I guess I'm mainly wondering if it's simple, or if I'm better off sticking with what I know: whatever pops up on Amazon. I don't order many figures, just the occasional one here and there.

If you live in the US I don't think you have to worry about customs. It might seem intimidating but it really isn't. I get almost everything off of AmiAmi, and what I can't get on AmiAmi, I just consult the guide for and use my judgment on.

If you buy from otakumode, you'll be laughed at. Buyfag FAQ also talks about how they scam. For someone entry level, that will be a nightmare because you have to calculate a whole lot to avoid being ripped off there.

True, I find them a safe format for a big, everlasting autograph, though fans who prefer a more worthwhile and interconnected impression would like to have them on posters, book covers, or figure bases instead. It boils down to different preferences, but I like to think shikishi boards are a standard "fine" for all purposes of display.

the blank boards also look nice and clean in almost any display. I don't think I've ever seen a display that includes them that isn't complemented by them.
