The apparently is key, you can tell it's Aechmea's interpretation based on the moonies themselves being stuck in the wheel of samsara. They should give up individuality to pass over, but they can't help being tied to their sense of self and desires, so they want to have names for themselves.
Since they're their 'treasures', it seems to be tied to identification rather than use. The only other Lunarian who introduces herself without being prompted to it is Quieta, who also happens to be the only moonie who voices her own idea about their whole situation.

They never tried to prevent Sensei from praying though. What they did was suspecting that Phos had aligned with the enemy and could or would harm him, which definitely was the case with the night raid.
In the latest chapter, once they made sure that Phos couldn't try anything funny, they let him speak to him. Right to that point the gems didn't literally have ANY idea about the praying business, since Phos never told anyone and Sensei cannot freely talk about it.

What? No he doesn't. It would completely defeat the purpose since the alloy stretches all the time. Where did you see this? Because the manga surely didn't have Phos wear gloves after winter.
Remember that gloves in the series most likely fit two purposes: avoid the occurrance of high hardness gems inadvertedly scratching the low hardness ones, and having the limbs of the gems with higher toughness stay in place rather than scatter when they're hit by Lunarians. Phos didn't need to wear the gloves pre-winter and sure wouldn't carry a fighting liability on his best weapon.

As often, the truth is in the middle. Phos only wears those after partnering with Bortz, has them for a couple of chapters, and then loses them pretty early in the Shiro fight.
So a cosplay could technically include them and be on-model, but standard alloy!Phos doesn't have the gloves

Well, blame Kima for that. To be honest it was probably the very first thing she tried to make an outfit for a non-moonie, and she did seem to have some sense in making it: Phos' first moon outfit leaves his arms very free to do stuff, is light (since it's summer on Earth), makes him look dignified and nobility-like, and has an opening at the end of the heels for the gold to come out. Now the second moon outfit was a disgrace, what the fuck is with that onesie? Still it'd probably be easier to cosplay

Also since Sensei can't override his own programming it shows that he's bounded by human limitations; how would something like that help with achieving nirvana?
