There's also the big issue of what you do with them after they're taken prisoner, and what you plan to eventually do. There is an enemy a short distance away from you, looking after them while traveling or in a wartime situation when you don't have somewhere to put them or anything for them to do. Best thing would be to sell them to a neighboring area, but we established this is Daigo's men when he came back later, so his nation is already prosperous and he would have to sell them in enemy territory.

In short capturing the kids would be a big mess and a risk if one escaped.

Youkai (妖怪) though, are basically folklore monsters. It's a catchall term for a huge variety of different creatures, spirits, monsters, etc. Some are ghosts or otherwise created by people, but some are just these weird monsters created by weird phenomenon or circumstances. In general they're not evil, though most wouldn't be called friendly, and would actually be dangerous to meet, but it's like rattlesnakes. They aren't evil, but good things don't usually happen when a person encounters one.

That's because it's a TV rip and basically nobody broadcasts HDTV in 1080p. Most HD broadcasts the world over are still 720p or 1080i. And in the case of anime, the standard practice is to record broadcast copies on HDCAM tapes, which are 1080i, so you're never getting the native resolution regardless of what format you watch on. Wait for BDs if you want to quality snob.

You gotta start some time or you'll never progress. This anime might be hard though because of the antiquated language and accents and stuff. I find it's best to start with a simple slice of life show where most of the dialogue is cliche and easy to follow.

A time skip seems possible imo. But honestly I don't see why they should split up in this adaptation, they work better when together and Dororo turned out to be a lot helpful to Hyakki. There's no reason to do so other than for the sake of a contrived dramatic plot twist.
