It did some things right, although other more recent ones have improved some parts where that was lacking. The worst part was the author dying before finishing it himself and not having a direct reverse isekai sequel without any timeskip.

Also what producers user, it’s those exact LN publishers who harvest from narou that decide what gets adapted into light novel form and also what gets a manga adaption. And of course last but not least what is worth adapting into an anime. Everybody else obeys.

Why am I in love with this rei clone?
Mainly this. Isekai was always present, with stuff like Escaflowne, Now and Then, El Hazard, Those Who Hunt Elves, Himiko, Twelve Kingdoms, InuYasha, Fushigi Yuugi, Rayearth. Clearly it was more shoujo dominated throughout the 90s and early 00s. ZnT was just one of the little foundations that made coypcat writers want to make more easy light novels. Then Sword Art Online hit, which is technically isekai, it hit bit, and everyone wants a piece of that no-talent action.
How could anyone not be? She's at about Louise's level too, and I wish she had just as much official art like Louise got.
I've been hoping for a ZnT remake for at least five years. It didn't deserve the adaptation it got, and its honestly better than at least half of the shit that gets adapted today.
I wouldn't mind certain changes in a new adaptation, just not the kind the original had. A dead author makes it less likely though, because there is no new content to advertise.
I'm in the middle of season 3 of ZnT. I really liked the first season because it made full use of the premise by adding all the items from Earth, but later it ceased to and now it's a bit of a slog to watch it.
End of S2 is when they started to deviate from the source. Season 3 suffered a lot from turning everything into happy go lucky land and S4 totally fucked up by changing who the endboss was.

Edits can be fine, as long as they are high enough quality and also match the style, but even those often don't look right if you look too closely. I'd like to one day work on getting good enough at at least make passable new ones using existing art as references/tracing sources, but I doubt that will ever happen. Expecting new official art is even less likely though.

Zero no Tsukaima managed to do a lot of things right, the best one being making Saito not feel ovverpowered despite his skill and not turning him into a fucking psychopath because of it.

I think that's because while it sounds very powerful at a glance, it's more narrowly focused in practice, and the author was good at showing this balance. Being an instant expert at any weapon doesn't mean you have the physical ability to wield it well or that you know good strategy and tactics for combat (1-on-1 or vs. a mob), and you can still die from being hit just as easily as before, elf magic aside.
