-The main character is a boy. -The plot doesn't revolve around him being in love, or a girl being in love with him. -The girl is there as an assistant. She pays her bills by mudwrestling at the local strip club. -There are no dragons, aliens, or demons for the MC to challenge. Instead he tries to live his life bouncing from one dead-end job to the next. It's set in a modern-day non-big-city, non-village city. -He has parents and we see them. -This isn't a series focused on the local Yugioh. Instead the girl comes up with a plan to paperwork-rob the local corporation. -John dies at the end. The girl is arrested.
Yeah, every one of those seems to be the opposite of how things have been for awhile.

A harem anime, but in the last episode, they tell the MC how they feel, and the MC replies by saying he's been dating a random girl the entire time and doesn't consider them anything more than classmates. The random girl would have been seen in every episode, but not together with the MC. However, in retrospect the evidence was there all along.

What is picked up by cynical audiences as just plain bait turns out to be true all along. Baiting the people who were expecting to be baited, but instead the show actually goes all the way and STAYS that way at the end.
