How's that chapter coming along? Are you enjoying working on it?

I don't enjoy anything.

I'm fluent in English and Chinese. Is it possible for me to make some side money by translating untranslated doujins from Sadpanda?

Best guide to cleaning and typesetting?

I want to help out a manga who suffer from lazy typesetter buy I have not clue where to start.

I’m getting paid $200 usd to do it, so it’s alright I guess

What do the ED, PR, TL, TS, QC and others on the credits page even mean? Translator and typesetter is obvious but I can't figure out the rest.

Editing, proofreading, translation, typesetting, quality control

I don't know about best, but here's a couple I've found helpful at times.

Anyone know how to rip of bookwalker?

>tfw they ask you to TLC some random esl's script and it's so horrible you end up spending an hour retranslating 80% of the chapter

I haven't even finished the first Genki textbook, I'm never going to make it as a TLer. All I want is to read any obscure mango.

>"please support the author by buying the manga"
>"credits: raws: das"

Unless you buy your own domain and make your own site to upload your TL doujins you won't make jack shit since who the hell isngoing to pay you?

would people be willing to type out an adfly link I put at the end of the doujins? something like "plz type this url to give me $0.01 so I have more motivation to translate your porn"

I've cleaned everything except awkward stuff where I'll see what the text covers before finishing.
50% typesetting done.
Just need to have an evening when I don't get in tired from work at 7pm.

hurry and translate manga for me slaves

>can't read Japanese
>have photoshop experience
I just want to translate my hentai doujins, guys, why do machine translations still suck so much

i remember when early Black Clover chapters had 2 to 3 proofreaders and it was still full of completely wrong sentences, bad grammar and spelling mistakes

I certainly wouldn't. Doujins would have to be really top quality and how many untranslated good doujins are there even out there?

ok

Translator > Proofreader/Editor >>>>>>> Typesetter >>>>>>>>>>>>> Cleaner >>>>>>>>>>>>> Redrawer >>>>>>>>>>>>>> useless >>>>>>>>>>>>>> QC

Do you even need that side money Satan?

yes

Numbers don't mean much when they're all retarded monkeys

What are you gonna do if you get sniped? cry on mangadex to get the sniper taken down?

GIMP DOES EVERYTHING BETTER AND ITS FREE

>GIMP DOES EVERYTHING BETTER
Very, very wrong.

Photoshop is free too you know

while MD is pretty gay surely they don't have a rule against sniping unless you rip their script or something right?

The UI is pretty much the only reason to use GIMP.

There's no rule against sniping, but the release the people put on Mangadex specifically said "Do not put on Mangadex" (which was removed by the uploader)

I'm stuck with gimp for a while, give me a good guide

I downloaded paint.net, that's what you said right?

I have it, I just don't use it

Attached: 1550464292349.png (1280x720, 402K)

I have GIMP and I use it extensively for all of my assorted image manipulation needs, but for manga Photoshop is just better in every way, especially when it comes to typesetting.

>start up GIMP to do some scanlating
>wait half an hour until all the fonts have been loaded and the program actually starts

Based retard

But it doesn't respect your 4 fundamental freedoms

t. free-loader qc-er, nitpicking shit to waste everyone's precious time

i can't quality check because i can't do anything but redrawing
and lololol cleaners do jack shit unless they have to clean some god forsaken 3000 year old scans that are just a mess, and this doesn't happen anymore, i've had cleaners clean full volumes in 30 minutes

I fucking hate this user's profile pic, have it blocked and always manages to show up when I'm reading comments.

Cleaning bubbles, magazine ads, renaming everything into numbered PSD = is necessary and provide convenience for typesetters
Redrawing = is not

who is the worst Yea Forums translator and why is it stalker?

all of them

me

He's done more for Yea Forums than you ever will.

>esl tl

pls no bully

I'm cleaning the doujinshi/raws I scanned this weekend and it's taking a long-ass time.

the one who dropped made in abyss

Proofreaders tend to attract those who want to feel like part of the team with none of skill prerequisites. I can tell you that an overeager proofreader will find ways to fuck up a perfectly good script because they want to make the work theirs.

having a second pair of eyes is always great for translators. It's hard to spot your own mistake.

Trust me, it's not him. There are plenty more fledglings with shaky legs to be found. Also, the guy's actually come a pretty long way over these past years and has good teamwork skills.

who cares when he only translates r*ddit manga.

>having a second pair of eyes is always great for translators
yes
>an overeager proofreader will find ways to fuck up a perfectly good script because they want to make the work theirs
also yes

Having a decent proofreader who talks to you, helps you fix things and maybe even come up with better alternatives is great
Seeing something you worked on release with random unnecessary or even detrimental changes sucks

Then just don't approve the changes that you dislike
Do you actually just give your translation to somebody else and then fuck off and not say anything ever again about it?
You're the translator. You're the one in charge.

>teamwork skills
#1 sign of a bad scanlator

Best group size is one.

Sure but when proofreaders go around turning straightforward sentences into flowery nonsense that destroys the nuances and introduces ones that weren't there in the source material to begin with then I may as well have a blind man oversee my scripts. It shouldn't be too much to ask for someone to just look out for typos and awkward phrasing but nope 3/5 of barely know enough english to be proofreading at all and 1 of the remaining 2 thinks they're hot shit that can make the author's words better than what he actually wrote.

To illustrate my point - I once had some idiot turn something along the lines of "her power's intensifying" into "her tune is swelling into a crescendo " just because the character plays piano. There was nothing musical about the powers she was using or the scene.

2.
1 translator and 1 photoshop slave.

Not them, but this is why (though is acceptable also)

Only the translator knows what the raw dialogue actually says, and as such besides actual typos/etc the script should never really be touched by anyone else. If it's poorly translated ESL garbage in the first place that needs 'proofreading'/rewriting to read logically or whatever, then they just need to fuck off and not TL in the first place.

This. Even more this if the photoshop slave knows some japanese and can spot mistakes here and there.

There are a few groups with really slow releases for manga I like, I want to help them but I'm also too much of a pussy to ask them if they're accepting help

Don't worry, they'd probably refuse anyway.

no harm in asking, especially if you have useful skills

They don't care. just snipe them. either force their hand or takeover.

Maybe he can ask if he could snipe them, as a compromise.

Non ESL translator and grammar nazi QC is what I've been doing and it's objectively better. You don't have to waste time when your original translation doesn't fit in the bubble.

This but unironically. Some of them even purposefully delay their shit to squeeze more donation money

I've considered just offering them money to do a specific series faster, but I know that's not how their scam works. They have to artificially keep the process slow so you keep paying them.

I've considered sniping some of my favorite manga but only because I want them to release the shit they are sitting on, not because I want to do the whole thing myself when I know they've got the resources.

The ones I'm talking about don't even have a patreon or whatever as far as I can tell. Probably doesn't help that the manga aren't very popular.

Imagine if you actually spend your free time learning the language instead of begging scanlators to do everything for you.

I am learning, I can read most SoL manga fine but I don't trust my ability enough to try mystery and the likes

I've been waiting for one of these. I just wanted to thank all the anons who gave me pointers to get through Bookwalker's decryption. It still took me a month, but I did it, and I'd even share it if there was a way to ensure BW doesn't get wind of it. You wouldn't believe the layers and layers of encryption and obfuscation these guys came up with.

Attached: Akane01.jpg (197x269, 39K)

I'm struggling with this halfrone gradient. I can't make the exact arrangement. Can anyone provide some tips?

Attached: Screenshot_1.png (842x598, 288K)

>You wouldn't believe the layers and layers of encryption and obfuscation
Do tell. Does it involve storing individual pages as scrambled svg files? Also are you taking ripping requests for the night user?

>editor for the manga i'm working on got shingles so there's no chapter out this month
Fug. I'm actually really into it.

Use the clone stamp tool carefully.

>Probably doesn't help that the manga aren't very popular.

I know it's not probably one the series I'm working on, but I've delayed a chapter for 3 months because the redrawing are such a pain and way above what I can do, and the nigga who helps me doing that is busy doing other shit.

you don't need to provide the script, but you might want to set up an email like ripper user and take request.

Anyone know of any good fonts for the top right and bottom left panels?

Attached: 杺朄彮彈摿庩愴偁偡偐丂乮10乯亂僨僕僞儖斉尷掕摿揟晅偒亃_0050.png (900x1280, 1013K)

I'm not ripper user. There's a very small chance I'll own what you want. The Bookwalker app stores its manga, which it calls 'books', as extracted epub folders and it gets the association which folder belongs to which book from its password-protected database file. Every book also has an encrypted license zip file, in which is another encrypted zip, which holds the encrypted key files that make up the keys to decrypt the files in the epub. One key for example is split across 3 files in there, 2 of them AES-encrypted and 1 RSA-encrypted. Files of the current encryption generation need to go through their first deobfuscation method, after which the first 10272 bytes of the file are AES-decrypted with that split-up key I mentioned, and if it's a jpg, it goes through another, different deobfuscation method. The cover file is a special case though with its own decryption key.

I wish I had the money for that.

Not a good idea to talk about it too much. other than that, keep up the good work guys, we really appreciate it.

I don't work on anything I'm told that it's needed soon, so that chapter will be sitting on my computer until then.
gimp a shit
See pic related.

i finally released a chapter after looking/waiting/ mostly just waiting for a typesetter for a long time!

Attached: happy jump.gif (1200x1200, 478K)

Forked Tongue in all caps for bottom left, and there's a lot of good shouting fonts out there for top right, maybe Fight to the finish or Ratatatat.

>want to translate manga
>don't want to commit to something that could go on for dozens and dozens of chapters

What's the best place to find a series that's kind of short but not a oneshot or porn?

This, I usually like to help around with photoshop work but if the tl does everything himself that's a shitton less work for me

Anthologies maybe?

Thanks

>not getting photoshop for free

I've got two doujin translations sitting at me that have been here for more than a year at this point. My TL started talking shit about me not getting them done finally.

>he

Jcafe down again? Is there no other english-speaking good raw manga forum or tracker?

She used to be open about her sex back when she was still a namefag, so it should be in the older archives somewhere.

The idea of a female lolicon makes my dick as hard as diamonds.

They do exist, a significant proportion of loli mangaka are female.

desuarchive.org/a/thread/72441055/#72441876
She's always been a shameless attention whore in Yea Forums loli threads, and before that on /tg/.

Is it a good idea to upload manga raws on web.archive.org for preservation?

Who cares, TL good mango is all I care about.

You can be a good translator but be horrible at redrawing and photoshop. Also having someone proofreader is nice because typos happen, though you can just post TLs and wait for someone to correct any issues.

Bought this while in Japan and I've been wondering if it's been scanlated somewhere. I can't really find anything, but maybe I'm just blind. Not even sure if I'd be able to scan it properly or if I want, just curious.

My eyes cant differentiate colors anymore but it'll be worth it

How do you mean? There's thousands of series that are only a few volumes, just look through tags/authors that interest you

No

Could the guy that asked for the Aida ni Hatachi raws please get on with the translation? It's been months for fucks sake.

>Akane01
God, I wish this was still scanlated. Then again, are there even new chapters published in the magazine?

I normally use Obelix pro for the top right but there's hundreds of blocky fonts you can pick.
Bottem left you have the options of Komika Parch, Boopee (all caps), or BPpong grunge (all caps).
