These are not necessarily the best shows of the decades, and there are many many many more good shows that aired. But these five are just big enough and just popular enough with semi-normalfags without being outright trash (so no SnK) to make them real candidates for Bebop/Death Note/FMA level fame. Come 2020 you can expect them to pop up on every hackneyed ANN "Best Animes of the 2010's" clickbait article.

Being "best" unfortunately doesn't make a classic. You need to be extremely popular even outside more "regular" anime fans to be considered a "classic".

The anime fanbase is too fractured at this point for there to be any kind of consensus on what a classic might be. There are no shows that one can assume everyone has seen because so much shit comes out every season.
Shounenfags, SoLfags, waifufags etc all have more than enough stuff every season to never go out of their comfort zone hence everything is now niche.
Back when there were only like 10 "real" anime everyone would watch everything that airs even if it wasn't entirely up their alley. One would try to extract enjoyment out of a show even if whatever they're looking for isn't the focus.
Now everyone just stays in their little sub-fanbase bubbles and barely ever overlap.

Literary classics are the same. I remember a few authors who were known for making lots of quick showelware novels to get by. And one or two of these actually got popular and years later became a part of school curriculums everywhere on the planet. The guys who made them didn't have anything from it. The books in question were just mildly more popular showelware at the time.

It is pretty popular in Japan too. It is all over Uji and you see lots of music shops all around Japan advertising with it. That being said, I don't think it will be a classic either though it is in the top tier of Kyoani shows. Not quite up their with their actual classics but just a step behind.
