Still I don't think Yurikuma's problem was not being character focused. Lulu was great, likable and sympathetic from start to finish, and Sumika was made likable through her flashbacks with Kureha despite dying right at the start.

The problem was that the two leads and the relationship you're supposed to care about the most are made unlikable through an ever growing pile of questionable plot decisions. Kureha is depressing to watch for most of the show because she's miserable over her dead girlfriend. Meanwhile we know she's going to get a new girlfriend over the course of the next 12 episodes anyway. Meanwhile she isn't showing any interest in this girl because she doesn't remember her. Meanwhile we get the reveal of Ginko letting Sumika die and doing nothing, which was a horrible idea that added fuck all to the story other than being another tweest and was the final nail in the coffin.

This anime isn't as obfuscated as other ikuhara shows in terms of what it's trying to tell but still nonsensical shit in terms of story.
