First of all, let me say that both are great battle manga that stand above anything else. But Hunter X Hunter is better by far. JoJo's strong points are having good variety in character abilities and the fights are smart, but it recycles the same formula too much. Introduce a new stand user, the protagonists fight and defeat the stand user, rinse and repeat. The actual story isn't very deep.

Also, JJBA monster/villain of the week formula just doesn't age well and so many of the fights can be considered filler. With that said Part 8 is trying to fix that (where almost every fight/encounter has something to contribute to the story), but HxH just outshines JJBA when it comes to story and character.

JoJo has decent fights but HxH shits over most of Jojo in terms of character investment and plot except for Part 7, where it seems that the fights are a consequence of the story rather than the other way around.

Overall HxH is the better manga.

I'm on chapter 89 and the only good things that i liked about it is the hunter exam, Hisoka's fights and Kurapika. also, im pretty sure Nen was created because Togashi didnt knew what the fuck he should do about the series.
but again, i havent catched up yet, so my opinion might change.

Mainly because of the part 4 anime and that whenever they needed a narrator to freak out, Koichi was the one to scream.

We don't hear Gyro's thoughts often so most of the narration comes from Johnny so I just can't help but relate him to Koichi and I hate it.

Part 5 had the best of it because everyone would keep switching narratives but this also meant Giorno is the shittiest party member because we never, ever hear his thoughts outside of the first introduction chapters.

An asspull would've been if in the very last chapter of the fight against the boss, Polnareff used the power of Christ to stand up from his wheelchair and thrusted his arrow into Giorno to give him a power-up with 0 explanation beforehand. Stand Arrows powering up Stands has been established previously in DiU so it didn't come out of nowhere at all, if anything Pol's explanation was much needed after how the arrow was used in DiU.

As one of the few surviving Stardust Crusaders still in prime health, it makes sense that he'd still be involved in dealing with the aftermath of DIO's actions like Jotaro did in part 4. By definition, the requiem arrow was set-up as a checkhov's gun and was used later on to achieve the victory. Was it unsatisfying? Personally I don't think so as it led to a pretty poetic thematic victory, tying the part's themes directly into the downfall of the villain by having Diavolo face the hard-counter for his ideology that simply because he has the power, he isn't bound by fate unlike the rest of the cast of part 5, a theme that was continued on and elaborated literally all throughout the part. Thematically it isn't an asspull and it doesn't rob the story of anything, all it "robs" the part of is an epic fist-fight clash at the end, so no I don't see the issue and I don't think it's an asspull because it was actually set-up beforehand. You can stretch the definition as much as you like but you're trying to push your subjective thoughts as if they're factual definitions.
