Samurai 8 (author: Masashi Kishimoto - Naruto, art: Akira Okubo) will begin serialization on the May 13 issue of Jump - first issue of the new Reiwa period in Japan.

Jump doesn't have the patience to do a proper sports series anymore. Sports are all about the build, but Jump needs immediate popularity or a series gets the axe. It'll probably be years before another one stick, and it'll only be because HQ is winding down.

Chainsaw Man, Act-Age and Last Saiyuki. Those are worth following these days.

So I recently picked up Kimetsu no Yaiba hoping that it'd be a cool shounen series to pick up. I'm really enjoying the new wave of Shounen manga. It seems like the "old guard" of Shounen battle manga are slowly coming to an end. New series like "The Promised Neverland, MyHeroAcademia, Dr.Stone, etc." are doing a fantastic job at providing a variety in stories. However, I can't say the same for the series Demon Slayer (AKA Kimetsu No Yaiba).

I'm surprised by what I read. Here's my problems with the series:
The author has a very poor understanding of how to tell a story. The plot isn't really the problem, but the real issue is the execution in presenting the story. I've always held the mentality that a generic story/idea can always redeem itself if it's told well. Demon Slayer however does not have a good execution of storytelling. The main character's>! family pretty much dies very early on. But the portrayal of the family's death was done terribly. The characters were not even fleshed out, so when you did see the main character weeping for his family, it was hard to give a shit. This is because the readers can't connect with characters that were never developed in the first place. !<

Not to mention, the dialogue is very poorly written. So not only did the author fail at telling his story, but he also failed in making believable/interesting conversations between the characters.

It makes me think, does this series even have an editor? Was there no one that told the author "Look man, this demon slaying story has been done a thousand times over in the manga industry over the years. Your series does not do anything to distinguish itself from the competition (mind you, far better competition like YuYuHakusho, Inuyasha, Bleach, Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan)." Did no editor at Shonen Jump Weekly point this out? There are series made 10+ years ago that do more justice to the demon slaying genre. And that's my biggest problem with this series. It feels like it came out 10+ years too late. If this came out a decade ago, I don't think I would've minded as much. But the manga industry has seen great improvements over the years, and I can't believe this series is even allowed to exist in the current Weekly SJ line-up. From what I've read, it's so below the standard of a great Shounen series.

Act Age is my favorite one of jump right now. Read it till the death island and if you still don't like then drop it.
I personally enjoy the art.

Juju is pretty average until about the 3rd arc with this one emo kid then it gets better as the fights start to feature more interesting abilities and combinations.

The story before and during that arc also had a tendency to jump around at times, feeling like you'd missed a chapter or something. That's been fixed though and the current arc has the best teamup I've seen in a while.

I can't fathom how Boruto, a such horribly written pile of garbage, allowed to be present in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump, a magazine I uesd to respect for their strict rule of quality control. Every author is doing their best every issue to write something interesting, not only to please the fans as well as the editorial department, but also to satisfy the author's own standards for a thought-provoking storyline. But even after all of this efforts spent by the hard working authors, many manga still end up concluding prematurely because of the tough competition, yet a the utterly boring manga called Boruto is allowed to continue. Boruto itself is a failure, that can't live on its own merit, simply a shit-stain that smears all over Naruto's legacy, with no signs of coherent storytelling or well crafted art. Ikemoto himself is a complete flop of an artist, that only got his ideas rejected until he decided to ride the success of another mangaka, he's incapable of providing anything resembling a good manga, his paneling is nothing short of terrible, dialogue that does nothing but damage the writing of the characters, hideous art that is hurting to look at, and last but not least, he isn't even capable to keep up with a weekly schedule. He has done nothing but damage the property he was handed on a silver platter, and thus he shouldn't be allowed to continue in a magazine full of genius authors doing nothing but their best.

Also Boruto does nothing but cost them money, all the profits made are the result of rebranding Naruto merch to Boruto, yet the sales keeps decreasing with no signs of recovering.

The anime has only adapted about 3 volumes in 2 years.
