I thought this would end up being a slideshow, but animation is actually pretty solid. Story is also fairly interesting so far.

I still feel like I have missed an entire show worth of story before this.

The show is so bad and poorly animated. But I can't bring myself to drop it because the premise is about protecting a young, defenseless, and cute blue-haired flat-chested girl who holds a mysterious power. That's my cup of tea, and I project onto the girl.

First one was notorious for shoving new people down our throats without any prior introduction. This one only introduces two, and kills both of them off by the end

I was also wondering why the ED sounded so familiar, and it turns out it's a HanaKana cover of a popular song 1996. The version I'm familiar with is the cover by moumoon, but it seems Yanagi Nagi has covered it too, which is probably how you've heard it before. It's a nice song, not sure HanaKana's voice is particularly well suited to it though.
