I am okay with the art, what killed it for me was the generic BURNT VILLAGE flashback trope and the idiotic intro you always know you're having a shit show in front of you if the worldbuilding gets text dumped in the first minutes instead of being shown in the actual show.
I would also prefer if this show was just about post war shenanigans rather than that CGI fairy stand bullshit.

What's worse is that it's even more or less about the same shit. Even the past of the MCs is almost the same and the fact that they're enemies now.
I honestly prefered Sirius over this here though. Is it true that this is a two cours show?

No. What they need to do is to give their action projects to competent people. Kuromukuro was from Darker than Black director and it was a really good mecha with solid SoL segments.

Opinions etc. but I loved the series from the beginning. It doesn't work at all if you can't related with the feMC but as someone who was always apathetic myself I enjoyed watching her being depressed and unable to connect until she finally and very slowly developed and grew as a character.
The series had a bunch of parts that were stupid or could have been skipped but it was still nice and somewhat special to me. Fairy Gone feels like a typical tryhard action series made by someone who doesn't really know how action works and it mostly consists of tropes and bad montages that are overdone to hell and back in fantasy.

I do like originals and serious series it's just that the first episode didn't work at all for me and considering how lazy parts of the script were I have my doubts that it will get better later but I give it three episodes.

Shirobako is the only good PA anime.

Aside from Sakura Quest I really enjoyed Hanasaku Iroha.

So far I doubt it will make any fujos interested. Not even Sirius could attract many of them and it felt way more fujo friendly than this. Maybe they are thinking they will attract a bigger audience with two female antagonist/friends but this remains yet to be seen.
I have to admit that the blonde antagonist is the only thing about this series I am slightly interested in so far. I wish they would portray the post war world better. Episode 1 never hinted on people being influenced by said war, they only told you the war happened through some text dump intro.

I hope this won't be the formularic weekly monster type of series. Even the action/murder scene of the last episode felt misplaced to me.
It felt like they were about to flash out the characters but thought that people might drop it due to ADHD if there wasn't some big action and shooting scene to happen so they squeezed in that shit but it only made everythign worse.

I feel like people are giving directors too much credit in the sense of believing that everything they do must be bad or good because their first work was like that. There are always stories that suit you and others that won't and and there is also a gigantic difference between adapting something and creating a series out of nothing. I know so many directors that produced some AOTY/AOTS of mine but absolute garbage a year later or vice versa.
I guess most of the Fairy Gone ideas are from said director but you never know who's influencing or editing the work too. If someone urged me to create some post war series with Stand fairy power users I would probably fail to deliver anything good too whereas some keywords or ideas trigger a shitton of inspiration for me.

The absense of generic shit doesn't make it good it only means that isn't the most generic anime shit.
And there are always a few seres each season with those exact points you mentioned, I rather watch or re-watch these. And I don't see any similarites with Berserk here.

From the interview seems it's producer and writer(grimgar's author) first then they find the director to direct it, then give contract to PA Works animate it.

Egao no Daika was an anime original story with an interesting premise that completely squandered any potential with boring plot, 1 dimensional characters, and awful direction.
Now we have to see where Fairy Gone will go, but so far we've got the same problems to go with the interesting premise.

This is my prime fear with original stories, that they have a lot of creativity and interesting new ideas and premises but then completely fail to build on that and go totally off the edge.

I remember a while back there was that show about interdimensional Jesus arriving and bringing humanity free perpetual energy that ended up turning into a magical girl battle show

Really I think the biggest issue with these bad originals is the overall plot writing. While you can fail to realize interesting characters due to problems with dialogue and storyboarding, there's no excuse when the plot does has no interesting facets. Inconsistent setting, no proper conflict/climax/resolution, no interesting plot points, those are all problems that come back to bad planning and poor plot writing.
It makes me think that the writers are just not as experienced in doing full story/scenario writing.

It's usually episode 2 for me. Most series have a decent or great first episode and episode 2 is where you can already foresee the formularic stuff. OR episode 1 is weak and 2 is way better, in which way I will watch more of it. But it's almost never episode 3 or 4 where shit goes downhill or improves.

My problem is that EnD had a somewhat interesting premise but FG does not in my opinion. I am tired as hell of these special power types of anime.

The fairy designs are actually pretty decent, it's such a shame they went with CG though. What happened to actually skilled animators?

Having any kind of hard x episodes rule is dumb, honestly. Just keep watching until you find yourself falling behind, then reevaluate whether you care enough about the show to catch up.

Didn't make money, that's the weird thing. There were like 3-4 anons watching and it seems like it wasn't much different in Japan. My theory is that it got funded by someone, I vaguely remember reading something about funds from Osaka (or where ever the series takes place) related groups to make the anime feature the city and the city life is indeed portrayed in those series, be it the busy and overly animated crowds moving around or certain buildings places that came up at least once every episode. Otherwise this wouldn't make any sense.

Probaly an allusion to Fairy Tale but with Gone as in "the times when fairies and magic was spread naturally throughout the world and everyone was happy is gone and people misuse fairies as weapons of war" or something along the lines. As in most anime there will probably come a plot point that explains how the misuse of fairies is causing an inbalance to the world like heavy pollution and shit and that it might even corrupt or kill fairies which would have catastrophic consequences to the world. There will also be characters arguing against that and claim fairies to be problematic and rather see them gone just as the vampire and dog clan (or whatever those people of MC were called) debate in Sirius.

And to thought i actually praised their CGI at one point.
Kuromukuro was probably one of the best applications of CGI in mecha genre, worse than Orange but better than almost everyone else.

That's what I was already complaining about during episode 1 in My guess is that this is one of those series that doesn't do what it really needs to do or what the writer wants but what he feels that has to be done to avoid boredom within the audience.
It's true for a part of the big mass but the big mass is irrelevant for anime and you should always stick to one genre, idea and style otherwise you will also lose the part of the audience that might have enjoyed the show even if it was slow, as long as the slow parts were nicely done.

We saw a bit more of Free, and his boss. We were introduced to two of the other main characters in the organization. We saw an example of a more normal mission they participate in, and the varied ways they can use fairies. I don't know, I thought this episode was handled fine. I don't think an exposition dump for Dorothea would have any better, probably would have gotten "show don't tell" complaints instead.

That, I'll agree with. Though I don't think it's actually a problem. Usually by the time the geopolitical situation becomes relevant, you'll have remembered the important actors and historical events.

It could be to convey just how much was changed in the war with the names and former owners being less important than demonstrating the sheer number of locations that changed hands.

The CGI is a bit of a letdown but this is still "watchable" so far , at least I'm still interested by the overall premise.

The pacing is indeed atrocious and the plot is really bad at making you care for any of the characters besides their eye-candy designs. The whole flashback scene at beginning made no absolute sense or whatsoever due to bad composition with you wondering what the fuck was happening, let's not even talk about the bad guy just leave after stabbing this random guy who jumped out of nowhere. While we get the point of the flashback but it was handled so poorly that the viewer was just dumbfounded how bad it got executed.

The rest of the episodes are just action but even then we still know almost nothing to any of the factions and relationship. The sound begs at least 3-4 minutes info dump, since their whole "Show, don't tell" was not being handled well at all here.

I love these things, looks adorable.

Not perfect but it's watchable. I do hope they slow down next episode and dedicate more time to training and getting to know the characters more.
