I'm reading just started the VN recently and currently reading through Fate route. There's point where Sakura is defending Shinji telling Shirou not to get mad at him since that's his only friend. Why would she be doing this? Stockholm syndrome? Is this going to be explained later in her route?

The great things about the antagonists of Fate is that they aren't just evil, they are possessive and shitty (mostly to women, like Gil and Shinji) and the heroes treat people (especially women) very well. I've always felt the Fate girls were good female characters and sort of empowered women.

Shirou's "misogyny" is some of most overstated ideologically charged bullshit ever. The point about isn't that he's being "sexist" to the girls but needs an excuse to be the one in the thick of the action risking his ass for others. That aside, a few loose screws nonewithstanding, the dude is a gentleman and, like most guys, he sees girls as girls and doesn't want them to get hurt, especially not want them getting ripped to shreds by some roidmonster for his sake.
