It is pretty great user, not GOAT but yeah, personally I would give the TV series a 7/10 and the movies/OVAs solid 8s. However, quality aside, the anime IS a stand out anime. It is a massive phenomenon in Japan, and it is fairly unique. It partially revitalized the economy of the shitty town it took place in. Yeah, there are other military girl anime and other "foreign countries personified by anime girls" anime yet GuP has it's own feel/personality.
This is a thread about PPD though so I don't want to talk about GuP too much.

Honestly I don't believe this is true at all. Shaft has only produced 100 episodes of Monogatari over the past 10 years. The problem is that recently everything BUT Monogatari has been shit, and additionally that the source material of what they have been adapting has been shit before they even got to it.
I wouldn't say Monogatari ruined Shaft but rather that they have forgotten how to make anime that isn't Monogatari. There is still soul and creativity in Monogatari (see the amazing Kizu movies or Zokuowari which was quite good). It is like they try to direct other anime as if they were Monogatari but with no soul or effort and it fails every time.

Monogatari didn't kill Shaft, because Shaft can still produce good anime (as long as it is Monogatari). On the contrary, Shaft has simply forgotten how to make anime that isn't Monogatari and ALSO have been adapting shit series doesn't help.
For the record this hurts me a lot too, because I miss old shaft, but I also still really like Monogatari. It is very conflicting.
