Anime as a whole got a pretty big influx of new eyes earlier this decade, and in the following years any light novel with a popular enough anime got licensed. We've just entered the phase where publishers feel comfortable enough to start licensing the more obscure stuff, because Light Novel readers nowadays will read just about anything labeled a "Light Novel".

That said, I can see the current trend dying out quickly due to over saturation. It's already nearing the point that there are more volume releases than there are days in a month.

Yeah there are a lot more time travel works, but there's normal isekai as well. My pure fun favorites are long live summons and heavenly star. For something that's high quality, daoist gu is probably the most well-written isekai I've ever read.

The overall plot is still very generic. The MC got special power and got himself a harem (yes a vending machine got a harem).
What's different is the author actually used the premise and tried to do something inventive with it. Like other Yea Forumsnons mentioned, many isekai would have a MC that turned into a human very quickly. Not this one, he actually had to defeat monsters as a vending machine.

The bigger problem with slime is that he is ridiculously OP. I love how people excused that by saying "there are still beings stronger than him", and those beings are basically only Demon Lords, Dwarf King, and a handful of mythic creatures. Should have focused on suriving as weak slime via politics and building town and economy, kinda like Log Horizon where Shiroe even at level cap can't do shit on his own in battle because his class is suited to be only support, and he gets things done by strategy, tactics, and pulling strings behind the curtains.

That's just your preference though. Also those "handful of characters" actually get some long-term relevancy instead of being immidietly thrown out only to be replaced by the next villain of the week.
In addition rising the bar has the positive side-effect of being able to have the side-characters scale along and have their own battle instead of being "MC-kun's solo adventure who needs to save his teammates asses every time".
And the best is that "third parties" in Slime can win too, unlike most other series where everyone easily jobs to the main antagonist.
The LN version actually improves that even further, to the point that appearently even in the RAWs, it's still not clear who the main antagonist. There are actually hints (and author's word) that it might be someone different from the one in the WN version.

His newer novel isn't as great (still a great first 100 chapters I'd say), the author is deliberately inserting in chinese nationalism crap a couple times probably because of his experience with the censorship. No kingdom building (yet?) but it's only 150 chapters in. Even the MC in TotR didn't actually start out conquering shit until 100 chapters in, not that the initial arcs weren't satisfying reads either.

If you want something beyond that, then you probably have to look into the alternate history genre in western novels or even general fantasy because I don't think any other genres go as autistic with their worldbuilding.

for what it's worth, it gets axed when the power wanking was getting stale anyways. The final arc before it got axed basically dealt with the largest threat thus far, and it was smooth sailing from there to whatever target he wanted to pick on next
The author put too much focus on the kingdom building it was hard to go back to the whole ancient magi civilization backstory again (hence his new novel focusing more on ancient magic shit).

I'd definitely say it's worth a try despite it getting axed so that should say something. The synopsis on NU is really awful, it's definitely stands out from the usual chinkshit that I'm surprised it has such mixed ratings (probably because people expecting chinkshit suddenly get a more western-style plot).
It has a more western/medieval setting, but unlike RtW or the Amber sword, it almost reads like a western novel too especially with how it starts with the story starts with the MC barging into a tavern (as long as you can look past the author writing summaries instead of a story, I think this is a chinese translation thing since other chinkshit also suffer from ignoring "show, not tell" completely)

It keeps it from the story going stale as quick since it's basically multiple reincarnations consecutively, restart all over again one the plot's done and you just summarize the rest of their lifetime, and then it's on to the next world/life with a whole new powerwank segment again.

The stories usually focus on the MC so it manages to hide that, and there are occasionally other recurring characters somehow depending on the plot (usually the "normal" reincarnation where it's just the same soul but no memories, but occasionally others where it's hinted it's the same person somehow)
I would not recommend reading any of these transmigration novels unless you were really bored and out of cheap material to read
