Two, Japan doesn't give US a lot of access, the next day UNSC passes a binding resolution that orders Japan to give full international access, and then starts blockading and bombing it if Japanese government refuses. I'm not surprised that Yao would know, just possibly that Rory didn't know immediately. I was fine with the JDSF wank. They paid homage to Apocalypse Now in a fun way and the JDSF jingoism is pretty confined to only a hand full of scenes. If you liked it you might want to check out Zipang. Unfortunately it was incomplete but the political perspectives in that are FAR more balanced and is even respectable if you understand the context. From the political perspective it's a better "gate"... but the anime ends at essentially a season 1 point in a 3 season show (they never followed it up. I never read the Manga).

It doesn't. thee JSDF was able to defeat the ruling military class in battle, and then the peons are eventually attracted to the JSDF because they have shinier stuff and are probably less likely to rape them to death for not leaping out of the way fast enough.
The military class tries to conspire against the JSDF but it is really difficult to overstate how disruptive it is to lose like 80% of your best and brightest soldiers in the initial contact.
