc and lossless audio, which is why they're so big. And some people want that.

this. the worst thing is it starts English, and you have to change that and enable subtitles every damn time

OK, here's an example. Exiled-Destiny release. 2 audio tracks, 2 subtitle tracks, in this order: English Dub, Japanese Dub, Signs/Songs, Full Subs.

The cmd line would be, in the folder of the files, this:

FOR %B IN (*.ogm) DO mkvmerge --audio-tracks 2 --subtitle-tracks 3,4 --default-track 4 --track-name 4:VobSub --language 4:eng --track-name 3:SRT --language 3:eng --track-order 0:0,0:1,0:4,0:3 -o "%~nB.mkv" "%B"

You need to add the Mkvmerge folder to your paths in windows though, so you can execute it from any folder.

i liked their release of 3 gatsu no lion and the persona 3 movies. i don't get the meme.

I've never seen a release have the audio tracks fucked like that and not labeled correctly. The subs doing that are annoying though. I went through the Haibane Renmei videos I have recently and removed the English audio (to cut down the size) and change the language of the signs/songs sub track to undefined rather than English.

What's wrong with this? I've seen some comments on Nyaa by people who somehow have hardware that doesn't support 10bit but releases shouldn't cater to people with caveman setups.

Watch a comedy subbed by Commie and you'll understand.

They're as close as you get to reliving your 90's anime game experience.

The point is dual audio having "eng signs" is expected. Ask sub groups do they do it accidentally and not just fucking with people wanting to watch in jap audio.

I think these type of faggots just stream now.

There's fuckton or a movie size would be on the order of magnitude of TB (for normal 1080p). It's just completely transparent.

stop using niggagram.

I know you guys act elitists and such but how do you accept the fact that you still watch animes with subtitles (Japanese audio ofc) unlike me?

I don't think the codec really matters that much. There are people that spend their time shitting on every codec for various reasons. Either they think it results in worse quality for some reason or they have hardware that can't play a certain codec or whatever. Reencoding a video results in lesser quality though. You'd only get any benefit if you reencoded from the bluray to that codec.

I think x265 is supposed to have better compression. The funny thing is that the people who think x265 automatically results in worse quality are probably the same people that shit on Coalgirls for having large releases to provide an experience closer to watching the bluray.

The King's Avatar chinese dub is alright. always watch everything in their original language.

I don't understand it, characters ARE their voices.
It's like these faggots think it's ok until they replace the voice actors for the Powerpuff girls. Shitty anime dubs are fine though I guess huh

It's that easy when you don't speak english. The options were very limited

Well if you dont speak jap reading text can be really detrimental to following a show.
Any fast paced action scene = you miss out.
tatami galaxy is like that all the time

The show has to be constructed like monogatari that theres a scene where people stay still for 5 seconds, you read the text and comprehend the visual element before it changes.

Kek. This was so common in Spanish speaking anime communities. These faggots were always stealing other fansub's work, compressing it and putting their shitty watermark on it. And then uploaded heir shit to direct download servers in order get points or some form of financial remuneration. What a bunch of fucking niggers.

Wew. That's rare, but I could never manage to circumvent that issue myself without changing the track order per file.

I wasn't aware of that. What a shame.

that might just be because it was a while ago though

>I wasn't aware of that. What a shame.
The EG (1080p) release is the one I downloaded. I initially downloaded the 10GB release but after comparing the video quality it was like night and day. Not even because of the lower bitrate causing blocking, which never really bothered me, but it was beyond blurry and the colors were more muted/darker. Considering Gundam was on 16mm film I didn't expect the difference between 720p and 1080p to be very large.

As I grow older, I tend to like Dual-Audio more and more. My archive is turning into Dual-Audio library.

Almost all of the anons defending dubs have problems with reading and can't keep up with subtitles.

When you're in that position, it's easier to rationalize all the ways dubs-are-just-fine-you-autists than it is to travel back in time and not flunk out of third grade.

The only good excuse I've ever been given for watching dubs is dyslexia

I'll give DBZ a pass for the dub, some of the voices are genuinely good but the faulconer score can go fuck itself and the retarded braindead faggots who shove the Final Flash theme over every big moment can go fuck themselves even harder

You mean watch it twice so you can both read the subs and watch whats happening on the screen.

As a fellow ESL, I have no problem with how US TV shows and movies sound. But jesus christ, English anime dubs are cringe to the max.

The only thing where x264 is still better than x265 is compatibility, because you need an actual computer to be able to play x265 files smoothly.

This is what happens when your internet is monopolised and the government doesn't give a fuck

>maintaining the same quality as x264.
this isn't true for nearly all of them at all. x264 can retains 1:1 detail and quality to the source BDMV/ISO, while x265 can't mainly because of retards. i'm not sure why people think because something is new it's better. the only reason to use x265 is for the HDR aspect for 4k (and there aren't that many anime in 4k either), it was designed for 4k. most people encoding anime with x265 are dumb encoders who don't know what they're doing, or re-encoders just re-encoding other works (most being x264 ones) into small sizes with dumb settings. h264 10-bit will always look better, most x265 releases are subpar and not even the better ones look better than x264. h265 should be a really good format, but it doesn't mean that everything in h265 will be better than the more mature codec and knowledgable encoders working on h264 releases.

and besides, the real future is not HEVC, it's AV1 and VVC

Remember Coalguys?

Never had much trouble with Virgin, but BT is just a joke for sure.

This seems to be the case for most Anglo countries. Crumbling infrastructure which ironically can't adapt to the modern innovations that happens in these same states.

I'm on Virgin too. The issue is that BT owns all of the cables in the entirety of the country, they have a monopoly so even Sky and Virgin have to use their cables. These cables are still the same shit from when we first got internet with fibre optic lazily slapped on
That's why the max speed Virgin can do is like 150 down

>The issue is that BT owns all of the cables in the entirety of the country, they have a monopoly so even Sky and Virgin have to use their cables.

This is literally the same situation back in my home country, a bonified corrupt shithole. I thought a capitalist UK would be against this fuckery.

I think they acquired the monopoly through some deal where this outcome or scenario wasn't foreseen.

>That's why the max speed Virgin can do is like 150 down
Don't they have a 200 and 350 package now? Though the question is how much of that you actually get most of the time.

Honestly I don't know. The last speed I saw advertised was 150 down but I haven't watched TV in forever and I don't pay the bills so that's over my head. I'm on the 150 down package and I get a consistent 90-100 down through a powerline setup. I assume with a true ethernet setup I would get close to that 150 down

It's not their fault you're retarded.

How do you get hot water without a boiler?

>ebic 4cheng nazi otakus on steroids are an actual diverse community from all races, countries and walks of life
The Internet is amazing.

Either a central heating unit for the entire complex, or just pipe hot water from a larger reservoir

How does the water in the reservoir get hot? Where is this reservoir?
Boilers seem convenient to me

Attached: 1555733942643.jpg (374x374, 41K)

The reservoir is heated by city services and then sold to the housing company or whatever.
Boilers are not convenient since you can run out of hot water.

Here's an example from my country
energia.fi/en/energy_sector_in_finland/energy_networks/district_heating_networks

I had no idea this was a thing. Pretty cool, but it seems that only cold developed countries would ever need something like that. Like England I suppose.

Easy.
As I said, basic Yea Forumscore will get you through as far as taste in manga/anime goes. Don't put shonentrash/isekaishit/haremshit/fujotrash in your top 5 for either category. There's nothing wrong with saying you follow these series, though.

what else are you supposed to do on the fucking treadmill right?

>Like is it just because we're used to lower levels? Can't we just then train ourselves to stop being used to it?
I grew up watching 60fps soap operas, they still look like shit.

Original Japanese voices have their varying levels of quality. But most of them are decent to good. There's many reasons for this, but the biggest one is, the company has to sell the product. And Japanese people gravitate to certain shows based on what seiyuu they have, much like idols.

Western dubs don't have this market. Because voice acting for animation (and animation overall) is considered a third tier profession. Something people only do when they can't get legitimate acting or voice work. It's seen as a fallback when there's no other option left for struggling actors. Who in turn, don't put in the kind of effort they would on other projects.

Added to this, dubs also have the problem of being done as quickly and cheaply as possible. By their nature, dubs are made for people who will listen to anything in their native language. Their audience is not interested in quality, just anything besides having to hear those ching chong voices. And dubbing producers know this. So they do one takes and churn through the content as cheaply as possible. As well as change the voices whenever the previous actor asks for a pay raise or they would have to pay extra for the rights to use someone. As usual, everything comes back to money. And dubbing voice actors don't draw in the fans like a Japanese seiyuu does for the Japanese fanbase.

Attached: batou_gif.gif (356x200, 608K)

But all this is just from the economical side of things. I'm someone who actually knows both Japanese and English and can say that the Japanese voices tend to be better the vast majority of the time. This isn't some Japanese bias, but just a realization that there's a lot of cultural tropes and acting inflection/tone that cannot be translated into English accurately. When the English dub tries to copy it, it comes off as cringe-worthy. When the English does ignores it, it comes off as stilted and lacking the intended tone of the original work. This is just how dubbing works.

And it goes the other way. I've watched stuff like the Japanese dub of The Simpsons or Spongebob and they can't get the original tone/meaning of the scenes either.

If you don't care about getting the creators original intention, and you don't mind a product that is done super cheap and quick, then by all means dubs will work for you. But eventually, most people come to the realization that dubs are not necessary. If not for the fluctuating quality or the loss of translation, but for the cost. Because free and quick will always beat waiting and paying for a dub.

I've watched Spanish and Italian dubs. They don't match the original intentions either. Though they do get closer than English dubs who don't give a fuck about anything. The Spanish dub of Sailor Moon was definitely better than the English one. But no, it still had plenty of differences.

The Italian dub for Legend of Lemnear made my PP hard

cost to make real 60fps is nowhere near worth any perceived quality improvement

It also looks unnatural. Kind of like 3D CGI movies look kind of off, because they're almost too fluid compared to 2D animation or live action.

How could it look unnatural when your eyes can't even see above 24 fps?

Try taking a 60fps game then setting the FPS to 24. And see what happens.

Attached: memed on.png (500x305, 72K)

It's not bloat, it's called not compressing the filesize of a BD to the point where it looks like a stream. A BD rip should be no less than 1GB per episode.

I never understood or could even tell a difference. I remember around that time was when I started hearing about codecs and how MadVR was the best shit. Had it installed for years and maybe noticed less than 5 times that it actually improved the picture. Whether it's 8 or 10 bit the default plugins seem to do just fine.

English dubs are for illiterate Americans who can't even read their own language even though the font is enormous.
>tfw your brain is working fast enough that you're listening to the Japanese and comparing it to the subtitles to see if they're trying to slip any political bullshit in there

It's more about being lazy and ignorant than being able to read. And there's people in all countries who fall into that. Even Japan has dubs of western media.

How illiterate do you have to be to not be able to read a sentence or two of size 36 font in a fraction of a second?

The only way to truly support the anime industry is to buy raw BDs directly from Japan. Paying for streamshit and localized BDs is supporting people who actually hate anime and want to change it into tumblr shit.

you ever seen a soap opera? that's what 60 FPS cinematography looks like.

are you still downloading anime from Kazaa?

American women do not know how to act sweet the way Japanese voice actresses do. There is always some level of attitude present in an American woman's voice.

Not true at all

What the fuck was the difference? I've seen a couple times where Coalguys hid little messages in the show with the subs. Attention whoring if you ask me, even the giant t.v. station sized watermarks you see on older stuff aren't that irritating because they keep them relegated to eyecatches.

It's because American society promotes the exact opposite of cute. Not just in women, but everything. It's really hard for a voice actor to just turn on cute when they've been actively training to be the opposite of cute their whole life. Of course, I'm not pretending that American voice actors who go for the deep voiced, stoic roles are great either. But at least they can halfway pull it off.

Japan has the opposite problem. Most girls train to be cute. That's why the serious or stoic roles tend to go to the same handful of seiyuu who can pull them off. And they tend to get typecast in those roles.

What does AB have that Nyaa doesn't? I used to hop back and forth between Nyaa and BakaBT but lately I can find just about anything on Nyaa that I used to on BT even the obscure shit. Big surprise fellas, if you treat your site like a little secret club don't be surprised when your community dies.

Just memorize how many times to hit a and s for each show. Bonus points if you type ass or have to load a .ass file.

>What does AB have that Nyaa doesn't?
Seeds

AB has old content (almost any old show you can think of), some exclusive BD releases, and constant seeds

Anime is not even animated at 30FPS. The only time you'll notice a framerate that high in anime is when the camera is panning. Even if it's an anime with some CG for cars or machines they slow the framerate down to match the animation which is like 12FPS or something.
The only case where a high framerate would look nice is in one of those CG movies like Appleseed or Captain Harlock.

So is it even a contest between Baka and AB? Because all I ever hear about is AB, nobody says shit about Baka these days.

>watching anime on a smartphone

I've yet to see something that doesn't have at least 2 seeders on nyaa

I've noticed Baka's seems like a ghost town lately. Not many comments, front page news update maybe twice a year. Not hosting objectively superior releases of older versions they've had sitting there for years.

Nothing particularly wrong with BakaBT, they just dont keep literally every release like AB does. Did they ever actually reopen registrations after they went private again?

Attached: 1555263168030.png (637x675, 540K)

Are we unravelling the dick or just measuring lengthwise?

the best part of bakabt was the QC which 90% of the time got you the absolute best release. unfortunately, after they shat the bed and closed their registrations, people stopped uploading to bakabt and nothing seems to get past the offers page anymore. the lack of users was made worse when AB opened their doors to welcome bakabt refugees. I still use bakabt once in a while for release comparisons for older releases but for actually downloading from, it's pointless since AB has freeleech on all 1080p content and has freeleech for all content fairly often

absolutely true, where do you think the term "soap opera effect" comes from?

Not sure if they opened up again. I've had an account there for a long time and I only use them in emergencies when I can't find something on nyaa so now my ratio is abysmal because I don't want to keep track of whatever meme show to seed that season just to get a fraction of a point back. Not to mention they literally had loot crates on the site for a little bit.

A lot of stuff if you want anything other than recently aired shit.

AB has manga which isn't available anywhere else on BT, and is usually the only place for older releases.

Plus you have choice, on nyaa you've usually only got one choice for BDs.

Even if they're not terrible, there are basically 7 english VAs that do anime dubs. Everyone sounds the same.

learn to use ffmpeg noob

Not quite. I liked how the Hellsing English dub actually was English, i.e. British English. That was a refreshing change, even if it did get old again.

I also thought the Ghost in the Shell dub was pretty good, and enjoyed the pre-kai Funi DBZ dub and Faulconer music (no bulli).

I'm a native English speaker who got into anime in the late 80s. Dubs were bad back then, to the point that people mocked anime for them.

Over time, anime got more mainstream, but the dubs didn't get better. It's more that people just lowered their standards and got used to them. This can be seen by the dubs people still tout as the best dubs ever. Almost all of them were shows that were on adult swim. The dubs were still terrible. People just watched Cowboy Bebop, Kenshin and Inu Yasha on repeat 20+ times and got so used to them, they started memorizing everything. And it became nostalgia to them. And when you point out all the horrible acting or inconsistencies, they just go "its great because its so cheesy and cringy!" Kind of like people went from mocking the dubs for Symphony of the Night or Final Fantasy X to ironically liking it. But then, before they realized it, they started unorinically liking it because it reminded them of their early anime experiences and childhood.

Dubs are dangerous, kids. Say no to dubs.

FMA and Baccano are dub kino and only legitimate retards subscribe to the idea that literary and cinematic works should be consumed with their original language intact. Russian literature and Yea Forums are very good examples of this mental illness.

Yeah, we should totally watch all those Americanized versions of Italian, French and German operas. They're SO much better!

It's best for shorts especially when you can't be assed to get off bed.

Add to that AB doesn't give two shits about license C&D's. See if you can get most Funi releases on Baka. Don't forget that AB has also stuff like games, VN's and even live action if you so choose.

Fucking this

it's partly because bakabt used to be a public tracker. they've gone private but they still treat it like a public tracker

when the FUCK does AB open for interviews?

Do people really consider streaming more convenient? My torrent client just automatically downloads episodes for me while I'm sleeping if it's for seasonal shows and if it's old stuff you'd want to get the BD versions anyway for the fixed QUALITY.

>not having easy desktop access while in bed
What is wrong with you?

This, my man. I care about credits to check who voiced the random passerbyers.
Though using creditless files at least makes some sense. I cannot forgive when they reuse the first episode OP/ED for all the episodes.

I thought BakaBT still keeps their blacklist even after they got screwed over while playing ball.

I sleep on the floor. Not proud of it.

Bootlickers will defend this.

bumping

It can look kind of weird for motion, but it's so much better for panning shots. The only reason it looks weird, too, is because we're so used to 24. I thought the Hobbit films looked great at 48 fps.

What's wrong with 720p?

>t. elitist weeb

Smaller number than 1080.

>noise reduction in an encode of a source that is already heavily noise reduced
These kinds of people deserve death.

So...
Crunchyroll subs: Good
Every other subs: weebish memes?

How American do you have to be to think nothing's wrong with watching dubbed versions?

Bloated filesize. Fuck 1080p shit.

That sounds like your problem. Let everyone with an excuse for why they can't seed do it, and you wouldnt have all the seeds that's the reason you want to use the torrent in the first place

> can download at all and still complains
Seedboxes are cheap as fuck, you know.

I'm talking about in the "morally obligated" way, not "you're blocked from downloading with a shit d/l ratio"

Yes.
20kbs DL speeds are something worth complaining about.

fucking private trackers

I used to have ~50kB upload and survived on several large private trackers for years. It's not hard at all, especially not on places like AB where you don't even actually have to manage to upload any data while seeding to maintain a ratio.

I'm an unironic dubfag, so I don't mind.

Let me say as Finnish person who was taught English as a mandatory second language, I think the English dub for OG Dragon Ball is pretty good.

might as well just buy a usenet subscription

I don't really understand seedboxes, Is there a benefit to having a really high ratio? Granted I'm only on AB and a few trackers for porn but I generally just leave them on seed and my ratios are fine.

Some people have really bad internet, some people want user classes that require lots of upload, some people use them as as pseudo-vpn for torrents, and some trackers are a lot harder to seed on. AB is piss fucking easy to maintain a ratio on. That said if you have even halfway decent home internet, and you aren't downloading a shitload of data constantly, most people can get by on their home connections.

Furthermore, I think that adult Goku have a better voice in English.

Dragon Ball is one of the few series that a large amount of people who don't typically like dubs are fine with the dub for. It's not even a particularly good dub, it's just that the Japanese version has a lot of problems. Not to mention it has nostalgia going for it.

That reminds me, didnt they used to air Swedish dub of Sailor Moon with Finnish subs in Finland for some reason?

>Not to mention it has nostalgia going for it.
This honestly feels like the biggest factor in people liking specific dubs to me. If its an older series that they saw the dub before they'd seem subbed series, and doesnt have anything massively wrong with it, they like it

wasted tbqh

Can't say for sure, but it would not surprise me if they did. Nice quints btw.

My ISP blocks/limits P2P and dht connections, so torrenting is a giant pain in my ass. Also yes, on AB is easy to maintain your ratio with freeleeches and bonus points, but pretty much any other private tracker it's much harder to do so.

just use nyaa.si

Dragon Ball has some specific things going for it that make the dub seem like a better option even for people without nostalgia for it. Notably the Japanese audio quality is fucking trash because Toei didn't keep proper audio masters.

seriously? i'm fucked then. my manga taste makes "thats not your real taste" retards start foaming at the mouth.

What's the optimal list of anime/manga for getting in? I half assed my application and still got in, so I must have slipped through the cracks

Opus is not a meme, with just 128kb/s you can get full band, high quality audio.
You need like 256kb/s with AAC for that.

There are like 3 parameters you need to learn how to use. How can people use computers for decades and still be incapable of typing a command and some options in?

youtube.com/watch?v=LLlytsgLcr4

Yellow subs are fine in themselves. The only problem is half the time they indicate that the sub is some fucking horrible ass HK sourced nonsense or equivalent.

There is no difference. The input has 8 bit color channels, the output has 8 bit color channels. It's the intermediate compressed format and calculations that are in 10 bit, making compression artifacts less noticeable for equal video bitrate.

fuck off. and tri audio is even better

ikr

yea. this buggs me
