I'll bet you anything that one of the old witches hated Beatrix and that resentment translated into a very bitter rivalry between the Cavendish and that witch's descendant family, and that a multipart episode will deal with that family growing in power and influence and taking advantage of how weakened the Cavendish has been during the last couple of decades. It could be the cour finale and work as development for the lore of old witches, how nobility works in magic society, stuff like that.

There's certainly potential for lore and followup shit for a second season, but I do worry about how much they'd wanna go in to the olde witches.
Like, pretty sure half the hats in that image are just supposed to be references to famous witches from other shows.
The ones I can recognize are

I can't put my finger on it, but the one with the face veil and the one with the wings and metal thing on the front also seem familiar. Thought maybe Freya Crescent for the winged one, but her's has bat wings tnd the metal part is more of a faceplate.
Not sure about the last three hats though.
