Rewatching the series for the game (and that last I saw it was years ago) and man it's way better than what I remember even with it's flaws. It's a 7/10 but the rawest 7 possible.
Kill la Kill
It's balls to the wall crazy and I love it
same for me honestly, i used to not like the characters too much (always loved dummy cute mako from the start though) but on rewatch i really loved almost all of them, love that satsuki has the subtle soft loving side and that her 4 devas are simultaneously badasses and huge dorks
WOW GOD HAS SPOKEN AND DELIVERED HIS SACRED JUDGMENENT! BOW DOWN BEFORE HE PUNISHES US ALL
I remember not being too jazzed about it when I first saw it ages back, probably because I was still subconsciously comparing it to TTGL (which I had rewatched after KLK) but now so many years removed I can appreciate it way more on it's own and fuck I love it for real.
And also truly made me hyped for the game even if it's an arena fighter. I really hope the story doubles down on Elite 4 banter and actually build Satsuki and Ryuko relationship properly.
it was never gonna live up to TTGL (ironically i finished that recently long after having watched KLK) but the theme in KLK i liked was that hype nonsense is beautiful, which definitely itself was alluding to that passion from gainax days and particularly to TTGL
It's way better than TTGL, because I could enjoy all the KLK episodes greatly, while I remember TTGL having some shitty ones.
They should fuck. I want to see them fuck.
I'll give you that TTGL had much more in dull moments but as someone who ranks KLK highly, i still gotta say the hype and characters and culmination of the story were a better package in TTGL. and also this is coming from someone whos neither a mechafag nor diehard oldfag about TTGL since I only recently saw it and its pretty much the only mecha anime i fully watched
>It's way better than TTGL
Nope.
>because I could enjoy all the KLK episodes great
KLK had a lot of worthless episodes in retrospect and the entirety of the middle portion is unwatchable.
Even with it's dull episodes TTGL is still more consistent while still giving out high hype moments. And the emotional writing is better. But if you just want a really fucking good line of cocaine then KLK is still fantastic.
>actually build Satsuki and Ryuko relationship properly.
And by this I absolutely mean make siscon Satsuki canon.
While I do think TTGL is better than KLK as a whole without doubt, I still like KLK more because I actually like it's characters while TTGL didn't really have many good ones, Kamina, Simon and Viral. That's it.
>shit taste: the post
Too much filler.
KLK is more fun on a moment-to-moment basis, which I value a lot more than to be honest. The plot and Simon's growth was great don't get me wrong, but once you know the key transformative points there's not a whole lot to it aside from the broad human evolution theme. As cliched as they are, I think the conflicts in Kill la Kill are a lot more engaging. It's also a lot more visually creative in my opinion, though it doesn't have as much actual sakuga as TTGL.
fuck off sushio
i dont see how the main klk character growths are supposed to be any better than the main ttgl ones if thats what youre trying to say. as for conflicts they really just boiled down to the same "toss out common sense and get stronger just because" which definitely was better in ttgl
Seen it four times so far. Still a 10/10. Really the only flaw for me is Tsumugu's storyline fizzles out. TTGL's still better though.
Yeah I hate how Tsumugu just became fodder after his introduction. His fighting style was pretty cool.
And he's not even in the game.
No I'm not saying it has better or more growth, but Ryoko is a way more engaging character than Simon because while she does have to learn similar things, she doesn't have to begin at square one like Simon did and already has a defining personality. Her motivation is the immediate driving force of the plot, while in TTGL it's mostly the growth itself and the circumstances.
Even the writers knew he wasn't given the best material.
>Not supporting the designer's glorious vision.
shortsuki is cute!! CUTE!!
The last good Trigger anime.
That's Gridman, just a few months ago.
TTGL was only watchable pre-timeskip, and even then there were filler episodes. Everything after that was nothing but bitter disappointment that could never live up to the expectations from the prologue.
Redpill me on this. All I know is that Satsuki yelling out to Ryuko at the end was ad-libbed and Sushio apparently also fostering that idea.
The timeskip was kino tho. The sharp change of pace was very well done.
Only good thing about Gridman was all the Rikka art it spawned.
Low IQ post.
i dont get how there are so many people who wanted the show to end with lordgenome, the hypest shit by far was in the second part and the first part was basically to set up those moments
whoever thought of it did good, one of my favorite satsuki moments where she finally totally loses her cool because of love for her cute imouto
>Shitman
>good
...
We don't see nearly enough of that and I desperately hope the game pushes for more of that, since Ragyo drops into the school way earlier in the story so the whole daughter/sister reveal could be done by then and have more time to develop their sisterly bonds.
Siscon-Satsuki gradually picked up steam during production, and as far as we know is a bit of an open secret elbow-nudge supported under the table by various members of production despite, and also partly in thanks to, the "official stance" on most interpersonal relationships being "read into whatever you want".
The original VA massively helped push for it and Dub VA both supported it and went even further with the now famous blooper reel; "Go ahead, have your date, just remember I give a mean blowjob" line which dipped into true ship territory. Sushio's art when it does include the sisters together has supported it because he personally waifu's Mako super hard which drives a wedge between him and RyukoMako shippers, and the various artists who were responsible for filling in backgrounds and details also somewhat created the MakoGamagori stuff which again aligns them with anyone supporting pulling Ryuko away from her. Nakashima the writer gave his blessings for things like the space catch scream and some small things that ended up being cut from the OVA's run time outlining how after the battle the two sisters moved into the Tower ruin alone to work things out/learn about each other properly for that month time skip, which was why at the end Nonon asked Satsuki if she was okay with Ryuko now moving to Rinne to complete HS with Mako. Though he very often just deflects away from all questions related to interpersonal relationships of the cast in general when asked. There are other small nods, but I don't remember them off the top of my head.
every time i watch that ending scene with nonon asking "is this alright" i get taken aback with satsukis answer because i keep thinking nonon was asking about rei
>ok yes satsuki i guess its alright for ryuuko to move to a different school but i think i meant the crazy bitch who was about to kill us all about 20 minutes ago
>some small things that ended up being cut from the OVA's run time outlining how after the battle the two sisters moved into the Tower ruin alone to work things out/learn about each other properly for that month time skip
God I would've loved to see a proper heart to heart between them after all that nonsense.
Thanks for the info tho! I damn hope they do get expanded upon in the game's story even if I'm a ride or die RyuMako shipper
Nonon's displeasure for Rei was in her facial expression changing to sour, which is why Satsuki denoted she was talking about Rei in the first response by tilting her head toward the woman and affirmed that they were taking her with them. After which came the matter of Ryuko departing that needed to be addressed.
It sucks that they never really got anything like it on screen. If nothing else it was well earned after everything.
Scissor-sisters to the bitter end. Different strokes and all that though.
Is there an imgur album of all the RyuSatsu sushio art? There's too much to go through on his Twitter even just going through his media tab.
You mean his vision of Ryuko and Mako constantly going out on dates?
>tfw i ship all of satsuryu, ryumako, and gamako
they uhhh all share in my mind
I want to give Satuski my raw 7
The vast majority of his art is Mako-centric already because of his obsession with her. One can fully expect him to include her "canon bff" that lives with her for the majority of the show in the snapshots of their daily lives, and any other excuse to make more Mako art at all. His answers during panels though break from the company's official line in his rather open refusal of Ryuko and Mako being in a deeper relationship though.
Nui was best!
>Satsuki yelling out to Ryuko at the end was ad-libbed
Where did this come from, anyway? That scene is in the original script.
That's dumb. Just make an AU for each one.
It's in the script book which is a complete script of the show + extra notes and cut material, but at a panel or interview Yuzuki was a part of the told how the episode was originally supposed to end with the shot of Ryuko's half covered by hair face while falling fading to black. Which we got, but then you see the light flash? The cast all recorded from a single large sound stage room with a tv showing a rough cut of what was happening so they could play off that and each other, and as she watched it happen she was "moved by great emotional feeling toward Ryuko and cried out suddenly". Everyone agreed it was too fitting to cut it from the reel, and the original end too dark in its unsatisfying open ended-ness, so they pitched a script change back up to Nakashima and the creative board for the show. He agreed which forced the studio to make the rest of the drop, the catch, and the naked dogpile. Because of this last minute work the other now famous bit of trivia came about which is (I bleieve) stated in the "making of DVD part 2", the ink on the frames they were making for that bit was still drying only a couple hours before the final episode was set to air on TV.
He is playable alongside Mikisugi with that double robot thing they had in the last episode.
I hated this show my first time, but for some reason I really want to re-watch it and I'm hyped for the game.
The problem is that most of the cast become utterly worthless.
>, but Ryoko is a way more engaging character than Simon because while she does have to learn similar things, she doesn't have to begin at square one like Simon
What? If anything Ryoko's development kept on resetting to the point where it just made her unlikable and then writer came up with the genius idea of making her special just because which did nothing to make her more interesting. Simon's development, much like the show itself, acted like a spiral in which it just kept expanding and expanding until it reached the point where it was time to move on and its kind of ironic how the thesis of TTGL went against KLKs .
Do it. I was like that (tho less hate and more indifference) but I just came out loving the fuck out of it and extra hyped for the game.
>KLK is more fun on a moment-to-moment basis, which I value a lot more than to be honest.
Hence why its not really as fondly remember as TTGL
The flaws became much more obvious from the second viewing and only made it apparent that they were just making shit up as they went along. The first half is pretty pointless which is a shame since its much enjoyable than the second. The cast are incredibly underutilized despite having great designs and personalities and the less said about the story the better. If I gave it an 8/10 before it would be a 7/10.
Maybe hate is too strong a word for how I felt, but I just was turned off by how obnoxious it was and felt like it took itself way too seriously for how silly of a premise the whole thing is. Looking back I appreciate the uniqueness and absurdity and going in knowing what to expect might change my opinion of it.
I'm skimming through my behind the scenes rip, and I can't seem to find what you're describing.
i had the same exact thoughts when i first followed the original run and then came around to love it all on rewatch. this show really does tend to rub people the wrong way at first, but by the last few episodes i was already coming around on the original run once i was settled into the insanity. and on rewatch it really does help to already be prepared, then you can really just appreciate the absurdity that much better
What are you talking about? The collected script isn't the final version. There are lots of differences between it and actual episode, but the catch was always there. Satsuki's scream as she was running towards Ryuko specifically could have been ad-libbed, but Satsuki running to catch her, and Mako, the Elite Four, the Mankanshokus, etc. supporting Satsuki, and the "okaeri" exchange, was always part of the plan. Nakashima's notes doesn't mention anything like what you're describing either.
>The problem is that most of the cast become utterly worthless.
That's wrong, though.
>Ryoko's development kept on resetting
Stating something like that means fundamentally not understanding the character and paying no attention to all the details and foreshadowing.
>and then writer came up with the genius idea of making her special just because which did nothing to make her more interesting.
The reveal of her true nature merely escalated and exacerbated traits that were there all along and weren't properly resolved until the point.
>its kind of ironic how the thesis of TTGL went against KLKs .
I don't think you understood the show.
>The flaws became much more obvious from the second viewing and only made it apparent that they were just making shit up as they went along.
The opposite is true, since you're not overwhelmed anymore by the constant over the top barrage of informations the show throw at you and you can focus on what actually happens and what it means.
Based!
>That's wrong, though.
Its not. Tsumugus introduction episode, Monkey's episode and any episode pretaiing to the school are worthless.
>Stating something like that means fundamentally not understanding the character and paying no attention to all the details and foreshadowing.
You could have just shorten this to "NO U" and it would have conveyed the same meaning.
>The reveal of her true nature merely escalated and exacerbated traits that were there all along and weren't properly resolved until the point.
Wrong. Also they don't really add to anything or make herself an interesting character. The revelation of her being Satsuki's sister does nothing because there's not enough time to delve into it, her being a super special hybrid does nothing for her character and it doesn't help that she becomes really insufferable during her emo period when all the characters are just trying to survive hence why she stupidly got herself captured making everyone's job more difficult. When I first watched this I wondered why everyone didn't care about her but I can see why that's the case.
>I don't think you understood the show.
I don;t think you have a point to make.
I know that the explanation of the change isn't in that it was from a panel or group interview, I don't remember if the ink trivia bit and final crunch time was or wasn't in the second dvd. Going to pull it out and double check. Have some stills from whatever the source was though of the staff's viewing the final aired episode on TV in the office.
The problem is it was in an extra interview or something and I can't remember for the life of me which it was. Unfortunately it's been 5 years since the show ended and things like these TLs were scattered all over blogs and forums as well, half of which have since been killed. And google isn't being helpful.
I was never overwhelmed to begin with. KLK is not a well-written show in the slightest and people pointed out its flaws while it was airing. The problem is the hypebeasts for that show were obnoxious as hell and drowned out any criticism by spouting memes all the time. Now that people hae taken time to analysis it they realize that it was not that great of a show.
>Its not. Tsumugus introduction episode, Monkey's episode and any episode pretaiing to the school are worthless.
Tsumugu's episode introduced Nudist Beach, anti life fiber weaponry, and brought Ryuko and Senketsu together as friends. Sanageyama's episode gives him a character arc, properly introduces three star uniforms, introduced Ragyo, highlights the differences between Senkestu and Junketsu, and sets up one of the greatest jokes in the show.
That whole part of the show where she rejects everyone is because of her lineage (Ragyo and Nui). Her accepting someone who is a part of that (Satsuki) doesn't make her development all that simple. Not to mention Satsuki also develops greatly from this.
I love Kill La Kill for the art direction alone
>Its not. Tsumugus introduction episode,
Episode 5 is when Ryuko started seeing Senketsu as a person instead of just as a tool to fullfil her purpose, and they started bonding. It was also the episode where the concept of "Can humans and clothing coexist as equals without one overtaking the other?", important narrative and thematic point of the whole show.
>Monkey's episode
Episode 6 showcased exactly what was the relationship between Satsuki and the Devas at that point. Despite being her most trusted and loyal subordinates, Satsuki saw them as nothing more than tools and was ready to throw them away as the first sign of defiance and failure. This is followed up in many smaller scenes after, like the end of the duel in episode 15 and the suicide pact in episode 17, before her mindset and the way she treats people change.
It also foreshadowed the events of episode 7 with Satsuki aggressively bringing in more life fibers.
>and any episode pretaiing to the school are worthless.
Do you need me to go though every episode, explaining why and how that isn't true?
>You could have just shorten this to "NO U" and it would have conveyed the same meaning.
Okay, try saying when does her development reset, and I'll explain what you didn't understand.
>Also they don't really add to anything or make herself an interesting character.
I already answered to this: "The reveal of her true nature merely escalated and exacerbated traits that were there all along and weren't properly resolved until the point." Do I need to explain what that means in detail? The rest is you not understaing the character like I already suspected.
>I don;t think you have a point to make.
One of the main themes of the story is moving on. It makes the point extremely clear in episode 25, but it was already obvious to anyone who was paying attention.
>KLK is not a well-written show in the slightest
Why?
>and people pointed out its flaws while it was airing.
When it was airing people believed that the world where it took place was an AU where Hitler won WW2, because of an inexplicable misundertaning of the first scene of the show, so that isn't really indicative of anything.
>Tsumugu's episode introduced Nudist Beach, anti life fiber weaponry
Thus highlighting how worthless it is. Thanks for proving my point.
>nd brought Ryuko and Senketsu together as friends.
That episode didn't do that.
>Sanageyama's episode gives him a character arc
WHICH GOES NOWHERE and he is syill a joke character throughout the damn show anyways.
>properly introduces three star uniforms
>introduces Ragyo
Not really
>highlights the differences between Senkestu and Junketsu
You mean that dropped plotine?
>That whole part of the show where she rejects everyone is because of her lineage (Ragyo and Nui)
Which doesn't make anysense and is just a waste of time because all she does is makes even more trouble and is unapologetic for it.
>Not to mention Satsuki also develops greatly from this.
She doesn't.
>Episode 5 is when Ryuko started seeing Senketsu as a person
She never didn't see him as anything but a person since their introduction. so the episode is just a reiteration of what we already know.
>Episode 6 showcased exactly what was the relationship between Satsuki and the Devas at that point
Which is also not needed because the previous episodes established this and it doesn't really delve much substantially mroe than the episodes that came after it.
>Do you need me to go though every episode, explaining why and how that isn't true?
So I can prove why you're wrong?
>Okay, try saying when does her development reset,
Literally after the episode its revealed that she's related to Ragyo and Nui
>I already answered to this: "
You didnt't.
>One of the main themes of the story is moving on
This isn't true either. For someone's who;s a KLK expert you managed to flub that up.
>Why?
The show was written on the fly and it shows since things happen moment to moment with no sense of cohesiveness. This wouldn't be a bad thing if it was a silly off the wall show but when it tried to be serious is where it falls apart entirely hence why it feels like a lot of plot elements established in the beginning don't go anywhere, things happen just to move the plot and are never really dealt with and the cast feel entirely underutilized.
>people
You don't speak for everyone. Your opinion isn't indicative for anything. I'm just telling your ass what happened while it was airing not some made up horseshit you're spouting.
user. You are dumb as hell.
>U STOOPID
Great argument
Hell yeah man, Gridman was fucking amazing. I think you gotta be a fan of toku and the original show especially to really get it though, and even though I am both those things it managed to reference a bunch of stuff I didn't know about at all, unused and cancelled content from the original, it's crazy how fuckin deep it went with that stuff
>WORTHLESS
>DOESN'T MAKE SENSE
>WASTE OF TIME
These aren't actual arguments
>She never didn't see him as anything but a person since their introduction. so the episode is just a reiteration of what we already know
False. Never before the episode Ryuko is shown asking Senketsu his opinion on any matter and generally treating him as an individual with his own will. In the episode itself she says to him that he's nothing more than a piece of clothing. The realization that he's a real person with free will that really cares about her is exactly the climax of the episode. And is followed up in episode 6 with the two interacting as freinds for the first time and in episode 7 with Ryuko opening up to him for the first time.
>Which is also not needed because the previous episodes established this
Where?
>and it doesn't really delve much substantially mroe than the episodes that came after it.
I'm the one who made those examples, I can tell you exactly how and why episode 6 goes deeper into it.
>So I can prove why you're wrong?
Yes please. Say the episode. And don't forget to follow up on episode 5 and 6, if you can.
>Literally after the episode its revealed that she's related to Ragyo and Nui
It would be a long post, so I'll see if you can answer the rest first. I doubt it.
>You didnt't.
See above.
>This isn't true either. For someone's who;s a KLK expert you managed to flub that up.
It's literally screamed at anyone who was too dumb to get it. Are you really this dense or just pretending?
This is the plain truth. KLK overall story and theme are pretty dumb generally, but it is a joy to watch for every second. TTGL has a much more cohesive theme, but it is a slog sometimes especially in part 2.
I know barely anything about toku and had never even heard of Gridman before and still loved it, even though I knew there was stuff going over my head
I asked you why it isn't a well written show. provide examples, please.
>I'm just telling your ass what happened while it was airing not some made up horseshit you're spouting.
And I told you that the opinions of non specified "people" when it was airing are less than worthless. Why don't you provide some actual substance in your post for a change?
Give the old show a watch, like, three episodes or so, and have a wiki walk about all the stuff nu-gridman referenced, it'll be nice
she could work more on her unarmed combat skills
pls
I just finished this a few days ago and enjoyed it far more than I expected. I thought it would be a alright but very overrated show which was how I felt about Gurren Lagann but I enjoyed it a lot more than anything I’ve watched in the past year.
Also is it wierd that I found myself rooting for Satsuki and the Four Devas far more than I was Ryuuko by the second cour?
not weird at all, just means you have proper patrician taste for satsuki and her squad
>It's a 7/10
It's a 9/10 and you know it.
>fucked up my spoilers
Dumber than mako
and not as cute either. just kill yourself now
Who didn't like the satsuko pose.
Though for me the best was the ryuko vs nonon fight.
Fucking phone posting
Sequel when?
>the best was the ryuko vs nonon fight.
Mine was blind Sanageyama vs Ryuko.
>ryuko vs nonon
My nigga
KlK is a show with fantastic direction and mediocre writing. It is very enjoyable if you don't mind style above substance, but TTGLhad style and substance.
>Also is it wierd that I found myself rooting for Satsuki and the Four Devas far more than I was Ryuuko by the second cour?
Not really since they basically hijack the show.
This. I had no idea what the fuck Gridman even was, I just loved the direction and the villains. The tokushit was also really enjoyable, and I usually don't care for tokusatsu.
TTGL also had a ton of wasted space and that introduction scene that's in no way connected to the plot. It's a nice story, but I don't find it that impressive. I think KlK's style > TTGL's substance.
Sisterly Love!
fool, a true patrician would recognize it was always their show
Thinking of GaMako makes me happy.
Keeping that eye on the prize
Sauce?
Kill la Kill if I was to guess.
Lordgenome though.
fucking love the buildup to him becoming one of the heroes
>that moment when he was in biocomputer form but pushed simon to keep looking for nia
>that fucking HYPE with LAZENGANN OVERLOAD
It's a solid 8 for me and I'm glad enough time has passed that people don't feel a need to shit on it just because it was popular with the normies and casuals.
I GOTTA FIND OUT WHO KILLED MY DAD
tfw no omake series about Satsuki trying to be a big sister to Ryuko
Fuck that, give me a prequel about her and the Elite Four instating their reign of terror and invading Japan's schools.
Nooooooo I want cute SoL with gap moe Satsuki
It's a 7.5 in my book. It's aight.
i still can't believe that not only was the osaka raid just to show up and beat the shit out of the schools instead of some sort of sports competition but that every school was fucking ready to throw down and brought any and all equipment and weird abilities to fight
well you can't show the gap part of the gap moe if you don't have the reign of terror to contrast
Dude, I was riding this show's dick the moment it came out, like most of Yea Forums. I still love it and I'm still collecting. I really hope Trigger explores the KLK universe more. This show has everything: boobs, butts, boobs, butts, fighting boobs, and butts -- oh and two of the best female leads ever.
But really, I love this show.
>They are literally using money as a weapon
>Tfw Nee-san just ordered dozens of people to hard labor in a despicable public show of force for the peasants before retiring to the tower.
>But she cuddles with obsession like a motherfucker.
walk in and see this, what do
Nut deep in her pussy/impregnate.
So they fucked after their date right?
It would only be impolite not to. You never leave a lady wanting after all. Even if she's a rebellious delinquent tomboy that blushes harder every time she's called as such in tender words between passionate bouts in the night.
i wouldn't mind that, just do like mako
I fucking loved the Raid Trip for that reason, it was so ridiculous. It reminded me of something like Kids Next Door where there's this whole parallel youth society under the adults' noses.
Ask her what the deal is with the Mako butt plug.
of course you really enjoyed you are some newfag that hasnt seen shit for anime
