My read on it is that she was the only one of the Bebop’s crew who confronted her past, was able to move on, and finally wanted to look for a new life on the Bebop. Spike got trapped by his past and died for it, while Jet was just happy to keep things as they were.

That’s part of the fun, though. By the time she was actually ready to become a fully fledged member of the Bebop, Spike had already fucked offed to find Julia and the whole world was phasing out the way of life she had just picked up. So she effectively lost her home all over again.
