It was also entirely from Hinata's side, with Naruto just seeing her the same as just about everyone else he considered a friendly acquaintance. They really needed more interactions and buildup throughout the series from both sides.

I agree that they didn't share a ton of scenes together due to her being a side character, but they had some pretty great ones overall. Such as the blood oath, the proud failure speech, when Naruto's transformation when he thought she was died surpassed any prior transformation, when Hinata was able to tell it was the real Naruto while everyone else was doubting him, when she was the one to raise his spirits despite being the one more torn apart by her cousins death, the hand-holding scene he initiated, when he was able to feel that she was going under that Kaguya jutsu shit showing us that they've connected deeper. I do think we could have gotten more on his side, but it's whatever. No use crying over split milk.

It actually had something to ground it though. There usually has to be a reason why someone is attracted to someone else like that. In Hinata's case it made sense up until the retarded retcon. Then they even made her a great Ninja and she could beat Hanabi, and her dad wasn't going to replace her as heir. So it removed a lot of her feelings of not belonging, but they inserted that kids picked on her rather than her just being lonely because people were afraid to talk to her due to being a noble. That end movie just fucked a lot of things up for really no reason.
