The two key scenes - the Carole stroll on the street/scating and duet singing in the end expose the weakness of animation so far. Backgrounds are made by Studio Blue - a Kyoani korean subsidiary that made backgrounds for Houka, VEG, Hibike etc. The interior turned out to be pretty good, but most landscapes/exteriors are weak - i assume the concepts are drawn by bones artists themselves, as the videos about show, show handdrawn sketches of landscapes and storyboard landscapes in their studio. So rather than anything in production i just blame bad design decision with Mars looking just as modern USA. If there was more freedom to make it look more futuristic, probably would have looked better. Or maybe i am overthinking and just interiors and exteriors were made by different people.

Still there are some nice exterior shots, like when Tuesday first walks in city plaza and looks up at the TV screens and banners.

But the sceneries of city itself are important as they create the setting/atmosphere and scale. Thus its bit disappointing there is no good shots of Mars so far - meanwhile Caroles home, McDonnalds, Tuesday room etc. are all very well done.

Example, the fox show by Godakobo this season starts with opening shows of city scenery looking absolutely gorgeous - and even if the show itself is not even in that visual style and other backgrounds are very simple, it sets atmosphere for the rest of episode.

Unless its told, its safer to assume their "Mars" is exactly like Earth. Because authors likely not to give it any thought in first place. The only thing we know so far is Mars enviromnent causing you to become tranny, but nothing else. Gravity/atosphere/day cycle/everything seems the same as earth.
