So like how originally Gear 2 would exhaust Luffy and he wouldn't be able to use it too often, and how Gear 3 would turn him chibi for a minute? How about how Gear 4 made him basically unable to move at first, but the very next arc he could move around just fine after using it.
Weaknesses exist so that the character isn't too overpowered, so if a character would no longer be considered overpowered without those weaknesses, it makes sense to remove them. I love it when Yea Forumsutists complain about other manga when their favorites are guilty of those exact complaints.

In some other manga the strongest in the world would use a homing power projectile or overwhelm everyone instantly but in One Piece even the strongest slash is still a slah. In New World for example the powerlevel differences become lesser and lesser. Yonko's are at the top of the foodchain but their commanders can clash with admirals and come out unscathed, a high level Shichibukai like Doffy can do that as well. It's almost like yonkos, their commanders, some of the strongest New World pirates like Doffy and Kidd and marine admirals are players in the same game, and the same rules apply to them. So the all out battle between everyone would be a total chaos with no one side overwhelming the other.

He has his own fighting style and I always considered him a martial artists with a specific moveset that's advantageous to him. He often uses his hands for acrobatics and legs carry all the firepower. Honestly if he started using his hands now his punches wouldn't be strong enough to knock out Usopp cause he never trained them. That's just my opinion tho.
