Kind of like what this guy said with the self inserting. Iseki is just a normal story in a different world with the added benefit that you can let the reader self insert. This self insert is also a clueless person who can be info dumped on "naturally". It's also an easy out to give the MC plot armor.

Its a self insert fantasy which is already the entire selling point of otaku anime, but with the added bonus of not having to set up an elaborate reason for anything to happen. You just Truck your protagonist into a magical world so your fanbase can still self insert but you can make the world as fantastical as you want. Basically its the fast food of storywriting.

Beyond the derogatory remarks towards the audience, it's also a lazy convenience mechanism for the narrative. You can make a fantasy series without needing it to be isekai, but by having a total outsider to the works, you suddenly justify having every character explicitly explain the background justifying it as "teaching" the protagonist about the world.
That said, it's not that the trope itself is bad, like all tropes it's how they're used.
