Part 7 took mediocre trash (Part 1 and Part 3) and turned it into gold.

Part 8 took pure gold (Part 2 and Part 4) already - merely living up to the source material was a gargantuan task - so instead he created something mediocre at best. Gappy is just a fucking joke compared to Joseph (the most beloved JoJo on Yea Forums) and Josuke (Araki's very own most beloved JoJo). There are a couple of nice new ideas, but overall, it was destined to look like nothing but a fanfiction compared to the two source parts it is trying to "re-imagine". There was basically no space for improvement in the original source material, so Araki had almost no option but to fail.

We can only hope that Part 9 - which should be a reimagination/combination of Part 5 and Part 6, both of which are Parts that have some great sections but are overall dragged down by fatal flaws - will be better than the source material and fixes the things that needs fixing. Part 5 is incredibly laden with biblical parallels and themes and has a legitimately interesting story about the human conflict with the idea of fate. Parts 6 and 7 also go very deep with subtle biblical storytelling with stories about predestination, moral relativism and the idea of fortune/godly grace underneath the crazy alien robot punchghost shenanigans. Araki's a pretty interesting writer when you give him a chance.
