Burn Up! Excess and I'm loving it. Nanvel is cute!

On episode 7, when does Macross 7 get good?

Attached: 1527072491302.jpg (640x480, 102K)

You lasted longer than I did. I think I gave up in the middle of episode 3.

That's the gayest thing I've seen all week.

Just watched Elf no Wakaokusama, the purest hentai I've ever seen.

>Can't talk about an old anime if a youtube video has been done on it
I typed in "anime review" & it was literally the 5th result. I think everyone's just getting recommended it.

when you hear his song.

Stop shilling you fucking nigger.

>I typed in "anime review"
Literally kill yourself retard.

Episode 10 right now. I've got a ways to go, but I so far I'm loving every second, and don't see that changing for the next 100 or so episodes

Attached: LotGH.jpg (200x286, 25K)

Figured I'd ask here since it's pre-2000 related, what is the oldest example of the word "moe" used in its generally accepted definition in an anime?
The oldest I found was from Martian Successor Nadesico (1996), webm related. But given how casually it's used and that Nadesico's supposed to be referential I feel the word has to be older.
I know the word itself is derived from character names in the 80s, but I'm talking about the word itself with its definition.
I've seen people claim it came from 2ch in the late 90s but its usage in Nadesico already debunks that popular theory.

Xabungle, it's alot of fun but good lord is Xabungle and the Galliar ugly as all hell.
ONE OF US ONE OF US!

I fucking finally started watched Legend of the Galactic Heroes today. I intended to go slow but I'm 13 episodes in already, and it's great as expected. I've heard that it gets even better so I've got that to look forward to. I'm not gonna marathon the whole thing, I'm at least gonna try to stretch it out for two-three weeks because I want to savour it and stay focused rather than binge.

Also about 64 episodes into UY after months of watching one episode every other day. Also great. By the end I expect both of these series to be in my top 10 or at least 15, I'm having a lot of fun right now. It's a nice break from the boredom of going through dozens of shows that didn't leave any impression, it's been a while since I enjoyed anime this much.

>It's the OLD GOOD NEW BAD general
Booooring

Why aren't you watching Sarazanmai?

just started gundam 08th team

I just finished the Doukyuusei OVAs.

Great fun. Didn't even care about the porn.

Attached: dc-008.jpg (640x480, 85K)

There's only been 2 anime worth watching this year though.

such a haunting sound and just fucking cool.

Name them. If both of them aren't movies or shorts you picked wrong.

I'll give you Galliar, but DON'T YOU TALK SHIT ABOUT XABUNGLE!

>9anime.to
Idiot.

newfag trying hard to fit in

Rewatching, actually. My favorite eroge of all time.

I bought this ages ago. $39 for a single episode was damn expensive.

Now go watch the Doukyuusei 2 series.

Attached: Reikobeingherself.png (1236x924, 1.46M)

Nadesico was extremely ahead of it's time, so far ahead it didn't understand it's own genre.

Because I correctly labeled you an idiot for streaming?

>Now go watch the Doukyuusei 2 series.
No.
I watched some of the first episode and it was so boring, that it hurt to watch. The new MC is a lifeless blob with no personality whatsoever. Same shit applies to all the Kakyuusei MCs.

yes because everyone streaming is in the same situation. shut up newfag.

>yes because everyone streaming is in the same situation
Idiots like yourself always make this excuse, which only further proves how pathetic and braindead you are.

Also hilarious seeing you try to call me a newfag to compensate for your stupidity.

just stop newfag. Congratulations you joined in 2018 and if im being generous maybe(maybe) 2017

>just stop newfag
No, I'm pretty comfortable labeling you what you are: a braindead idiot dumb enough to stream anime on some malware infested site.

keep trying hard wont do anything for you

The fact that you keep replying tells me you're pretty insecure when it comes to your stupidity. All the more reason to further confirm the fact that you're an idiot streamfag.

very witty newfriend

Attached: 1551585886112.jpg (1920x1080, 860K)

Not who you're talking with, but can you give it a rest already? Save your butthurt for some other thread. In a pre-2000s thread we can't afford to give a shit how someone watches an anime. Just be glad that anyone is watching anything at all.

Not happening, idiot. If you stream, you deserve to be shat on.

This general is turning into a hugbox more and more with each iteration. If this kind of shit bothers you so much, you can fuck off to reddit or something.

>when does Macross 7 get good
Oh no, no no no no no, you've misunderstood

I need to rewatch this, last time I saw it was on VHS, but it was glorious.

grow up, pussy. this ain't your 'be an asshole' safespace.

Interstella 555.
I was a sucker for Daft Punk and Matsumoto back in the day.

Attached: F18E3DFF-9E2B-4E47-B038-2D78CBABAF30.jpg (1468x1996, 473K)

Holy shit what is this? Whatever this show is I'm watching it right now

How do I into Matsumoto? I heard all his stuff is connected, so is there an order?

I find it interesting that "two-three weeks" is considered savoring a 100 episode show. In the days of VHS fansubs it could take months to 1. source distributors with enough availability to make copies of the show, 2. wait for the blank tapes to reach them, 3. have them actually make the copies, 4. get them back. In reality I always ended up sourcing shows from multiple distros, which was faster, but resulted in wildly uneven quality (first 8 episodes are 1nd gen copies, they look great!... next couple volumes are 5th gen off broadcast TV and I can hardly tell what is going on, etc)
Anyway, enjoy! The best parts of LOGH are still ahead for you!

Watch space battle Yamato, then captain harlock next

just in case you are serious, which I doubt you are, its hades project. And this is your mecha pilot this evening

I don't understand, why wouldn't I be serious? That webm looks fucking awesome. Is it a super popular show or something so only newfags don't know about it? I'm pretty retarded about mecha

Picked up the Blue Sonnet OVAs on a whim because I saw it in an automated recommendation, first episode was kind of mediocre, nothing special, although I liked this shot

god this show was good

Every dogakobo show has blended into one gigantic ball of mediocrity in my head.

Let me guess, they're all "moeshit"?

Duane?

Attached: rKQJ-vgO.jpg (400x400, 13K)

Enjoy, but don't expect it to tie together or make sense. His major works are vaguely related, but not in any cohesive sense at all. Also order does not matter. You might as well start at the beginning with Yamato, to harlock, to Galaxy express, etc but at the end of the day each series/movie pretty much stands alone.

The gore rules but it dries up in the later episodes and then it's just boring.

There's a lot of interconnected lines between his space series, but not actual timeline or continuity, basically every movie or work retcons the ones before and after, but there is a general flow. Like Queen Millenia preceding anything Maetel or Galaxy Express.

Best place to start is probably with the Galaxy Express 999 movies since they condense down the anime and serve as introduction to what you can expect. After that, Arcadia of My Youth is great and Queen Millennia is pretty good. If you still enjoy it, try the 1978 Harlock series and then Endless Odyssey. I'd say avoid Cosmo Warrior Zero, Maetel Legend, Space Symphony Maetel, Queen Emeraldas and the Ring Saga OVAs unless you need and crave more Matsumoto.

For Yamato, just watch the series since it's only 26 episodes and see if you enjoy it. Or maybe fuck it and just watch 2199 which does everything quicker, better, and with a more interesting crew.

And I completely forgot about Harlock SSX, which is basically the only true continuity because it follows Arcadia of My Youth, but it's nowhere as interesting as the 1978 series, even if technically better in animation.

Not him but I'm also interested in something.
I know Matsumoto did a manga adaptation of Wagner Ring operas. How do those work? I was interested because I'm a huge fan of Wagner's Ring but it seems to just use random character names and not much else? It was confusing so I didn't really keep going

Finishing up 8th ms team and then it's on too zeta

From the start, but it gets better.

>What are you currently watching?

I finished Arjuna a few months ago (not pre-2000's, but it's fuckin' 2019, so you'll forgive me), and have been watching a couple of episodes of Trigun here and there.

My thoughts so far:
-I think the setting is neat and I've been enjoying the stories and character designs.
-I fucking hate Vash. I think he's an annoying homo and every time he talks or makes any fucking noise at all it makes everything horrible.
-Wolfwood is great though. I love Wolfwood. Wolfwood is the anti-thesis to Vash and has been making this series enjoyable.

It's not pre-2000s but there's no English release of Skull Man on nyaa.

Any recommendations?

I don't know what kind of taste you have

does an english version of skull man exist at all?

The struggle of mankind

Presumably, it's on Hi-Dive. And I've seen people talk about it.

Just suggest me some good animes please, I'm bored

Why are you posting with a tripcode?

Go to /wsr/ and i'll give you plenty. It's against the rules here.

BnP

I've been watching a lot of movies and OVAs this past week. I also managed to almost complete Seishun Anime Zenshuu, except for one damn episode that's impossible to find.

The last movie I watched was Ai City, which was visually awesome. That music video fight scene was so cheesy and theatrical, it was great.

You are retarded.

I'm sure that for most people it would take more time than that to get through it even if they didn't restrict themselves at all, but as it is now I have nothing but free time.

Thanks for sharing, I find it really interesting to hear how different it was for fans just a few years before my time. Although that seems like a hassle, there's a certain charm to it as well that I feel nostalgic towards despite not actually experiencing it first-hand. I'm happy that it's easier and faster than ever to get access to shows like this but it's possible that having so much entertainment at our fingertips means we don't value it or appreciate it as much as we should or could. It's comparable to the dial-up internet years (which I did experience) before getting blasted with the unlimited possibilities and information that's available today.

Thanks, I will!

>"pop-up blockers"
How braindead idiotic are you? They're called adblockers, and people as stupid as you are no doubt install the malware infested adblockers.

Even then, adblockers alone don't protect you, nor do they compensate for the shitty quality. The fact that you're streaming in this day and age is evidence you're a complete moron.

Finished reading my first manga, Devilman. God, it was amazing.

Just started Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou. It's very good; I feel like there was a certain artistic and directorial trend going into the late 90's / early 00's that kind of disappeared with the switch to digital animation, which is a shame since I like it very much. The use of actual drawing materials keeps the animation grounded, while there's a certain restraint to the animation so they don't try to animate things that they can't afford to animate properly.

Also, obligatory plug for the 20th anniversary of the To Heart anime, which I'm slowly rewatching week-by-week to follow the original broadcast schedule.

youtube.com/watch?v=RCbNAfTRJyA

It doesn't get better you only watching this for the music

It has the reputation of being bad like a lot of 80's OVA but is actually good like a lot of 80's OVA that have the reputation of being bad.
In addition it is also quite notorious for being an adaptation of a hentai manga. The OVA itself is not hentai though.
Also it's kind of OK but don't really get your hopes up about the animation or battles.

Because it's shit?

Potato, potahto. Go finish your homework and chores.

Should I watch or read Ashita no Joe? The anime and manga are each a masterpiece in their own class, but they're also rather long, and I don't have much free time to enjoy both...

Oh look, a retard

Rewatching Patlabor stuff. I feel like I like the OVA less the more I rewatch it. The jokes and their timing just don't land and there's a lot of weird directing choices and the TV series is even worse, while the movies just become better and better with age.

Attached: patlabor.jpg (2570x1392, 1.15M)

Miss Machiko

>weird directing choices
For example?

Just a lot of smaller things like weird dead air etc. I feel like the kind of humor Patlabor is going for just doesn't suit Oshii in general. He did Gosenzosama Banbanzai a year later and the type of comedy in that works a million times better.

When these guys show up.

Attached: Nmktn1j.jpg (1440x1080, 100K)

>It's a whole new Macross Frontierâ„¢ featuring Ranka Lee played by Megumi Nakajima, look out for her PV and drama CD
Jesus christ Kawamori

That's funny, because I just rewatched Patlabor recently and all I could think was how much better the first OVA was than the TV series.
>the kind of humor Patlabor is going for just doesn't suit Oshii in general
He directed all of the best comedy episodes in the TV show, though. Like where they try to order Chinese food for everyone or the one with the gator living in the sewers.

I've only seen the OVA but I thought it was just alright. My main problem was I felt like every episode spent way too long on the build-up only for the payoff to turn out kinda lackluster or not very interesting. I really liked the characters but I feel like they didn't get a chance to be as entertaining as they could've been.

>Spent way too long on the build up only for the payoff to be lackluster
Exactly how I felt when I lost my virginity

I watched the episode about her, it broke me. I can explain her sad story if asked.

Attached: image.jpg (960x640, 64K)

bump.

I am sure that anyone with a functional brain agrees that the TV shows is mediocre at best. The first half might be good, but the second half is pretty abysmal.

Those bike(?) frames aren't tall enough to even contain the portion of the wheel inside them!

I wouldn't go that far but Takeo Kumagami is far less an interesting and entertaining character than Kanuka was, who had to come back anyways to deal with all the big plot stuff. They really needed to better develop the former or put off the latter's departure a good bit longer.

Attached: Patlabor TV 32(x264 720p)(6A6F72DF).mkv_snapshot_19.33_[2018.05.28_04.23.51].jpg (960x720, 79K)

The characters aren't the issue of the second half. It's the abysmal episode structure and "arcs". SSS and Black Labor are bar none the worst storylines in the Patlabor franchise. They stretch for multiple episodes while having about as much narrative depth as the character centric episodes. Whoever wrote them is about as mediocre (and therefore bad) as a writer can be.

Thank god, finally people who agree with me. I've been suffering through the /m/ bullshit praise for years and years.

>Listening to /m/
>The board that thinks Tomino is a good writer and Gundam is fantastic

Even more good opinions. UC OVAs are fantastic though. It's not like I listen to /m/, but there's no other place for this discussion.

torrent?

I like TV and I could barely stand the OVAs. I haven't watched the movies. It has a background arc along with slice of life with worldbuilding. If people are trying to look for a gripping story or exciting plot, look elsewhere.

Attached: 1527608958487.jpg (1280x720, 91K)

I'm watching akage no anne and I'm really enjoying it so far, I got curious and checked other works of nippon animation and it seems like they used to adapt a lot of western novels, that's interesting.

Attached: you should be able to solve this.jpg (960x720, 105K)

Woah, back the fuck up there, buddy. I didn't agree with shit. I just said there was some bumps. So you can back to shitting on whatever shit posts you want but don't be bringing me into it.

You've never actually been to /m/ have you.

Attached: Patlabor TV 03(x264 720p)(048297E4).mkv_snapshot_13.42_[2017.11.03_18.03.30].jpg (960x720, 78K)

I've got like 9 /m/ tabs open right now, I love /m/ but they're pretty retarded about how good Gundam is

I think we all know that /m/ is no more than a glorified toy commercial board. It's not a place to seriously discuss writing or animation as an artform. The only reason to go there is for threads that would die on Yea Forums, e.g. the upcoming Fafner Beyond threads which are unlikely to get any attention here. If I had to compare /m/ to some real life group, I'd compare it to a bunch of boomers living in caravans.

what is this?I saw it mentioned in another thread in a very vague way making me think this is just some fake meme

It's not a fake meme, she's a character from a very obscure hentai that has one of the saddest stories [most woman from that series had] but due to its obscurity is not known.
>Her name is Rina, a very successful singer with many fans and gained well.
>One day, she is informed that her father is dying and had many debts to pay for an evil organization led by a Pegasus lookalike.
>Said organization forces her to make a deal with the her in order to repay said debts and save her father, buts its her to work as a model with her name.
>She is forced to wear short clothes and make very explicit poses as model but some of her fans were watching her, so she's embarrassed and the photos of her ends bad.
>She tries to leave that job, but the leader says to her that they can kill her father and ruin her life, she is forced to accept again and said leader employed a guard and implied her to have a rougher training.
>The guard obliviously ignores her and is raped in a bus, then she was forced to go into a sexy shop, here she was tortured to become a slave and her fragile mind literally broke, netherless she provided good photos for the organization.
>The organization then spread those photos and ruined her image, and did not saved her father and let him die, after she was informed and singing while completely dead inside, she undress and tells her fan to join her.
>A large of deranged mass of said fans overwhelms her and is implied to have not survived.

A few months too late, but I've been watching Brigadoon lately. Seen 18 episodes so far, and it's getting pretty interesting. It started a bit slow, but now that the real plot has begun it's more interesting. And pretty cool music.

He has to do this for Nimoy!

Is there a guide to how you’re supposed to watch patlabor

>Movies
>OVA
>TV

Yeah but it's just: OVA -> Movie 1 -> Movie 2.

TV series and the second OVA are a different continuity. Though the second movie is meant as a send off to the whole franchise so watch the TV series before it if you have enough interest.

Why not?

Just finished Ideon. Non Gundam Tomino is pure kino with the way he just killed off 1waifu after the other. Gonna watch Dunbine next

>people die
>kino
Found the guy who's mentally stuck in his teens

Was just about to post this too.

>Non Gundam Tomino is pure kino with the way he just killed off 1waifu after the other
Have you even seen Gundam? Plenty of characters die, including "waifus"

>Tomino praiser

How's the Venus Wars movie? Saw it sale well on AmazonJP. The Blu-Ray version recently came out and it has eng subs.

Looks absolutely gorgeous but the story and characters are average at best. I recommend checking it just based on the visuals alone though.

A lot of fun, but has the usual issue of horrible pacing. A lot of older shows suffer from it

YEAH.

Creator got busted for CP

It is just the harsh reality that people die in wars, civilians and kids included.

Yes but not in such a brutal way, headshot, glass shards etc. V probably has the highest death count and they were mostly meh and deserved.

LAAAYYYYYYYYYY YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUR HAAAAAAAAAAAAAANDS ON MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Skip episodes 13-18, 22, 25-27, and everything after 62 and it's fantastic.

good shit, the manga is a bit better in pacing, the visuals and bike design in the ova are fucking goat though, the movie adds this dumb bitch for some reason too

No bully the Kikka!

;_;

Based

If you just like good visuals and general "80sness" you find it appealing. The story and characters don't stand out however so it doesn't merit too many rewatches.

Because it's an oddly stretched DVDrip. That movie has a BD so you should be watching and referencing with that.

Thanks to the Yea Forumsnon who posted this OP last thread, (you know who you are) I've been watching Ghost Sweeper Mikami over the past few days. Just 10 episodes left, there ARE more adventures with Mikami, Yokoshima, Meiko, and Emi right?

Maybe in manga. I guess you'll need to watch Phantom Quest Corp. next to get anything close to it.

RIP Hiromi Tsuru

?

Was looking up RinTaro and found some content for you all if you like looking at these "aesthetics"

God I love lum

>but is actually good like a lot of 80's OVA that have the reputation of being bad
never seen a more based and relatable opinion

i actually picked these up a couple years ago, 2 ld box sets of this anime
haven't had a chance to open them though cause my ld has been broken

there's cool devices but it's just a crappy knock off of cream lemon

It's Cool Devices, the very last episode.

The difference between the two is that while Cream Lemon has life and fantasy episodes with a lighthearted tone and with the protagonists succeding at the end, Cool Devices is the complete opposite where the tone is much darker and the female protagonists don't succeed at all, they get a crude bad ending.

Friendly reminder that Golgo 13 is pure kino.

Nothing pre2k at the moment, but the next show on my list is Yu Yu Hakusho, I keep hearing that it's really good and I oughta give it a shot

The first 10 or so episodes are pretty nice, then it turns into absolutely generic garbage until the Dark Tournament starts. From that onwards it's awesome even if the final arc isn't good compared to the others.

Oh look, someone who hasnt seen the original and like the taiwanese bootleg

>at the start, but it gets worse
FTFY

Started Yu Yu Hakusho the other day

Instead we got retard MC.
Even julius daughter would've made a better MC, but apparently macross can't into girl MC (except delta, but it has its own set of problems).

>SSS and Black Labor are bar none the worst storylines in the Patlabor franchise
This, I almost dropped the second OVA series because I was so sick of that shit already. Also, WXIII is just as bad.

I'm thinking of getting the Bubblegum Crisis bluray, never saw the show. But coming off of Dirty Pair, I crave more 80s future.

I started it not too long ago. It's decent at first, but it gets really good at episode 13.

I liked this, but the reboot was better in my opinion
at the very least, Tsutomu wasn't a whiny fag in it

Never seen this aside from lewds, does he bang her? Does she bang anyone?

no

Not currently wtching anything pre-2000 but plan to watch After War Gundam X and Vifam next.

What is this? Love the artstyle!

Delusional normalfag.
Ruroken's sequel is still getting printed.

Isn't that like one of the only Tatsunoko shows that got subs?

Anyone got that gif of Tsutomu doing the Cid Highwind stride?

What's that?

Well, now we know what happened to Akahana after the One Year War.

I tried watching Sei Shoujo Sentai Lakers EX for light hearted porno action but it wasn't to be. The body was willing, but the budget was weak.

Looks about on par with a television series.

Why was she standing with such a wide stance?

Record of Lodoss War. It's pretty good but they skip too much

Just finished Space Adventure Cobra. Didn't expect to like it so much, to be honest. The theme song was great.
