Not too sure about this, I think fans jump to conclusions like this because they think to themselves "Kubo wouldn't introduce human characters who don't have special powers" because they see that as a staple of the genre to have every character be "special". People made the same assumptions about Mitsuru, at most he has some Yakuza connections but nothing to do with anything on the spiritual side. Don Kanonji is literally a Don Quixote character, he plays the hero despite having very little spiritual power, he's the kind of person who'd stand up to someone like Aizen regardless of their power because he embodies an ideal. Narita did a fantastic job with him in Sprirts, imo.

That's not exactly true. You have to remember that Arrancar can't really get stronger once they remove their masks, at least not in the sense of jumping from Gillian to Adjuchas to Vasto Lorde. Based on his backstory, Ulquiorra was some sort of mutant Vasto Lorde which is why he has Segunda, it's not something that can be achieved by training like a Bankai. It's more like having a second form of Bankai, since by definition Resurrection is the "final release" for Arrancar (as it's their return to the power they sealed within their swords).

I submit that Urahara knew all along about the true nature of ichigo's zanpaktou and LIED about what was going on in that hole.

Remember, when he came out, he was wearing a weak hollow mask. And look at the wrappings of his sword.

It looks EXACTLY like the sort of gross ectoplasm shit that spirits spit out of their mouth and eyes and whatever else when they are becoming hollow.

Remember how his mask changed when he went "bankai" and he became more powerful and his happily violent(send 5 ambulances) true nature from the beginning of the series started breaking free?

That is the nature of his manifested zanpaktou. His true bankai the zanpaktou that he's wielded from the moment he awakened his own shinigami powers is not complete until he is fully hollowfied.

His hollow form during the HM arc is his 100% true bankai.
You may not like it but everything in the story leads to this.

Also, the sword in his hand when he went full quincy during his fight with aizen? That wasn't white/zanpaktou.
That was his unnamed full power quincy weapon.
It manifested like white because it had no form of it's own and took on the shape of what ichigo felt most comfortable with.

We never see what ichigo looks like when he has full control over his hollow, shinigami, quincy, full bring, and human spiritualist powers.
IMHO, he can only truly become a whole powerful being if he manifests all of those powers while in his living human body.

I'm 6'2" and about 215 lbs.
Unless she strikes/grips some area of my body that has no defense (open eyeball, exposed testicle, taut throat chop), a 5'/90lbs 15-year-old girl really couldn't do anything against me in a fight without weapons. Isshin was purely human due to the result of his binding to Kisuke's gigai, that was explicitly stated.

Kubo really only had to create a simple rule system for kido and have a few cool looking abilities they can use over and over again.

Leaving JUUUUUST enough room for the user(kubo) to pull cool and useful shit out of their ass when the plot demands it.

Rukia was close to normalizing the use of it but she never did any big cool shit with it, like trap that espada using bullshit tier kido she learned from tessai and a few magical kido tools here and there.
Hell, she was set up to be the one who would pull stuff out of her perfectly shaped peach of an ass from soul society and what she learned from tessai to handle situations.
Needed more ichigo choppy choppy and Rukia doing the kido trapping and attacking.

Also Tessai only did powerful in terms of story stuff and showed off how powerful aizen is by saying he used "raddaraddaradda" at this level without an incantation.
Them stating outright what can be done and creating a system based around kido instead of leaving it so vague would have done a lot to make things mroe interesting.

I'm not really looking to create some argument or "prove you/Kubo wrong" or something. It just boils down to, "has lots of reiatsu" in most cases, so anything they do "just works." With hundreds and hundreds of chapters, sure, we saw quite a few kido spells (more earlier on than later) and a few characters that specialized in kido, but ultimately it remained a mid-air mach-5 strike match with speed lines and explosions of who has stronger willpower due to being more motivated or angry.

I agree, I have always thought both Isshin and Rukia inhabit special gigai (where they can't recover their own reiatsu) and are as close to being "alive" as you can get, while still being dead. When they leave that gigai, it can go back to normal, Isshin simply couldn't due to his link with Ichigo and Rukia couldn't because no other gigais were available (and as soon as she did, she'd be found by Soul Society while she was hiding, so that was no good).

Being alive was probably the hardest thing to describe by Kubo in Bleachverse, and most everyone wasn't.

Bottom line is that Kubo didn't care enough about it. Sure they're family, but they barely know each other and they age differently. Kubo cared so little about the Shiba family that he didn't even bother to show us Isshin's sibling who was the father/mother of the Kaien and his siblings. All we got is that he's the uncle and that's it.

Isshin HAD to have left SS about 20 years before the story begins but Kaien could have left almost hundred years before, given how early Rukia has her status in her squad.

I mean, I'm pretty sure Ichigo knows his dad's full name is Shiba Isshin, which makes him Shiba Ichigo, and that he knows the names of Shiba Kuukaku and Shiba Ganju so he's not a moron and there's at least that. Think about it; both of them are molded by sacrifice. Both abhor the idea of those close to them dying for their sake, and will fly off the handle when they are threatened, but are otherwise cool-headed individuals.

If Ichigo met her while in Hueco Mundo, they'd either get into a clash over the minute differences in their ideals, as similar-minded characters are wont to do, or she'd be swayed over to Ichigo's side near-instantly, loyalty to Aizen notwithstanding. It'd certainly make Ichigo's decision to help free her from the clutches of the Vandereich carry more weight compared to him doing so just because Nel begged him to.

Not that the latter is a bad reason; it's a very, quintessentially Ichigo reason to do things. Still, it didn't feel like there was a lot of weight to it, especially since they never rescued Harribel in the manga proper, instead letting that MAJOR FUCKING PLOT POINT get resolved in a novel released after the manga concluded.

Unless it's clear and someone can point it out, I don't think Kaien died in the 20-year-gap after Isshin went to Karakura town and before Rukia stabbed Ichigo. I think Kaien died before that. Both Main House Lieutenant Shiba and Branch House Captain Shiba worked together for at least some decades.

I can't recall anymore. I just super remember that Rukia super respected Kaien and was distraught she had to kill him.

Kubo probably actually had plans for her, but he had to cut it short, or maybe she was suppose to marry isshin at the end, but I can't see him marrying anyone else.

Also the reason I think bleach got axed was because kubo didn't listen to editors and WSJ and they cried like little bitches and axed his series. hence why naruto got an ending and OP is still going strong, though with OP, its more like its too big to fail now. Kubo for better or worse, though we all know worse. Wanted to stick true to the story vision he had in his heart and not comprise himself with the meddling editors/WSJ so he would not have any regrets, and the audience could love it or hate it however they like, and he got axed for it. Though I guess in a funny way he did end up with regret in a sense that he could not finish his series properly. I still don't know why he didn't move to a monthly magazine or bi-weekly. Unless WSJ had all the rights for it, and would not sell it back to him. At least that's my theory on how bleach ended up the way it did.

According to the WDKALY novel, Kaien was the head of the clan around the same time Isshin was the captain of squad 10. So Isshin's brother/sister was probably the head of the clan, which makes sense once you take in his personality, then the mother/father handed over the seat to Kaien, the eldest child.

In that post, I'm only saying Harribel being important to motivate action is downplayed very hard by Kubo himself. In my opinion, I don't think it should have been; Ywach was going to destroy all of the living and spirit worlds, which includes the hollows. Since we spent nearly the entire series giving no shits about hollows beyond the fact they are "enemies except for Nel," Harribel wasn't disliked even then. For her to have a damsel spot in the final arc brings a lot of reason to the hollow involvement, since Ichigo's party (the protagonist and obviously most important perspective of the entire manga) doesn't really give a shit about her. If Harribel is going to be damseled, there should be reason involved. In the end, there was practically zero reason whatsoever for Harribel to appear at all in the manga. It took a novel to justify it. Again, in my opinion, Kubo's decision to downplay is introduced character was a poor choice and could be improved. It would also allow the other entire half of the spirit world to get involved in this quincy war. But, instead, we just watched Ichigo get another power-up and then win, timeskip, the end.

I disagree. Kubo describes shinigami ages in the hundreds, appearances not matching, and it's difficult to discern maturing or experience or growth in strength in terms of dozens or hundreds of years given Kubo's characters.

I have zero knowledge of official Kubo-approced novels or their content, I am only aware of what's appeared in the manga and some of the anime. That's fine if you'd like to try and reference a light novel with a semantic term to prove familial distinction, but I still wonder just what's going on that the Main House head has a younger sibling, Isshin, that pushes him to be a Branch House head instead of remaining as part of the Main House lineage...let alone why absolutely zero mention of such an individual would ever have been made in despite their extremely close relation to the Bleach protagonist and the amount of time spent exploring the story of said protagonist with his family in the world where said important royal would have had such major influence.

But okay, a novel implies Isshin had a sibling and they were the Shiba Main House head before that sibling gave that title to a VERY youthful Kaien in their stead.
