At the very least we saw a few of the ingredients in action and had a decent flashback. Meanwhile Takumi's win had to be shared with Soma and Megumi's win was completed in four pages with zero food even being presented.

At this point, it'll at least 36 volumes, so chapter 317 is the earliest it could end. If they cram ten chapters into both volumes 35&36, it could go up to 319. The odds of it going past that look pretty slim at the moment.

Could it have been saved?

Probably not. The fundamental problem is that before Azami, the series was more like a sports manga in that it was just a bunch of kids competing. Competition could be cut throat, but there were no real villains in the series after they backed off from Erina being the villain early on after the training camp arc. After Azami showed up, it shifted more towards being a battle manga with villains to defeat. Only that's not nearly as well suited to the premise of the series.

Loss of advice for the cooking is a big blow even if it's temporary, but what's killing the series is the whole "dark chef" premise that doubled down on the series having to have villains. To make Asahi work the way Tsukuda wanted him to, Tsukada, Jou and Erina had to be thrown under the bus, with Tsukasa and Jou jobbing to Asahi in matches, and Erina losing all of her development and turning into a NTR victim in progress.

Having better cooking for better matches might have cushioned the fall a bit, but in all likelihood I think the series was axed and given half a year to live during the third gate preliminary. The lack of cooking or even showing off dishes since then isn't a result of lacking their consultant. It's a result of rushing through the series to get to the final Asahi and Erina matches with enough time to do at least a half decent job with them. Similarly the lack of the peanut gallery until now was to save time.
