GIRUGAMESH
It's been 10 years
GIRUGAMESH
Does anybody even go to anime conventions anymore?
GIRUGAMESH
youtu.be
>anime Expo attendance : 110,000 (2018)
I went to one last weekend.
this guy did
Dub fags go to get autographs from VAs, or fuck them, or accuse them of sexual harassment six years after they eat a jellybean.
>everyone from this video is now in their 30s or early 40s
>probably no longer interested in anime or manga
GI-GI-GI-GI-GI-GI-GI-GI-GI-RU-GA-MESH
Went to my first one this year
Pretty cringy but if you let your guard down and slighty embrace/accept it you can enjoy it while still look at shit with disgust.
I have an income now, so I'm going to Japan instead.
Wasn't this ad narrated by Vic Mignona?
Hell yes
Sakuracon is even going on this weekend
how's the original video called, can't seem to find it anywhere
Akiba is fun but boy howdy I hope you are either full jap blood or okay with being stared at in disgust the whole trip.
Salarymen are cool to drink with though. Closet Otaku often as well.
>probably no longer interested in anime or manga
They're probably actors
Where is the time going, Yea Forums?
>Akiba is fun
nibba please, nakano broadway is where its at
10 years since the last year Yea Forums had no captcha.
So is Anime Boston.
thanks
Newfag.
you came here from the pewdiepie video, go fuck yourself
>being stared at in disgust
Race is no barrier for degenerates.
Well there was 2014 /pol/, but that was more moot's revenge for gamergate then anything else.
>Generals were a mistake
>/jp/ and Yea Forums split was a mistake
>Less elitism was a mistake
/jp/ and Yea Forums split was good, but being so anal about whether something belonged in the one or the other was a mistake. They're better off as a venn-diagram with different viewing glasses on the union.
I wonder if we dropped off on the elitism because we got older and got tired, or if too many people flooded in at the same time and tricked the other newcomers into thinking ironic shitposting wasn't shitposting. And etc.
>new board called Asia/General
>bring core /jp/ stuff back (2hu, VNs, that sort) to Yea Forums
>dump everything else like idols to that Asia General board
>free Yea Forums of chinkshit and gook webtoon
Y/N?
definitely the second because as people get older they would understand why elitism is not a bad thing
instead we have threads like "what made you a weeb?" and "what should I watch with my gf?"
>because we got older and got tired, or if too many people flooded in at the same time
Why not both.
There's not much point telling people to fuck off when those people now outnumber you so you're now the bad guy. And then you get warned/banned because mods side with them.
Or maybe consider the fact that Sakura-con is this weekend and that reminded people this was 10 years ago.
>MUH PEWDIEPIE
Fuck off, laughing at this shit was a Yea Forums staple back then.
>hello it's my first day on Yea Forums here's a meme I found on kym am I fitting in yet?
can you ever stop crying about /pol/?
See >ironic shitposting is still shitposting
On top of lacking reading comprehension, you're also ignorant about why we have captcha? Go lurk for another year before your next post.
I miss Sparta remixes
Already booked for AX this July.
The ones in US? No thanks, high chance of FGO autists shooting up the place.
Gacha is truly bad civilization
>going to cons
>ever
I like it. I've been of the opinion for years that VNs and LNs should be allowed on Yea Forums, even ones without anime adaptations.
What’s wrong with wanting to hang out with people that like anime and manga like I do?
I'm going to Anime Next in I think New Jersey this Summer, then Japan next year. Never went to an anime convention before though I've been to Comic Con three times for the anime stuff since I hate capeshit.
I will be going to one next month in Minnesota
Have been going since the mid 2000s.
Remember those fucking yaoi paddles? It was a common practice to just assult someone out of quirkiness.
Not just that. He directed too.
Try that shit nowadays
Either get knocked the fuck out or kicked out.
why are fujos so fat and disgusting?
Actually it feels like it's been longer.
2009 does sound about right, though.
Went to one a few years ago mainly for an autograph. I had a lot of fun, though, and if a Japanese guest I'm interested in shows up to a con close to me, I'd probably go to that one, too.
It was awful especially when you were a teenager back then, older people would always run after you with these things especially disgusting women, they thought it was okay just because they were female and it was just " omg so random XD" and quirky. There wasn't really an outcry because majority of the people back then going to these conventions were highly autistic.
>couple of weeks ago
>notice posters of an anime con happening near me
>check their site for info on popular people visiting and events
>there was a naruto run event
guffaw
I'll see you there user
Don't shoot it up please, I'm just there to try and find stuff of my waifu.
Nakano is a hotspot of autism.
Last time I went there there was an absolutely cringeworthy autist wearing serafuku, zr, etc with his dad...
Also a pair of Americans who could barely speak Japanese working at one of the Mandarakes...
That's for normalfags.
I can't decide which of the two I hate going to the most, honestly.
This was made by asuka's voice actress and her friends.
I've been going for about 10 years, not as much as I used to though. There's a LOT of normalfags now, moreso now that cosplayers have patreons to sell nudes. Shit sucks.
Can I fuck cosplayer girls at anime conventions?
IKUMASU
What I fucked that up
Not likely, most have a bf or five. If you can't get laid outside a con it's going to be even worse at one.
Every year since 2003, and I wish more of you guys did and were running panels. There are a lot of really knowledgeable users here and the proportion of newfags at cons these days is too high for my taste.
I've only been to two, but only since 2017. I actually had plans on going to Sakuracon this year as well.
Then my dad passed away a week prior to con. I had to cancel everything.
went to commiket last summer going again this summer, the amount of people there is fucking insane
no one stared at me with disgust even when inside shops browsing for like an hour, hella foreigners at akiba too
It's comfy knowing you're in a place with people who share your personal hobby. The Anime con I went to took place where comic con did but it was a bit underwhelming since all they sold were MHA, naruto, fujo and other mainstream shit. I was expecting more or maybe I went to the wrong one.
>nibba
Fuck off.
It fucking stinks there, and you'd probably have to line up days in advance to get anything before selling out. Tell me I'm wrong.
They're too infested with normalfags now
You're retarded to have bought anything in the tourist trap that is Akiba. They set it up just for gaijins dumb enough to fall for those prices.
Wheat even is the point of western cons?
Comiket is for selling doujin.
Western cons are for... buying overpriced merch you can get online?
No, but I'm sure you'll find some nice cosplayer girls (male)
I mainly go to AX for their concerts and panels nowadays
don't know about stink because I was drenched in sweat as it was hot 200k people and no ac so I prolly did too
the selling out part is only for the commerical booths which I didn't give a shit about, all the doujins I wanted I got em
Would going to winter comiket be better than summer?
Some popular nips in the industry visit and have booths the bigger cons from what I hear.
Yes. Summer comiket is fucking awful especially if you're not used to the heat.
Autographs, panels, concerts, AMV contests, video game tournaments, etc. There's usually a lot to do.
winter is cold and windy as shit, and summer is hot and humid, pick what you care less about and go
im fine with being hot as I live in Ca so I went summer
My cousins go to the ones in New York and Boston, but I'd never go to a con. It'd feel too much like an anime club or some sort of attention whoring competition.
>sparta remix
whatyearisit.jpeg
>everyone from this video is now in their 30s or early 40s
Pretty sure they already were at the time of its making.
Sometimes, you might get anime staff from japan coming over as guests.
Yea Forums and /jp/ took sage, reporting, sagebombing, newfag shaming, thread hijacking, and just literal spaming threads too far, so moot took away all our self-moderation tools and now here we are.
Visible sage making a return would be nice, but the current admin and mod team couldn't care less about Yea Forums.
Today, I will remind them
>youtube.com
I fucking hate the idea of being around so many people at once, the one (non-anime) con I went to was just hanging around in huge crowds of strangers to get advertised to, I absolutely hated it
I live in the dfw area so my brother and I like to walk around A-kon to see the cosplayers and any semi interesting panels that might be happening. That's it though. I'm not one of these people who will drive across the state just to go to a convention in houston or wherever.
Been to two, last one I went to was around 2013 Cool places but I really don't like crowded places but that's to be expected I guess.
youtube.com
Where are they now?
nyaa~
PAUL YOU OWE ME MONE-
What dimension was he sucked into?
Hello there, fellow 9 years old fren
t. newfaggot
wtf is the japanese guy saying in this? it sounds like he says "gikimasu"
Wha- i just want fren
I just got back from one earlier.
>mfw scored a fucking noriko figure
>you will NEVER EVER go to otakon again and enjoy a Yea Forums panel without having to worry about /pol/ or Yea Forums
>you will NEVER EVER see moot speak at otakon
Maybe he thought you meant
>Hello, fellow 9 year old
instead of
>Hello, friend from 9 years ago
Even then 2010 kids are still newfags
>they might be dead for all we know
Depends on where you live, in the eastern hemisphere anime cons are not as cringy as in the west and they are considered a "must go" event, especially if you have a circle of friends who are into anime or cosplay.
AND GAYMEN
completely agree. and comic market is another thing altogether
Comic con tier shilling and ticket prices, plus they've always been far too dub centric since their genesis is early licenced crap. You'd get one translated panel with an actual Japanese industry person for every 20 that were purely 'hurr talk to the dub guy durr'
I understand conventions are all about selling but it's really lost its soul a decade ago.
Of course, but I implore you to reconsider.
I befriended one of the chinks that sells mangas at my local biyearly con so he gives me free shit when I buy his stuff. It's cheaper than my local store (not counting used goods ofc).
Outside of that there really isn't much point. There's interesting panels with industry figures sometimes (I went to the one featuring Kawamoto a couple years ago, it was nice), but outside of that it's filled with french e-celebs that I despise, and half the time they aren't even related to anime, it's crazy. There's no point going there anymore.
wow
I work there, if that counts.
Are you sure it's the normalfags that are paying for cosplay porn though
my condolences
Honestly the elitism saved this board from the brunt of everything thrown at this site as whole during the past few years. It's not perfect, sure, but compared to some of the other boards it's pretty much fine.
>Some popular nips in the industry visit and have booths the bigger cons from what I hear.
This. Yoshitoshi Abe came to a con in my city.
Unfortunately that con was Crunchyroll Expo
rock-chan reminds me of another creature from the depths
Obviously. I mean, you wouldn't want to be there with them, but people do attend.
At least a couple of times every year. Only the comfy conventions held by communities/clubs and ones that has performers I like.
Don't know about others but I sure don't. I refused to go to any anime convention until 2017 when I got invited to Anime Expo by some guys.
>6 hour line
>facebook FBI meme jokes were at its peak
>shit anime
>shit fans
>shit staff
>shit pizza
Never going to any anime related event ever again.
Did one of them say gay bang?
These are great, thanks for sharing anons
BURN THE WITCH
I went to Supanova last weekend
>2009
>watch that sakuracon video
>get curious about Girugamesh, download an album
>get hooked on it, it becomes my favorite band
>mfw they disbanded in 2016
AMATERASU
This one is beautifully written.
I still think that he looks like some kind of bird of prey, or the gothic offspring of The Penguin.
Girugamesh, when the walls fell
i'd be scared to go to any "gatherings" in the US. some white boy will come along and shoot up the place
Holy shit a good roll chart
>Implying dub actors actually care about anime
Most dub actors use anime as a stepping stone to get into the vidya industry
>tfw go to anime cons to try to get a cute weeb gf but still cant get one
its not fair bros
I go to the one in my area cause my friends invite me. I’m glad they did because that how I dicovered an incredibly knowledgeable Gunpla community in my area.
>okay with being stared at in disgust the whole trip.
I'll take "people that have never been to Japan" for $200 please
People talk about how far Yea Forums has fallen from what it was
Sure they're right but at least we're not Yea Forums
That's how my first con went. I enjoyed it with a fair bit of cringe.
Project A-Kon just keeps getting bigger and bigger, so yes.
> go to con
> cringey af
> chat to some girls
> way to out there for my taste
> go to university
> meet cute nerdy girl on third day
> we hit it off
> find out she is a huge weeb
> seasonal watcher, konan otaku, studying Japanese
> jackpot.jpg
> get to know her a little better
> find out she is 17
> just waiting for her to hit 18 before I make my move
Aside from the konan references, she is pretty amazing.
What's the appeal of conventions? You pay to get in and it's just a bunch of stalls trying to sell me crap I could likely get on Amazon for half the price. Last time I went a lot of the merch was fucking bootleg at that. If you want to meet a "famous" person you need to pay again and wait in line with the dregs of society for 2 hours. I really don't get it
Wait what, really? That's him?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAA IM SO JEALOUS
ive been here too long lads. time is slipping away. has slipped away.
Young people are dumb.
I went to one nine years in a row. Thanks God I barely go outside the room now.
I can't imagine what I will be doing in my 50 or 60's.
Being here in my 30's already feel awkward and somehow inappropiate.
fourtunately there are plenty of oldfags still here in the same boat, people in their late 20's early 30's. what. the real issue is if Yea Forums ever dies in the future and some zoomer shit takes over. Then we'll truly be the alienated vagrants of the internet.
>Being here in my 30's already feel awkward and somehow inappropiate.
Where else are we supposed to go?
I've been here for 14 years, I'm 30, I don't even know where the fuck I should go outside one of the obscure chans I sometime lurk, but it's mostly dead like all the obscure chans.
When Yea Forums croaks for real I'll probably forget about the internet entirely outside of e-mail and some IRL stuff like getting tickets for travelling and whatever else, it's not like the modern corporate internet is worth much for someone like me.
>take job at Japanese company
>95% of the Japs working there are chainsmoking salarymen
Where are the OLs?
Good luck user hope you guys are well!
Not even kidding, but I wouldn't be surprised if 4chin shut down we'd have a short burst of an heroes and kamikazi terror attacks worldwide. Even if newfags treat the place like edgy leddit pic fucking related, us olderfags really are just fucking stuck here; the last piece of somewhat dry land above an ocean of shit (even if that dry land is ever receeding into the brown waters)
What with Infin likely shutting down this year and 420chan announcing that it might be going to go under because Kirt wasted his server money on weed/becoming a normalfag, the site is only going to become more isolated. The only 'major' minor english speaking chan left at this point is Lain, and even then it was always the smallest of the major chans.
anme cons don't exist anymore, it is just a bunch of youtube ecelebs
this
>anime voice actors are not anime-related
Bringing in Japanese guests is expensive
>okay with being stared at in disgust the whole trip.
You must be fugly, when i when to Tokyo all the locals are minding their own business straight ahead to the trains they will catch to
I don't really think people actually understand Tonegawa's speech, especially not when it's taken out of context like this.
The vast majority of people seem to believe that Tonegawa is giving some kind of epic truthpill when they fail to understand where Tonegawa's coming from, what kind of person he is and a lot of other things like his personal idea of how people are.
Tonegawa is a corporate misanthrope working as a scout for an illegal pseudo gladiator show made for the sadistic pleasure of a bunch of degenerate elites, his commentary on people is actually pretty jarring and one of the parts where FKMT's writing kinda went to shit for the sake of pulling off some kind of epic speech.
If Tonegawa really did care about supposedly saving people and was that human he wouldn't partake into something like that, fact is Tonegawa's speech shows more how jaded, naive and hypocritical he is rather than giving some kind of deeper insight into human behaviour in general, especially when according to him all the supposed misfortune of those people's lives are attributed to them (very japanese way of thinking) and a supposed innate weakness of character and not the shitty environment they live in which crushed their lives into dust, which is also a general theme of Kaiji's own life.
I don't really think Tonegawa is supposed to be taken positively here, as if he's giving some kind of sound advice or anything, yet a lot of people seem to think so.
>university
>17
Something doesn't add up here. Also
>waiting
Enjoy your used goods.
gnfos and ota are still good
Things are going downhill, at least Yea Forums hangs on to it's elitism and isn't accepting everything retards try to force. Once Yea Forums disappears we'll have to deal with all the mediocrity that overpopulation brings. The internet is not as free and pure like in the past and it'll continue to become an extension of the real world, with all the regulations and people that change their image to make money. I hope that there will be clones that try to mimic the freedom that Yea Forums gives but with a small userbase and the influence of secondaries it will probably turn out like most circlejerks on boards like /vg/. At least it will be better than any other social media platform, it's only the thought of having a place to return that scares me.
>anymore
>ever going to public place
NORMAL
I do. Even moved to city where my favorite one is held. It wasn't the only reason, but a reason nonetheless. Then again, it's age restricted so that people under 18 can't enter and they always have actual japanese industry workers as GoH every time. You americans have shitty cons
All that's left for me is browsing futaba honestly. That place feels like a vestige of the old internet.
A large portion of the population internalizes the "it's my own fault I'm poor" narrative though, and genuinely believes that rich people got there through effort. It's no surprise the scene goes over their heads.
Asuka's english VA is a megafan of Asuka, so I bet she still cares. In fact I think she was upset they didn't recast her as Asuka for the new netflix english dub.
It'd be fine if pic related assaulted me.
human refuse
protohumans would kill themselves if they knew this were to come
22 or bust
I actually remember this one!
